POTTERS POUND MARTINS FERRY, ADVANCE TO OVAC TITLE

EAST LIVERPOOL- The East Liverpool Potters advances to the OVAC Championship game with a dominating 80-41 win over Martins Ferry on Tuesday night.

The Potters were helped by a tremendous effort from Tresean Jackson who scored 31 points. Jackson’s contributions didn’t end there as he did a masterful job distributing the ball finishing with 8 assists on the night. Brennan O’Hara was also in double figures with 15 points.

The Potters defense was nothing to forget either. They held the Raiders to just 11 first half points with suffocating pressure.

The Potters now look to avenge an earlier loss to Meadowbrook in the OVAC championship on Friday night.

POLAND SEND TIGERS PACKING IN HOME FINALE

POLAND OH- The Poland Lady Bulldogs Player their final regular season home game Monday night, and they didn’t disappoint their fans. They dominated a good Howland team 59-28.

It was all Poland from the tip as their defense dominated the Tigers. They held Howland to just 8 first half points. A huge part to the Bulldogs success was their gritty rebounding. Howland has the clear height advantage. Five girls on Howland’s roster were taller than Poland’s tallest. None of that mattered though as the Bulldogs put rebounded Howland by a ton. Howland could never get easy buckets off of offensive rebounds.

The third quarter was probably the Bulldogs best on offense. They nearly doubled their halftime total. Kailyn Brown was a big reason as she started to hit a stride out of the gates in the second half. She scored 11 of her 19 in the third.

Jackie Grisdale led the Bulldogs in scoring with 20, Brown finished with 19.

Poland plays their regular season finale Thursday night as they travel to Canfield. The Cardinals best Poland 46-42 in December.

FALCONS GET IT DONE VS EAST

AUSTINTOWN OH- The Falcons defeated Youngstown East in a high scoring affair on Saturday 72-66. The Falcons held a 6 point lead at the half and a 4 point lead after 3 quarters. The 4th quarter saw the Falcons and East exchange baskets throughout with the Falcons hitting some timely free-throws down the stretch.

Leading the way for the Falcons was Todd Simons with 22 points, Devin Chaney with 17, Kris Brown with 15, and Devin Sherwood and Nate Leskovac with 8 pts. The Falcons travel to Hudson on Tuesday to take on the Explorers. The game time for that game is 6:00 J.V. 7:30 Varsity.

GIRARD RUNS PAST BULLDOGS

GIRARD, OH- It was a good night in Girard for Senior Night. The three Girard seniors Lindsay Cave, Isabella Minotti and Rachel Sobnosky got to a win to close out their home schedule. Girard won 51-42 over Lakeview. Leading Girard in scoring was Sieasia Triolett with 17 points. Sophie Griffith added 10 points and 9 rebounds. Lindsay Cave scored 6 points. Emily Fitzgerald and Marissa Cave each added 5 points. Jalaya Brown scored 4 points and 5 steals. Isabella Minotti and Madison Logue each scored 2 points. Helping with the senior night win without scoring were Rachel Sobnosky, Sehan Dede, Emily Drennen, Abby Rafferty, Allison Durkin and Esra Dede.

WILDCATS CLAW EAGLES

STRUTHERS OH- Struthers got a big win Thursday night in their last home NE8 game of the season over Hubbard 66-29. Emma Elia paced the Wildcats with a game-High 23 points, including 11 in the first frame. Hubbard was led by Jackie Adler with 12.

Struthers improves to 11-8 (9-5) while Hubbard drops to 3-18 (1-13)

Struthers returns to action Saturday hosting New Philadelphia.

Hubbard returns to action Wednesday as they host Mineral Ridge

BEARS LOOK SMOOTH AGAINST WELLSVILLE

LEETONIA OH- Leetonia used two big quarters in the middle of the game to run past Wellsville 55-41. The Bears outscored the Tigers 30-11 in the second and third quarters.

Anna Buffone led the Bears with a game-high 17 points. Tarah Ferry was also in double figures with 14.

Leetonia improves to 10-8 and moves on to host Lowellville on Monday.

Wellsville will host Oak Glen in their regular season finale on Thursday.

POLAND CLAIMS NE8 TITLE ON SENIOR NIGHT

POLAND OH- Four seniors wee recognized before the game at Poland on Thursday night. Brooke Bobbey, Kailyn Brown, Sarah Bushaw, and Katie Masucci all took in their moment of honor as the program thanked them for their many years of service. The Bulldogs sent the seniors out with a bang, grabbing a 52-21 win over Niles and securing their second straight NE8 Championship.

All four seniors were in the starting lineup on Thursday, and they definitely started fast. Poland scored 20 points in the first quarter, 17 of which came from their four seniors. Kailyn Brown lead the way with 7.

With that first frame as a standard, the offense slowed down in the middle of the game. Only scoring 16 points in the next two quarters. However, in the fourth quarter when Coach Blanch put all four seniors on the floor again the Bulldogs doubled that and added another 16 to their total. It was truly a night of senior dominance. Each senior was individually subbed out in the final quarter and given a wonderful ovation. In a even more special moment, Katie Masucci was subbed out by her sister Hannah who got to be the first person to hug her coming off the floor.

Poland win completes a two season 28-0 record in the NE8. It’s been all Bulldogs since the leagues birth last season.

Jackie Grisdale led the way offensively with 17 points. Katie Masucci was also in double figures with 10. 30 of the final 52 points for Poland were scored by seniors.

Nae Fryer led Niles with 14 points.

Poland looks ahead to their home finale against Howland on Monday.

COWBOYS TRIPPED UP IN OT BY SPIRE

GENEVA OH- The Chaney Cowboys made the long trip to Geneva Tuesday night for a big match up with the SPIRE institute. Chaney used a big defensive second quarter, holding SPIRE to two points and leading 22-19 at the half. SPIRE would eventually come back and beat the Cowboys in an overtime thriller 61-54.

Cameron Lawrence and Travis Easterly both led the Cowboys offensively with 13 points each.

The Cowboys return to action Friday as they host Cardinal Mooney.

BIG SECOND HALF LIFTS FALCONS OVER HUBBARD

HUBBARD OH- The Jefferson Falcons went to Hubbard and scored 41 points in the second half to propel them to a 64-49 win over Hubbard.

Bobby Ray led the Falcons withva game-High 22 points.

Ryan Laird led the Eagles with 15 points, Cam Resatar was also in double figures and added 13 points.

Hubbard falls to 4-12 on the year. They will look to bounce back Friday as they host Lakeview.

Jefferson will host Poland on Friday.

POLAND EXTENDS WIN STREAK SMOTHERS EAGLES

HUBBARD OH- Poland kept their eleven game winning streak going on Monday night with a 60-20 win over Hubbard.

It was another balanced night for Poland’s offense as they had eleven different players score. Jackie Grisdale led the Bulldogs with 19 points. Katie McDonald picked up a career high 8 points, Morgan Kluchar also finished with 8.

The win is the Bulldog’s 27th straight inside the NE8. Poland will look to complete their second straight season sweep of the league on Thursday as they host Niles. With no JV game on Thursday, Poland’s senior parent night will start at 6:30, and tip off for the game will be at 7:00.
