CANFIELD OH- In the realm of high school soccer, there are standout players, and then there’s Maci Toporcer. Hailing from Canfield, Ohio, Maci is widely regarded as not just the best soccer player in the area but a shining example of talent, dedication, and leadership all rolled into one exceptional athlete.

While her talent on the field is undeniable, what truly sets Maci apart is her unparalleled work ethic and natural ability to lead. These qualities, when combined, create something truly special, making her a standout figure both on and off the soccer pitch.

Maci’s 2023 season has been nothing short of remarkable. In just 10 games, she has found the back of the net an astonishing 21 times, accounting for exactly half of Canfield’s goals. Her scoring prowess is complemented by her playmaking abilities, as she is tied for the team lead in assists with 8, accumulating a total of 50 points this season. Her exceptional contributions are a significant factor behind Canfield’s undefeated record.

As she prepares to graduate from high school, Maci’s journey as a student-athlete is far from over. She is set to continue her soccer career as a Division I athlete at Purdue Fort Wayne, where she will compete in the Horizon League. NEW MIDDLETOWN, OH – It’s week six and the Springfield Tigers look like they are hitting their stride. They have put up one hundred and twenty-seven points over the last two weeks. And while the running game has been a big component that teams can’t overlook the passing threat this team poses. And that’s made possible in part thanks to the big play threat of senior Dylan Sheely. Sheely plays wide receiver and cornerback for the Tigers. Sheely’s ability to get open in tight coverage alongside of his explosive speed makes him a favorite target in the passing game. He also has been getting involved in the rushing game along with playing the defensive side of the ball. But his favorite position is receiver and that’s where he thrives.

YSN’s own, Noah Doughty, had the opportunity to o sit down with Dylan this week at Tiger’s Table, to talk about how being apart of the state run during their freshman year has shaped this senior class, what he thinks this team can accomplish this season, what it means playing for Springfield and the support means to him, and rapid fire questions where we learn more about Dylan both on and off the field.

NEW MIDDLETOWN, OH – We are halfway through the season and the Springfield Tigers offense has been explosive. And a big part of that has been the blocking they received not only from the offensive line but the fullback well. The fullback’s ability to step up and block for both the run and pass game has made them one of the unsung heroes of this team.  This week we got to catch up with senior fullback and linebacker Davin McKinney. McKinney has been battling injuries this season but made his senior year debut against Mathews last Friday. Davin was a letter winner last year for the Tigers and is looking forward to being able to make an impact down the stretch.

WARREN OH-!Taylor Kuhn, the senior and captain of Champion’s girls’ soccer team, stands as one of the brightest stars in the YSN family and the embodiment of soccer talent and intelligence. Her remarkable field vision and soccer IQ have consistently allowed her to make the right decisions on the field, making her a driving force for her team. Recently, she achieved a monumental milestone by becoming the program’s all-time leader in career assists, a testament to her playmaking abilities and the impact she has had on Champion’s soccer legacy.

In the 2022 season, Kuhn’s performance was nothing short of spectacular. She showcased her versatility as a player, netting an impressive 30 goals and contributing 17 assists. Her excellence on the field did not go unnoticed, earning her the distinction of being named to the 1st Team All-State and 1st Team All-District. These accolades highlight her exceptional skills and leadership within the sport.

As the 2023 season unfolds, Taylor Kuhn continues to shine brightly on the soccer pitch. Through nine games, she has already tallied an impressive 22 goals and contributed 7 assists, further solidifying her reputation as a prolific scorer and playmaker. JOHNSTON JUST GETS IT DONE

ASHTABULA OH- Gabbie Johnston, the junior outside hitter for St. John’s, has not only been a statistical powerhouse on the court since she first stepped onto the volleyball scene but has also evolved into a true leader for her team, both on and off the court. As she continues to mature into her junior year, her growth and contributions have become indispensable to the 10-1 St. John’s team.

In her sophomore season in 2022, Johnston had a standout year, showcasing her prowess as an offensive and defensive force. She recorded an impressive 278 kills, averaging 3.2 per set, a testament to her ability to deliver powerful and precise hits when her team needed them most. Her defensive capabilities were equally impressive, with 358 digs to her name, averaging a remarkable 13.3 per match. Additionally, Johnston displayed her serving skills with 56 aces, making her a multifaceted asset to the team.

As the 2023 season unfolds, Johnston has continued to shine. Through 11 matches, she has already amassed an impressive 117 kills and is currently hitting at an impressive .249 percentage, showcasing her consistency and accuracy at the net. Her defensive contributions remain steadfast, with 146 digs and an average of 13.5 per match, reaffirming her role as a reliable backcourt presence. Notably, Johnston is also making her mark from the service line with 44 aces to her name.

One remarkable milestone lies within Johnston’s reach: 1000 career digs. She needs just 133 more to achieve this significant accomplishment, a testament to her dedication and tenacity on the court.
