CANFIELD OH- To be a top level basketball team, you gotta have a good point guard. You might see a team win a couple games, or go on a run without a true point guard, but you’ll never see consistent success without it. The point guard holds the ball more than anyone.  They get everyone where they need to be.  The best point guards are also an extra coach on the floor, which means they have to be coachable themselves.  South Range has found a real one, and they wouldn’t have turned their season around the way they did without him.  Nate Lewis runs the show for South Range.

Lewis is the picture of a great point guard. He has the ability to score whoever he wants, he can definitely create his own shot if he has to.  But Nate sacrifices good shots for great shots.  You could make a real argument that Lewis sacrifices about 6 points per game purely getting his teammates better shots. That selflessness is not common at this level of basketball.  Everyone is trying to make a name for themselves, and present themselves to coaches.  Lewis however understands that when coaches are looking at point guards, they like to see them pass up a good shot for a teammates great shot.  He sees the bigger picture.  Because of that South Range has a balanced offense, that always seems to find ways to win down the stretch.

Lewis took the time to do an interview with YSN’s Anthony Hartwig to talk about this roller coaster season in South Range.  They talk about the key to this big turnaround, how close the team has gotten this season, and so much more.  Check out the latest South Range basketball Player Profile only on YSN.
