CLIPPERS SLIDE BY QUAKERS

COLUMBIANA, OH-  Brady Dixon’s sacrifice fly to right field plated Ryan Fahs as the Clippers walked off the visiting Salem Quakers here on Monday evening.  Fahs’ head first slide just beat the tag giving the Clips a 4-3 victory.  It was the second time this summer that Fahs started a game on the mound and was involved in the winning run.  His hit won the season opener for Columbiana.

Fahs gave coach Ryan Wolf four solid innings on the hill, leaving with a 3-1 lead.  That lead came via a three-run blast by Chase Franken in the first which scored Baden Pipoly and Fahs.    After that, Quaker starter Seth Seddon was outstanding in going the distance.  Seddon struck out 10 giving up just five hits while walking one.  His Quakers cut the lead to 3-1 in the second after Joey Watson singled and scored on a wild pitch.  Hits by Blaize Exline, Lane Rhodes, and Kole Edwards tied it up in the fifth.

Franken struck out the side in the seventh in relief of Trent Childers setting the stage for the offense to pull out the win.  Fahs had two hits and walk for the Clips.  Carson Dota added a base hit as well.

It was a clean game featuring just one error and two walks between the two teams on a field that was in amazingly great playing shape rewarding Coach Wolf’s efforts after battling heavy rains throughout the day.

The Clippers moved to 3-1 in the Mahoning Valley High School League and will travel to Hanoverton to face United on Thursday at 6:00.
