YOUNGSTOWN REIGNS AGAIN AS WORLD CHAMPIONS

LOREDO TX- After a couple of one run games in a row, Youngstown easily dispatched Monterrey, Mexico on Tuesday at Uni-Trade Stadium, 10-4 to secure a Palomino World Series Championship.

Youngstown got on the board in the top of the first inning after Monterrey committed an error, and Owen Henne singled, each scoring one run.

Monterrey captured the lead, 4-2, in the bottom of the first after Gael Zenni doubled, and Juan Quintnilla singled, each scoring two runs.

Youngstown took the lead in the top of the fourth inning after Austin Lafferty scored after tagging up, and Jack Lutte stole home, each scoring one run.

Youngstown scored five runs on six hits in the top of the seventh inning. Henne singled, scoring one run, Gino Lazzari singled, scoring one run, Andrew Capizzi singled, scoring one run, Lafferty doubled, scoring one run, and AJ Havrilla singled, scoring one run.

Ryan Apaliski stepped on the hill first for Youngstown. They allowed five hits and four runs over seven innings, striking out four and walking eight. Evon Lozano led things off on the bump for Monterrey. The starting pitcher surrendered one hit and two runs (zero earned) over two-thirds of an inning, striking out one and walking two.

Youngstown piled up 12 hits in the game. Havrilla and Henne each collected three hits to lead the way. Havrilla went 3-for-5 at the plate as the infielder led the team with two runs batted in. Antonio Cordeiro and Lafferty also collected multiple hits for Youngstown. Ben Slanker paced Youngstown with three walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, accumulating seven walks for the game. Lafferty and Lutte each stole multiple bases. Youngstown was sure-handed in the field and didn’t commit a single error. Lutte had the most chances in the field with seven.

 

A LATE NIGHT WALK OFF PUTS YOUNGSTOWN IN THE CHAMPIONSHIP

LOREDO TX- It came down to the wire on Sunday night at Uni-Trade Stadium, as Youngstowm grabbed the victory in walk-off fashion, 4-3, over Laredo. Youngstown were down 3-1 in the bottom of the seventh inning when Jack Lutte tripled, scoring three runs.

Youngstown were the first to get on the board in the third when AJ Havrilla singled, scoring one run.

In the top of the seventh inning, Laredo went back into the lead after Brytton Clements singled, Jesed Garza hit into a fielder’s choice, and Ciro Benavides singled, each scoring one run.

Colin Casteel stepped on the bump first for Youngstown. The starting pitcher surrendered one hit and zero runs over five and one-third innings, striking out four and walking four. Billy Winans stepped on the bump first for Laredo. The starting pitcher gave up six hits and two runs over six and one-third innings, striking out four and walking three. Jacob McGuire appeared in relief for Youngstown.

Austin Lufferty and Owen Henne each collected two hits for Youngstown. Lutte provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led Youngstown with three runs batted in. The first baseman went 1-for-4 on the day. Youngstown turned one double play in the game. Youngstown was also sure-handed and didn’t commit a single error. Lutte made the most plays with nine.

 

OFFENSE THRIVES IN YOUNGSTOWN’S FIRST WIN IN TEXAS

LORADO TX- Antonio Cordeiro drove in five runs on three hits to lead Youngstown past Palmview, Texas 21-12 on Friday at Uni-Trade Stadium. Cordeiro tripled in the sixth scoring two, singled in the fourth scoring one, and singled in the seventh scoring one.

Bats blistered as Youngstown collected 17 hits and Palmview, tallied nine in the high-scoring game.

Youngstown got on the board in the top of the first inning after Ben Slanker walked, Aj Havrilla scored after tagging up, and Owen Henne singled, each scoring one run.

Palmview tied the game in the bottom of the first thanks to a double by Antonio Villarellal, a double by Jacob Torres, and a double play.

Youngstown took the lead in the top of the third. Slanker doubled, scoring two runs, to give them the leg up, 5-3.

Palmview flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the third, scoring nine runs on six hits to take a 12-5 lead. The biggest blow in the inning was a grand slam to left field by Antoino Balboa on the ninth pitch of the at-bat that drove in four.

Youngstown scored five runs on five hits in the top of the fourth inning. Austin Lafferty singled, scoring one run, Jack Lutte singled, scoring one run, Lafferty scored after tagging up, Slanker doubled, scoring one run, and Cordeiro singled, scoring one run.

Youngstown then made the score 13-12 in the top of the sixth after Cordeiro tripled, scoring two runs, and Henne singled, scoring one run.

Youngstown scored eight runs on two hits in the top of the seventh inning. John Chalus drew a walk, scoring one run, Cordeiro singled, scoring one run, Henne was struck by a pitch, driving in a run, Gino Lazzari drew a walk, scoring one run, Jacob McGuire drew a walk, scoring one run, Lafferty doubled, scoring two runs, and Lutte grounded out, scoring one run.

Kiayuan Baskerville pitched three and two-thirds innings in relief for Youngstown. The reliever gave up one hit and zero runs while, striking out six and walking one. Luke Mccoy led things off on the hill for Youngstown. He gave up eight hits and 12 runs over three innings, striking out four and walking eight.

Youngstown tallied 17 hits in the game. Leadoff hitter Lafferty led with four hits in six at bats. Chalus, Henne, Lutte, and Slanker each collected multiple hits. McGuire led with three walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, piling up 11 walks for the game. Youngstown turned one double play in the game. They were sure-handed and didn’t commit a single error. Cordeiro made the most plays with 10.

 

YOUNGSTOWN OPENS WORLD SERIES WITH A SPLASH

MARION IL- Logan Cypher drove in four runs on one hit to lead Youngstown past Aroma Park, Illinois 18-3 on Friday in the Palomino World Series Opener. Cypher tripled in the third inning, scoring three runs, and hit a sacrifice fly in the second inning, scoring one.

Jacob Hayes, Jacob Rynd, and Rowan Urbach at the bottom of Youngstown’s lineup combined for six of the team’s 12 hits in their victory. They scored five runs and drove in four.

Youngstown got on the board in the top of the first inning after an error scored one run, Chandler Maurice drew a walk, scoring one run, Rynd singled, scoring one run, hayes singled, scoring three runs, and Urbach tripled, scoring one run.

Youngstown added one run in the second after Cypher hit a sacrifice fly.

Youngstown scored five runs on two hits in the top of the third inning. A wild pitch scored one run, Cypher tripled, scoring three runs, and an error scored one run.

Dawson Wallace stepped on the hill first for Youngstown. The starting pitcher gave up one hit and zero runs over two innings, striking out three and walking none. Byron Wills started the game for Aroma Park, Illinois. The starting pitcher allowed two hits and six runs (five earned) over one-third of an inning, striking out one and walking two. Brysan Zirwas threw two innings of no-run ball for Youngstown in relief. They surrendered zero hits, striking out four and walking none.

Youngstown collected 12 hits in the game. Number seven hitter, Rynd, showed the depth of the lineup, by leading them with three hits in four at bats. Hayes collected two hits in four at bats. Maurice paced Youngstown with two walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, piling up nine walks for the game. Youngstown didn’t commit a single error in the field. Noah Anzevino had the most chances in the field with four.

 

YOUNGSTOWN GOING BACK TO DEFEND TITTLE IN PALOMINO WORLD SERIES

STRUTHERS, OH- Don Pletcher’s squad will defend it’s Palomino World Series tittle in Laredo, Texas after winning the east zone regional championship on Wednesday night at Bob Cene Park. The game didn’t finish in 7 innings because of a lightning delay, but Youngstown Blue had a mammoth lead after 2 innings at the plate.

Youngstown Blue came out with a bang in the first inning scoring 12 runs on 7 hits, including 4 doubles. The team then scored 2 more runs in the second with a double from Jack Kail, and then a triple by Andrew Marcello. The game was called due to lightning, but Youngstown Blue had a 14-1 lead at the time, and the east zone regional champion was awarded to Youngstown.

Catcher Kolton Shaffer lead the way with 4 RBI’s in 2 at-bats. He was followed by Gavin Miller who was 3-3 with a double and 2 runs scored. Erik Sundgren also had 3 RBI’s and a double as the lead-off hitter.

Youngstown returns to Texas for the Palomino World Series to defend last year’s championship. The tournament begins Friday, July 29th, and Youngstown will play the winner of Lithuania and the South Zone champion on the 30th at 11:30 A.M. Goodluck to Youngstown in the 2022 Palomino World Series.
