STRAHAN SAVES THE DAY FOR PERRY

DALTON OH- It doesn’t get more clutch than this. Down 4-3 in the bottom of the seventh with two runners on, Perry’s Elise Strahan stepped into the box and launched a three-run bomb to straightaway center, walking it off in dramatic fashion and punching the Pirates’ ticket to the regional final.

Perry will now square off with the winner of Elyria Catholic vs Lakeview on Friday at Dalton with a shot at a regional crown.

This one had the tension of a championship bout. Perry jumped ahead early in the first, scratching a run across on a Morgan Winters RBI knock. But Field didn’t flinch. Lilli Sutkowy evened things up in the sixth with a missile to center, knotting the game at 3-3. Then in the top of the seventh, Maddie Burge lifted a sac fly to give the Falcons a 4-3 edge, and it looked like Field might sneak out with it. But Strahan had other plans.

Sophie Sivon went the distance in the circle for Perry, gutting out seven innings while scattering nine hits and giving up four runs, striking out three without a walk. Burge took the loss for Field, giving up nine hits and six runs—five of them earned—across six gritty innings.

At the plate, Strahan led the Pirates with three RBIs off that game-winning swing. Winters and Arianna Rogers chipped in two hits each to keep the offense rolling. For Field, Sutkowy was the engine—going 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs—while Abby Harlin and Jessica Pollard each added two hits of their own. In the end, this one came down to who had the final punch. And Perry landed it with authority.

GIRARD CHECKS THEIR PULSE WITH WILD SEMIFINAL

PERRY OH-  Girard dug deep and pulled off a gutsy 7-6 win over Perry on Tuesday, using a monster sixth inning to flip the game and punch their ticket to the district championship.

The Indians got on the board early thanks to a solo shot to left in the second, but things got dicey in the fifth. Perry broke loose for four runs — a groundout that brought in two, an RBI double, and an error that plated another — giving the Pirates a 4-1 lead heading into the sixth.

That’s when Girard turned up the heat. Seven hits in one frame lit up the scoreboard as the Indians dropped a six-spot in the top of the sixth. The big swing came from Will Hynes, who ripped a full-count single to drive in two and cap the comeback. That rally turned a three-run hole into a 7-4 lead.

Camron Herrick went the distance on the hill for Girard, gutting through seven innings. He gave up eight hits and six runs (five earned), but battled through traffic and struck out seven to seal the win.

Girard finished with 12 knocks on the day, with Dominic Phillips leading the hit parade at 3-for-5. Hynes, Phillips, Ja’den Royal, Evan Tuttle, and Zach Ward each brought home a run. Kaiden Clare chipped in two hits of his own, and Hynes swiped a pair of bags to keep the pressure on. The squad swiped four in total.

Perry kept it interesting with a late push, including two RBIs from catcher Owen McKoon, who went 2-for-3 at the plate. But the rally fell short, and Girard held on.

Next up: a heavyweight clash with Ursuline in the district championship. First pitch is set for Thursday at 2:00 at Skeels Field in Akron.

PIRATES STEAL A TRIP TO REGIONALS

MENTOR OH-  Perry rode the arm of Sophie Sivon and the bats of a locked-in lineup to a 5-3 win over Edgewood on Friday, locking up a district title in style.

Sivon was in command from the jump, fanning 10 and walking just one in a complete-game effort. She scattered five hits and gave up three runs, two of which came late as Edgewood tried to claw their way back into it.

The Pirates struck first in the third inning when Morgan Winters ripped a double that brought two runs around to score. They kept the pressure on in the fourth, building up a 5-0 lead before Edgewood made some noise.

Addison Lamson tried to spark a comeback with a solo shot in the fifth. The Warriors scratched across a few more with a single and a gutsy steal of home, but Sivon slammed the door shut down the stretch.

Winters and Arianna Rogers each drove in a pair, while Elise Strahan couldn’t miss—going a perfect 3-for-3 at the dish to lead the Pirates’ offense. Perry also flashed the leather, turning a clean double play to help keep the Warriors in check.

Lamson and Lucianna Paolillo did their part for Edgewood. Lamson went yard and led the team in RBI, while Paolillo was solid in the circle with seven punchouts and also picked up two hits at the plate.

With the win, Perry moves on to the regional round where they’ll square off against the winner of Field vs. West Branch. Game site is still up in the air.

PIRATES GIVE NO QUARTER TO JEFFERSON

PERRY OH- Perry came out firing and never looked back, blanking Jefferson 4-0 on Tuesday to punch their ticket to the district title game.

The Pirates wasted no time getting on the board—Rosalyn Tharp came through in the first with an RBI single to give Perry the early edge. They didn’t let up in the second, either. Sophie Sivon and Elise Strahan each knocked in runs with clean singles, and just like that, it was 4-0.

That was all Sivon needed in the circle. The righty was in full control, tossing a complete-game shutout. She scattered three hits over seven innings, didn’t walk a batter, and struck out three to keep the Falcons off balance all day.

Strahan led the offense with two RBIs, while Tharp, Madeline Infalvi, and Madelyn Rupert all tallied two hits apiece as the Pirates strung together nine hits on the day.

Jefferson’s defense played clean with no errors and even turned a double play, but the bats couldn’t get going. Ada Sirrine, Rylee Demattia, and Alaina Barress each managed a hit, but that was all the Falcons could muster against Sivon’s command.

Perry now heads to the district championship game on Thursday, where they’ll square off with Edgewood at Mentor.

CANFIELD GLOWS LIKE CRAZY ON SENIOR NIGHT

CANFIELD OH- Canfield wasted no time getting the sticks going and never looked back in Monday’s 7-1 win over Perry.

The Cards came out swinging in the first—Marina Koenig ripped a double to get the party started, and Leah Figueroa followed with a moonshot to straightaway center to plate two more. Just like that, it was 3-0.

They tacked on another in the second thanks to a wild pitch, and by then, Canfield was fully in control.

Camryn Hrina set the tone in the circle, spinning four scoreless frames while giving up just three hits and a walk. Caylee Ortiz came in to lock it down, tossing a clean inning to finish it off.

At the plate, the Cards racked up 10 knocks. Figueroa stayed hot in the cleanup spot with a 2-for-3 day and a pair of RBIs. Sydney Lutz led the hit parade with three knocks, and Koenig added a 2-for-4 showing with an RBI double in that big first inning.

Defensively, Canfield turned a twin killing and didn’t give Perry much daylight all night. Perry scratched across a run late, but it was too little, too late. Elise Strahan drove in the lone tally for the Pirates, who managed six hits total.

Canfield rolls into their next matchup on Wednesday at Howland with momentum.  That game will be a continuation of a game delayed earlier in the season.

COLLINS KNOCKS OUT 100 CAREER HITS

PERRY OH-  Sydney Collins came up clutch and then some Thursday night, blasting a three-run bomb and driving in four as Perry rolled past Jefferson 12-6.

The Falcons got on the board first with an RBI groundout in the top of the first, but Perry didn’t waste time firing back. Collins ripped a two-run single to spark a four-run inning, helped by an error and a fielder’s choice that brought in another.

In the second, Perry blew it open. Elise Strahan dropped in an RBI double, and then Collins turned on one and sent it over the center field fence for a three-run shot that lit up the dugout and pushed the lead to 8-2. Sophie Sivon made it 9-3 in the third with a steal of home that caught everyone off guard.

Morgan Winters handled the work in the circle, grinding through seven innings while scattering 10 hits and striking out nine. Jefferson kept the bats alive, but Winters limited the damage and never let the Falcons string too much together.

Strahan, Madeline Infalvi, and Collins all had multi-hit nights. The Pirates were locked in at the plate with eight walks, and Infalfi and Collins each picked up two of those. They were aggressive on the bases, swiping four bags to keep the pressure on.

Jefferson racked up 10 hits of their own, with Rylee Demattia leading the way—2-for-4 with three RBIs. Alaina Barresss and Julia Spragur also added two hits apiece, and the Falcons matched Perry with four stolen bases. Next up for the Pirates: a Friday clash with Wickliffe as they look to keep swinging hot.

PIRATES GET SECOND STRAIGHT ONE RUN WIN

PEPPER PIKE OH- Perry pulled out a gritty 4-3 win over Orange on Tuesday, leaning on clutch hitting and solid work from the bullpen to seal the deal.

The Pirates cracked the scoreboard in the third. Carter Crofoot drove a single into center to bring one in, and an Orange miscue allowed another run to cross, giving Perry a 2-0 edge.

Orange came right back in the bottom half, tying things up with a double and a run-scoring single to make it 2-2.

Perry answered fast. In the fourth, Luke Sivon knocked in the go-ahead run with a base hit, and Crofoot added a sac fly to pad the lead to 4-2. That was all the cushion they needed.

Carter Hopkins picked up the win, tossing four innings while striking out seven. He gave up six hits and three runs, but kept Perry in control. Trent Taylor came on in relief and slammed the door with two scoreless frames, and Logan Buehner locked it down for the save.

Crofoot led the way with a pair of RBIs, while Michal Niedzwiecki chipped in with two hits. Perry’s defense was clean all game—no errors—with Owen McKoon handling 11 chances behind the dish and in the field.

Orange got RBIs from Carlisle-Winston, Tyler Diviney, and McKinnon, and even turned two double plays, but couldn’t push across the tying run late. Next up, Perry heads to Jefferson Area for another tough test on Thursday.

RED LETTER SENIOR NIGHT IN PERRY

PERRY OH-  Perry wasted no time making a statement on Tuesday, torching Conneaut 15-0 behind a big-time showing from Arianna Rogers.

Rogers was locked in, driving in four runs on a double and a three-run bomb to center in the third. She got things rolling early and then dropped the hammer to put it away.

The Pirates dropped a nine-spot in the first inning and never looked back. Morgan Winters walked in a run, Sydney Collins and Madelyn Rupert each knocked in runs with singles, Sophie Sivon cracked a two-run double, and Rogers added an RBI double of her own. Just about everyone in the order chipped in during the opening frame.

In the third, Perry added four more. Rogers crushed her homer to center, and Rosalyn Tharp followed it up with one of her own to keep the fireworks going.

Rupert dominated in the circle, tossing a one-hit shutout with seven strikeouts over five innings. She worked fast, hit her spots, and never let Conneaut settle in.

At the dish, the Pirates stacked up 10 hits. Rogers and Elise Strahan each had two knocks, while the team drew seven walks to keep the pressure on. Winters and Infalvi each worked a pair of free passes. On defense, Perry was rock solid—no errors, no mistakes, all business. Tharp led the way with four clean chances.

Conneaut’s only hit came off the bat of Ashlyn Sherman, but the Spartans had no answer for Perry’s firepower. Perry now turns the page to Thursday’s matchup with Jefferson Area, riding plenty of momentum into the next one.

PERRY SLAMS THE BREAKS ON WARRIORS OFFENSE

ASHTABULA OH- Madelyn Rupert was dialed in at the plate Wednesday, going a perfect 4-for-4 to help Perry shut out Edgewood 6-0.

Rupert was a tough out all night—singling three times and adding a double to spark the Pirates’ offense. She, Emma Brainard, and Sophie Sivon made the bottom of the lineup a nightmare, combining for six of Perry’s 12 hits while driving in four runs and scoring twice.

The Pirates got on the board early with a knock from Rosalyn Tharp in the first. Sivon followed with an RBI single in the second, and Morgan Winters put one over the wall in the third on an 0-2 pitch to make it 3-0.

That was plenty of cushion for Sivon in the circle. She scattered four hits across seven shutout innings, struck out five, and didn’t give Edgewood many chances to get anything going.

Rogers and Tharp added multi-hit nights for Perry, and the defense backed up their pitcher with a clean sheet—no errors, sharp play all around. Edgewood managed four hits but couldn’t string them together to mount any kind of threat. Next up, the Pirates host Geneva on Monday.

PERRY KNOCKS THE COMETS OUT OF ORBIT

SOLON OH- After giving up two early runs to Solon in the first, the Pirates settled in and took over by the third inning. Elise Strahan got the rally going with a base knock up the middle, Arianna Rogers smoked a double to left to bring one in, and Rosalyn Tharp followed with another RBI single to center. Just like that, Perry had flipped the scoreboard.

The Pirates added more cushion in the sixth. Morgan Winters launched a solo shot to left to set the tone, and a heads-up play on a liner from Madeline Infalvi brought home another run. Perry finished with 11 hits, keeping pressure on Solon’s defense all night.

Winters went the distance in the circle, scattering eight hits and giving up just two runs while walking one. She let her defense do the work and they backed her up, turning a double play and staying aggressive on the basepaths with five stolen bags. Infalvi swiped two of those.

Rogers and Tharp each drove in a pair. Strahan and Sophie Sivon added multi-hit games to the mix. On the flip side, Solon’s Grace Gerhard drove in both of their runs in the first, and struck out 12 on the mound, but the Pirates stayed persistent and found their spots. Perry hits the road next to take on Edgewood, looking to keep the bats hot.
