A LOT TO BRAGG ABOUT
YOUNGSTOWN, OH- Valley Christian High School’s senior defensive sensation, Jackson Bragg, has left an indelible mark on the field and in the hearts of his teammates and coaches. In a recent player profile interview on the YSN Podcast, hosted by DJ Yokley and Anthony Hartwig, Bragg opened up about what drives his passion for football and his impressive performance.
Regarded as a pivotal figure on Valley Christian’s defense, Bragg’s presence on the field is nothing short of commanding. “He’s an absolute game wrecker,” Yokley exclaimed during the podcast. “Teams need to know his number and where he is.” This acknowledgment is a testament to Bragg’s relentless work ethic and competitive spirit.
When asked about his continuous improvement, Bragg credited his teammates for fostering a competitive environment. “You know how iron sharpens iron. I’m better because I push my teammates, and they push me,” he explained. This mentality extends beyond merely personal glory, as Bragg emphasized his desire to be a role model and elevate his team’s performance.
Off the field, Bragg has embraced leadership by teaching younger players to appreciate the sport beyond just the fame and accolades. “It’s about playing for your team, your coaches, the fans, and even those who root against you,” Bragg said.
A particularly touching moment in the interview came when Bragg dedicated his efforts to his late grandmother, Mary Louise Jackson. “She came to every one of my games, even when she was very sick,” he shared emotionally. “She’s the reason I started playing football and she always supported me. I play for her.”
Bragg, known for his intense and passionate style of play, revealed that what appears as anger on the field is actually part of his competitive edge. “I love trash talking; it’s like gasoline on a campfire,” he chuckled. His teammates might see shades of Ray Lewis or Joey Porter in his aggressive play and confident trash talk.
As Bragg approaches graduation, he hopes to leave a legacy as “a cool cat”—someone who was not only excellent on the field but also cherished by his peers and community. “Real cool,” he stated with a smile, embodying the charisma and warmth that have made him a beloved figure in Valley Christian athletics.
Jackson Bragg’s journey may be far from over, but his impact on Valley Christian’s football program and community ensures his legacy will endure long after the final whistle blows.
