1000 POINT PARTY IN SOUTH RANGE AS RAIDERS COOL OFF GIRARD

It was a busy night in South Range for the Lady Raiders’ regular season home finale. It was pack the gym night, it was senior night for Emily Irons, and Izzy Lamparty was set up to reach 1000 career points. The Raiders capped off the night with a dominating win over Girard 53-31.

Girard has come into the night winners of 7 of the last 8 games. In the first quarter it seemed like it was going to be a tight game as the Raiders only led by 3 9-6. However, once the scoreboard switched to the second quarter, the Raiders switched on their offense. They outscored the Indians 17-8 in the second to lead 26-14 at the break. Their domination would continue through the second half as the closest Girard would get for the rest of the night was 13. This was a much different story than the first matchup in which the Raiders struggled through a 47-40 win.

Izzy Lamparty got her 1000th point about half way through the first quarter off an offensive rebound and put back. It was her only bucket from the floor in the first half. A great second half would help her finish with 17. Izzy is the eighth player in the South Range program to reach 1000 points. The last player to do so was Madison Durkin in 2017.

Lexi Giles led the Raiders with 21 points.

Girard was led by Sieasia Triplett with 12.

South Range travels to Mooney on Wednesday. Girard will host Lakeview on Thursday.

FRYER GETS 1,000 RAIDERS GET THE WIN

It was a night where two players had eyes on reaching the thousand point milestone. Nae Fryer needed just 10 points coming into the night, Izzy Lamparty was right behind her needing 18. Fryer got her 1,000th point less than 15 seconds out of halftime. That was the only positive in the second half for the Dragons as the Raiders ran away to a 55-29 win.

Niles played a very competitive first half. Their offense was balanced as Fryer scored eight, and the rest of the team matched it with eight more. The Dragons defense also locked down on the Raiders, holding them to just 17 points in the first two frames. The Dragons trailed 17-16 at the break.

Out of the break the Dragons immediately ran a play to get Nae Fryer some space. She wasted no time hitting a midrange jumper to eclipse 1000 points. The Dragon Den erupted and the game was stopped to celebrate the career milestone. After things calmed back down the Raiders took control of the game. They shutout Fryers teammates in the second half. Her thirteen second half points were all the Dragons got. Izzy Lamparty made a mad dash at her own milestone in the second half. Held to five points at half, Lamparty caught fire in the late stages of the third. Half way through the final frame, Izzy hit a bucket giving her 17 points, just one point away. With the game well in hand however, Coach Fishel decided to take Izzy out. A decision that could have also had to do with the Raiders next game being a home game.

Leading the Raiders offensively was Izzy Lamparty with 17 points and 7 rebounds. Lexi Giles was also in double figures with 13.

Nae Fryer finished with a game high 21.

The Raiders move on to host Girard on Monday.

Niles will welcome in Struthers on Monday.

POLAND ALL OVER LAKEVIEW

Poland continued their NE8 dominance on Monday night with a 59-16 win over Lakeview.

Despite the margin of victory, it was not a flashy offensive performance from Poland. It took them several minutes to get their first points from the field. The Bulldogs led Lakeview 7-4 in the first quarter, and through the next two frames, they went on a 25-0 run to be up 32-4. Lakeview did put together a positive fourth quarter to get themselves in double figures. Lakeview actually did stay away from a ton of live-ball turnovers caused by Poland’s pressure. They moved the ball well, but just couldn’t get shots to fall. Poland got a lot of solid minutes from their reserves towards the closing of the game. The Bulldogs had 12 different players score for them.

Leading the offense tonight for Poland was Morgan Kluchar and Connie Cougras who both finished with 8. Kailyn Brown and Katie Masucci had 7 apiece.

Poland continues to play on Thursday as they host Jefferson.
