KENNEDY STORMS PAST FLASHES

LIBERTY, OH- In a thrilling opening match of the season, the Warren John F Kennedy High School football team clashed with the Champion Flashes in a game that showcased remarkable plays and intense competition. The game started with a burst of energy as Champion’s Carter Boggs carved his way through the defense, dashing 57 yards for an impressive touchdown with 7 minutes and 40 seconds left in the first quarter. This put Champion in the lead, 7-0. However, Kennedy quickly responded as Riley Littler displayed his kicking prowess, nailing a 32-yard field goal with 5 minutes and 30 seconds remaining in the quarter, reducing the deficit to 7-3.

Not willing to be outdone, Kennedy’s offense came alive as Freddy Bolchalk and Noah Elser executed a precise 17-yard pass for a touchdown, propelling Kennedy to a 10-7 advantage. The second quarter showcased Kennedy’s dominance as they expanded their lead. Marcus Komora’s explosive 52-yard run found the end zone, extending Kennedy’s lead to 17-7 with 8 minutes and 17 seconds left in the first half. Bolchalk and Noah Elser continued to shine, connecting with a 25-yard pass for another touchdown just over 4 minutes before halftime, giving Kennedy a commanding 24-7 lead as the teams headed to the locker rooms.

Despite both teams’ efforts, the second half remained scoreless, save for a pivotal moment in the final quarter. Kennedy’s defense made a statement early in the fourth quarter, as a high snap on a punt attempt led to a safety, further solidifying their grip on the game. When the final whistle blew, Kennedy emerged triumphant with a final score of 26-7, claiming victory in their season opener. With this win, Kennedy started the season strong at 1-0, while Champion faced an early setback, falling to 0-1. The game showcased Kennedy’s offensive prowess and defensive tenacity, setting the stage for an exciting season ahead.

NEW MIDDLETOWN, OH – The Springfield Tigers march into Week 12 of the high school football season after a commanding 42-0 victory over Matthews last week. Warren JFK is 10-1 coming into this week’s matchup after they took care of Fairport Harbor last week. The Eagles will be the home team this week, as they will get another game at the home of the Liberty Leopards.

In this week’s coaches’ corner, Springfield Head Coach Sean Guerriero spoke on last week’s big win, the grind that his team has had to endure this season, some keys to victory this week, and more!

LADY REBS STAY RED HOT IN MVAC

COLUMBIANA, OH- It’s easy to get lost in what’s accomplished during a season if ultimate goals aren’t met.  For Crestview’s Volleyball Team, Head Coach Alisha Auer expects (and oftentimes achieves) the most out of her teams.  Tuesday night’s matchup was a perfect example as the Lady Rebs set the tone early and often in a 25-14, 25-8, 25-12 sweep of Brookfield.

Oh, by the way.  That’s their 54th straight victory in the Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference.

Fifty.  Four.  Straight.

Abbey Emch led the frontline attack for Crestview with 14 kills, 2 blocks, 2 aces, and a half-dozen digs.  Grace Auer lit up the sky attack as well with 9 kills, 13 assists, 4 aces, 4 digs, and 15 points on the night.  Lainy Auer had 4 kills 10 assists, a block, a trio of aces, and 10 digs while Madalyn Black and Madison Davis each chipped in a pair of kills in the victory.

Senior Lauren Shingledecker led the Lady Warriors.

Crestview (3-0) will travel to Newton Falls on Thursday to take on the Lady Tigers.  Brookfield (4-1) comes up short for the first time this season.
