MAUST CREATES CHEMISTRY FOR RAIDERS

Wise men always say “Silence is Golden.”  In South Range, the Raiders most silent leader has added shades of burgundy to those remarks.

South Range Senior Christian Maust may not be a guy who cranks up his teammates with words, but his actions on the field are enough to write a book.  Maust’s outstanding play continues to open up paths for the Raider runners on the field and has contributed to the nearly 1000 yards on the ground the Raiders have racked up through 6 games.

All that aside, when you talk to Christian, he’s one of the most humble individuals you’ll come across, and that’s due to his family and his role models from which he draws his inspiration.

We had a chance to sit down with Christian in this week’s South Range Player Profile-MAUST CREATES CHEMISTRY FOR RAIDERS

EAST PALESTINE COACH’S CORNER WITH TONY FOSTER (EP 5)

East Palestine was the hard-luck loser in last week’s match-up with Southern, and look to bounce back on Homecoming against EOAC Rival-Leetonia.  It’s been quite the roller coaster thus far this season for Coach Foster and the Dogs.  Hope is still lingering though in East Palestine, with hopes that the Bulldogs can win out and make their case for Week 11.

This week we sit down with Coach and discuss the difficulties to keep focus, as well as how flag football and other versions of football may effect the varsity game in the years to come.

Sit back, and enjoy Episode 5 of East Palestine Coach’s Corner with Tony Foster.

WHAT CAN BROWN DO FOR YOU?

A Student-Athlete’s senior year can be very defining for them if they allow it to be.  For East Palestine’s Noah Brown, he’s used the last 3 years as a springboard for his grand finale as a Bulldog.  Brown serves as one of the big run-stoppers on the Bulldog defense, and continues to be one of the top leaders for the brown and white.

Noah also serves as the Captain of the wrestling team, and has leaned on his experiences on the mat to take the steps necessary to help make splash plays in the 2018 campaign.

What’s Noah’s favorite food?  His biggest influence?  His favorite superhero?

Find out all that and more as our Dan Figley sits down with Noah for this week’s East Palestine Player Profile: WHAT CAN BROWN DO FOR YOU?

CARDINAL MOONEY COACH’S CORNER WITH PJ FECKO (EP 6)

If you’ve ever been inside the gymnasium at Cardinal Mooney, it serves as a constant reminder of rich winning tradition everywhere you look.  Quite literally, the walls are blanketed in championship banners from pillar to post.

The 2018 Cardinals have been tasked with adding to those walls under one of the toughest schedules in the state of Ohio.  They have yet to blink.  Sure- they want to win, but humble warriors in defeat are the most dangerous of all.

Head Coach PJ Fecko sits down with our Steve Leslie to discuss the opportunities ahead for the Cards in this week’s Cardinal Mooney Coach’s Corner!

HEART’S ON FIRE!

What’s in a name?  Well, for Cardinal Mooney Senior Anthony Fire- a lot.

Fire’s name is listed next to #81 in your football program.

Fire’s name is synonymous with Cardinal Mooney Athletics.

Fire’s name is on the mind of every opposing coach on Friday night.

Most of all, though, Fire’s name is one that everybody in the Valley should take note of because he’s doing big things.

Anthony Fire is one of the top tight ends, and defensive ends in the area, and continues to prove it every down.  The Cardinals will strap up for Louisville this Friday, and Fire will once again be helping the Cards fly high toward Week 11.

YSN General Manager, Steve Leslie sat down with Fire to discuss his rich heritage at Mooney, as well as what this season means to him.  This week’s Cardinal Mooney Player Profile is Anthony Fire- HEART’S ON FIRE!

URSULINE COACH’S CORNER WITH LARRY KEMPE (EP 6)

Progression is the name of the game right now for our Irish!  It was so obvious last Friday that the Ursuline Irish are turning the corner.  They brought the battle right to the front door of the Louisville Leopards and came up just short of their first victory.

The Irish have grown leaps and bounds over the last 6 weeks and now prepare for their first home game of the season.  NOTHING gets the team over the top like a little home cooking!

How does Coach motivate the team going into the backstretch?  What can be learned from last week, and pushed toward Bishop Watterson this week?

BEAVER LOCAL FOOTBALL COACH’S CORNER WITH MIKE MCKENZIE (EP 4)

After a very tough loss to undefeated Bellaire in Week 6, Coach McKenzie didn’t waste time turning the page toward his Week 7 opponent, Buckeye Local.

This week there proves to be much on the line and serves as a measuring stick for the rest of the year so to speak.  With a win this week- The Beavers can get things back on track, and gain some swagger going into their final home game next week.  A win this week shows that they can the ability to bounce back from adversity and to stay focused on what’s ahead.

YSN’s Michael McKenzie caught up with Coach Mac for this Week’s Beaver Local Coach’s Corner (EP 4)

RIGHT ON CUE

Sometimes it’s tough being the coach’s kid.   There’s a certain expectation that you must carry every practice, every down, every game.  However, for Crestview’s Gabe Cusick, he’s made a football career for himself under the radar.  In fact, there were times growing up he didn’t necessarily even want to play football.  However, there came a day where Gabe saw the benefits that his friends had by being part of something bigger than themselves, and what it meant to be Rebel.  What a great opportunity it was to play with his teammates, and for his father.

This year, Gabe is the Captain of the Rebel defense, and is the leading tackler through 6 weeks!  The Rebs (and dad) needed somebody to come in and make an impact in a hurry, and luckily for Crestview-they didn’t have to look far!

DETERMINATION IS RECIPE FOR COOK

After another obstacle faced last Friday against Southern Local, East Palestine finds themselves in unfamiliar territory.  One that has them in playoff mentality in week 7.

However, the good news for the Bulldogs is they continue to gain health along the way.  Especially in one of their key players, Colton Cook!

Cook suffered a broken collarbone earlier this year in a passing scrimmage that has held him out half the year, but Cook’s determination to get healthy, and get back on the field shows exactly the mentality the Dogs must have going into the final month of the regular season: one day at a time.

Our Tim Figley caught up with Colton Cook following practice, and gets inside the huddle for this week’s East Palestine Player Profile: DETERMINATION IS RECIPE FOR COOK
