POLAND GIRLS BASKETBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 3) WITH NICK BLANCH

POLAND OH- We are gliding down the final stretch of the basketball season, and here’s a news flash, Poland is right in the thick of relevancy on the girls side.  After tons of questions on what the Bulldogs would look like without the players they graduated a year ago, Poland is still sitting on top of the NE8.  It hasn’t been without adversity though. As head coach Nick Blanch says in this interview, it’s a long basketball season.  If anyone thinks they are going to get through it without some dips, they are going to be shocked.  Poland saw Girard give them their first conference loss of the season, and just their third conference loss as a member of the NE8.  The Bulldogs didn’t sulk in despair however, they got right back on the horse and started winning again.

Coach Blanch took the time to check in with us ahead of a big week of conference games. He talks with Anthony Hartwig about bouncing back from the loss, the process of tournament voting during the season, and much more.  Check out Episode 3 of Coach’s Corner with Nick Blanch only on YSN.

POLAND GIRLS BASKETBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 2) WITH NICK BLANCH

POLAND OH- A couple weeks have gone by and Poland has started yet another season on the basketball court with high hopes.  They started the season 4-0 with an impressive non conference slate, and then a NE8 opening win against Girard.  The undefeated Bulldogs then would put their skills to the test by welcoming in fellow undefeated Salem.  The Quakers got the better of the Bulldogs in Poland and gave them their first loss.  Head coach Nick Blanch thinks they can learn from both the wins, and the loss as they truck forward into their season. The Bulldogs have a week full of road conference games with Niles on Monday, and South Range on Thursday.

Coach Blanch took the time to talk with YSN’s Anthony Hartwig to talk about the start to their season. They discuss what he’s been able to learn about his team in the first few weeks of the season, preview the tough week ahead, and much more. Check out Episode 2 of Coach’s Corner with Nick Blanch.

POLAND GIRLS BASKETBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 1) WITH NICK BLANCH

POLAND OH- Poland is coming off another impressive season in girls basketball. The Bulldogs went 19-5 (13-1) and grabbed the NE8 crown outright.  The Bulldogs lost in the district semifinals to West Branch who went on to win the district.  The Bulldogs open the season at home on November 28th against Fitch.

Head Coach Nick Blanch returns for his 13th season. Having more than 200 wins, coach Blanch is one of the most successful the area has to offer. He took the time to help us preview the season by sitting with YSN’s Ty Bartell.  They talk about the returning roster, what the Bulldogs schedule looks like this season, and much more. POLAND OH- Things are going to look pretty different this year at Poland girls basketball games. The ever prolific Jackie Grisdale, as well as Ella Harrell and Liz Herdman are gone from graduation. One thing that will never change though, is the united mentality that the Bulldogs will play with. This year is one where you’ll see that family atmosphere shine through more than ever before, and coach Nick Blanch couldn’t be prouder of the culture his team has created.

SOUTH RANGE GIRLS BASKETBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 8) WITH JEFF FISHEL

CANFIELD OH- We are one step closer to the girls basketball state tournament. Four YSN teams are still alive on their run to Dayton. South Range, Poland, Western Reserve, and McDonald. South Range is making their second straight trip to Cuyahoga Falls, and their third in four seasons.

The Raiders won their district championship 41-20 over Brookfield. Last season, the Raiders won the regional semifinal against Champion, and lost the regional final game to Elyria Catholic. South Range will look to take the next step this season, as they take on Warrensville Heights on Tuesday night at 6:15.

Poland is making their second trip to regionals in the last three seasons. They won their district championship game 40-38 over Marlington. In their last rip to regionals, Poland won their regional semifinal game against Akron Buchtel, and lost the regional final to Akron St Vincent St Mary. They will try to take the next step this season, as they match up with Perry in the regional semifinal Tuesday night at 8:15.

POLAND GIRLS BASKETBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 8) WITH NICK BLANCH

POLAND OH- DO YOU BELIEVE IT?!?! Poland snatched victory right out of the jaws of defeat on Wednesday in the district semifinals against West Geauga. Coach Nick Blanch isn’t naïve about the fact that luck was definitely on the Bulldogs side. However, he was proud of his team’s effort and ability to never stop fighting. It all worked out for a win, and now Poland moves on to play Marlington in the district championship on Saturday at 7:00​.

POLAND GIRLS BASKETBALL COACH (EP 7) WITH NICK BLANCH

POLAND OH- It is officially tournament time in Poland for the girls basketball program. The Lady Bulldogs finished the regular season by falling to South Range in the team’s second matchup of the year. Splitting with the Raiders secured that both teams would share the top spot in the NE8. It snapped Poland’s 40 game winning streak inside the NE8. Poland then moved on to tournaments where they won their opening game against Jefferson 53-35. Poland will now play West Geauga in the district semifinals on Wednesday.

POLAND GIRLS BASKETBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 6) WITH NICK BLANCH

POLAND OH- It is a busy final week for the Poland program as they look to take momentum into the tournament. They had four games scheduled for the week, however the game against Hubbard had to be canceled. The Bulldogs did pick up wins against Girard and Struthers. Both games saw milestones be reached. Against Girard, Jackie Grisdale broke the single game three point record. Grisdale broke her mom’s record of seven. Then in the win against Struthers, Coach Blanch earned his 200th career victory. The Bulldogs are also scheduled to travel to South Range on Saturday for a rematch with the Raiders.

Coach Blanch had another surprise guest, or should i say guests in this week’s Coach’s Corner. His four captains Ella Harrell, Liz Herdman, Morgan Kluchar, and Jackie Grisdale join the fun. They all discuss some of their favorite moments of the season, finding a team identity, and much more. You will not want to miss this special edition of Coach’s Corner with Nick Blanch.

POLAND GIRLS BASKETBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 5) WITH NICK BLANCH

POLAND OH- It has been another successful week for Poland as they continue their long win streak. The Bulldogs have won 14 in a row and sit at 14-1 heading in to the week. Poland’s last win was a 67-26 win over Hubbard. This week Poland has a late add of Liberty on Wednesday, and a huge matchup with South Range on Thursday.

Speaking of South Range, the Raiders head coach Jeff Fishel crashed the party this week and became a special guest. These two coaches have formed a strong friendship over the last two seasons and the mutual respect they have for one another is displayed in this week’s episode as both coaches preview Thursday’s clash.

POLAND GIRLS BASKETBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 3) WITH NICK BLANCH

POLAND OH- The Lady Bulldogs continue to impress this season. After losing their first game of the season to Salem, Poland has won ten in a row and hold a record of 11-1. They have also extended their dominant record inside the NE8 over the last three seasons to 33-0. Poland is coming off a 53-36 win over Boardman on Saturday, and looks ahead to a game against Jefferson on Thursday.

Head coach Nick Blanch took the time to catch up with YSN’s Anthony Hartwig this week to talk about his program. They discuss the league being back to full force, his coaching staff, and much more.
