CREEKSIDE STARTS ON THE RIGHT FOOT

It came down to the last play, but the Ohio Longhorns were on the wrong end of a 7-6 defeat to Creekside Fitness on Thursday to open the 16U NABF World Series. The game was tied at six with Creekside batting in the bottom of the seventh when Keith Smith’s sac fly scored one run.

Ohio Longhorns trailed by four runs in the second inning, but then fought back to lower the final margin. They tallied five runs in the failed comeback. Nick Herbele, Alex Parker, Dominic King, and Trevor Vojtkofsky came through with RBIs to lead the rally.

Creekside Fitness opened up scoring in the first inning, when Danny Flynn singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run.

Ohio Longhorns evened things up at six in the top of the sixth inning when Vojtkofsky doubled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run.

Ohio Longhorns notched three runs in the third inning. The offensive onslaught was led by Herbele and Parker, all driving in runs in the frame.

Creekside scored three runs in the second inning. The big inning came thanks in part to a fielder’s choice by Flynn.

Noah Newman took the loss for Ohio Longhorns. The pitcher went two and two-thirds innings, allowing five runs on four hits and striking out four.

Nick Magnifico started the game for Creekside Fitness. The fireballer allowed six hits and four runs over two and two-thirds innings, striking out three

Ohio Longhorns tallied one home run on the day. Parker had a four bagger in the second inning.

Ohio Longhorns tallied nine hits in the game. Reed Sackett, Vojtkofsky, and Parker all managed multiple hits. Parker, Vojtkofsky, and Sackett each collected two hits to lead.

Devin Gruver went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Creekside in hits.

NABF SOPHOMORE: HAVRILLA HAS BIG DAY, HELPS LEAD ASTRO FALCONS TO NABF TITLE GAME

STRUTHERS, OH- The Astro Falcons scored early and often as they cruised to a 15-6 victory over the Ohio Longhorns to secure a spot in the NABF 14u World Series semi-finals.  Jim Campbell picked up the win for Astro, allowing six runs (four earned) on seven hits in five innings of work while striking out six and walking three.

Jeremy Moore took the loss for the Longhorns, surrendering five runs in just three innings of work.

AJ Havrilla helped lead the way for Astro with two hits, two runs and two RBI in the game.  Dom Fornataro had two hits, two RBI and a run scored in the game while Luca Ricchiuti hit an RBI double and scored five times in the game.  Anthony Miller added a hit and four RBI to the winning cause.

Anthony Warner hit an RBI double and scored a run in the game for the Longhorns.

In the afternoon game, the Astro Falcons rolled past a familiar foe in Eagle Wear 16-1 to advance to the NABF 14U World Series Sunday morning.  Anthony Miller picked up the win for Astro, allowing just one run on four hits in five strong innings while striking out seven and walking four.

Jordan McCartney got saddled with the loss for Eagle Wear, yielding five runs in just 2 2/3 innings of work.

AJ Havrilla again led the Astro assault with three hits, including a pair of doubles, four runs scored and an RBI.  Brock Lowry also had three hits, four runs scored and an RBI in the game.  Gino Lazzari slugged a pair of hits, scored a run and drove in four more.  Dom Fornatano had two hits, three RBI and a run scored while Miller helped himself out with a triple and four runs scored in the victory.

Nick Leasure had two hits and scored the only run of the game for Eagle Wear.
