ASTROS COME OUT ON TOP IN PITCHER’S DUEL

STRUTHERS OH- Both pitchers in Thursday’s NABF World Series game between Astro Falcons and the Brooklyn Bonnie Jays was a straight up pitcher’s duel. The Falcons were able to come out on top 3-2.

The Falcons scored first on a wild pitch. The Bonnie Jays then answered and tied the game 1-1.  It stayed that way for a couple innings until the Falcons took a 3-1 lead. Brooklyn then made it a one run game on a wild pitch.  The score would stay that way the rest of the game, both teams would let a couple scoring opportunities fall by the wayside.

Brian Pirone threw a complete game for the Falcons and struck out 12 hitters.  He only gave up 5 hits in his outing.

AVALANCHE STEAMROLL RANGERS

STRUTHERS OH-

Jaret Boyer had all the right stuff on Thursday for Avalanche, allowing zero runs and besting Lakewood Rangers by a score of 16-0 on day one of the NABF World Series.

Derek Franken collected four hits in four at bats to help lead Avalanche to victory. Franken singled in the first, singled in the second, doubled in the fourth, and singled in the fourth.

In the first inning, Avalanche got their offense started. They scored on a stolen base during Isaac Criss’s at bat. Then Criss doubled , driving in one.

Avalanche notched 12 runs in the fourth inning. The big inning was thanks to singles by Logan Ayres, Cam Caldararo, Griff Richardson, and Mason Jones, doubles by Franken, Jones, and Criss, and a groundout by Richardson.

One bright spot for Lakewood Rangers was a single in the fourth inning.

Boyer was the winning pitcher for Avalanche. The pitcher lasted four innings, allowing one hit and zero runs while striking out seven and walking one.

Will Hyatt took the loss for Lakewood Rangers. The pitcher went four innings, allowing 16 runs on 16 hits and striking out one.

Avalanche collected 16 hits on the day. Franken, Jones, Ayres, and Criss all had multiple hits. Franken led with four hits in four at bats.

FALCONS SET THE TONE IN DAY ONE

STRUTHERS OH- The Astro Falcons began day 1 of the NABF World Series with a dominating 9-2 victory over Troy American Legion. The Falcons set the tone early with 7 runs by the end of the 2nd inning.

Seth Cervello had a massive day at the plate going 2-4 with 2 runs scored and 3 RBI.  Bo Fornataro went 2-3 with a run scored and a pair of RBI.  Jaden Rishel also came through with multiple hits going 2-4 with a RBI.

Jay Campbell pitched 3 shutout innings for the Falcons. He struck out 2 and walked 1 while giving up 0 hits in his 3 innings of work.

 

ATHLETIX SCORE LATE TO SECURE VICTORY

STRUTHERS OH-

Athletix ran off with the lead late in the game in an 8-5 victory over Troy Post 43 Legends to get their NABF World Series started on Thursday. The game was tied at five with Athletix batting in the top of the fifth when Nate Fleming grounded out, scoring one run.

Athletix earned the victory despite allowing Troy Post 43 Legends to score three runs in the first inning. Their big inning was driven by doubles by Carver and Martin and a single by Miller.

Troy Post 43 Legends opened up scoring in the first inning. Carver doubled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run.

Athletix evened things up at five in the top of the fourth inning when Cam Hollobaugh grounded out, scoring one run.

Athletix notched three runs in the fourth inning. Their big inning was driven by a single by Ethan Shaw and a groundout by Hollobaugh.

Timmy Lewis was on the mound for Athletix. Lewis allowed eight hits and five runs over seven innings, striking out four.

Polen was on the pitcher’s mound for Troy Post 43 Legends. The bulldog lasted two and a third innings, allowing two hits and two runs. Baileys, Barber, and Lemaster each contributed in relief.

Matt Lockwich, Shaw, Brady Hanson, Hollobaugh, and Ty Ventresco each managed one hit to lead Athletix.

Baileys led Troy Post 43 Legends with two hits in four at bats.

CREEKSIDE STARTS ON THE RIGHT FOOT

STRUTHERS OH-

It came down to the last play, but the Ohio Longhorns were on the wrong end of a 7-6 defeat to Creekside Fitness on Thursday to open the 16U NABF World Series. The game was tied at six with Creekside batting in the bottom of the seventh when Keith Smith’s sac fly scored one run.

Ohio Longhorns trailed by four runs in the second inning, but then fought back to lower the final margin. They tallied five runs in the failed comeback. Nick Herbele, Alex Parker, Dominic King, and Trevor Vojtkofsky came through with RBIs to lead the rally.

Creekside Fitness opened up scoring in the first inning, when Danny Flynn singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run.

Ohio Longhorns evened things up at six in the top of the sixth inning when Vojtkofsky doubled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run.

Ohio Longhorns notched three runs in the third inning. The offensive onslaught was led by Herbele and Parker, all driving in runs in the frame.

Creekside scored three runs in the second inning. The big inning came thanks in part to a fielder’s choice by Flynn.

Noah Newman took the loss for Ohio Longhorns. The pitcher went two and two-thirds innings, allowing five runs on four hits and striking out four.

Nick Magnifico started the game for Creekside Fitness. The fireballer allowed six hits and four runs over two and two-thirds innings, striking out three

Ohio Longhorns tallied one home run on the day. Parker had a four bagger in the second inning.

Ohio Longhorns tallied nine hits in the game. Reed Sackett, Vojtkofsky, and Parker all managed multiple hits. Parker, Vojtkofsky, and Sackett each collected two hits to lead.

Devin Gruver went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Creekside in hits.

DURA OPENS NABF WITH DOMINATING WIN

STRUTHERS OH-

Ohio Pitbulls Baseball couldn’t keep up with DuraEdge and fell 7-1 on Thursday to open pool play in the NABF World Series.

DuraEdge scored four runs in the fourth inning. DuraEdge scored its runs on a triple.

Jake Corll was credited with the victory for DuraEdge. The hurler surrendered one run on four hits over three innings, striking out two and walking zero.

Alex Trivonovich took the loss for Ohio Pitbulls Baseball. Trivonovich allowed six hits and seven runs over three and a third innings, striking out two.

Shane Callahan went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Ohio Pitbulls Baseball in hits.

DuraEdge tallied nine hits on the day. Zack Leonard  managed multiple hits. DuraEdge didn’t commit a single error in the field. Hanley had six chances in the field, the most on the team.
