HUFF WILL BLOW YOU AWAY

NEWTON FALLS, OH — Senior Cameron Huff has spent his entire life aspiring to be a standout varsity basketball player for the Newton Falls Tigers. In a recent interview with YSN, Huff shared his experiences and the profound impact that his journey through the basketball program has had on him. “It’s definitely crazy. It’s kind of bittersweet,” Huff reflected on his senior year. “I was a ball boy forever, just one day hoping that I would be a varsity basketball player for the Newton Falls Tigers. And now that it’s here, I’ve definitely cherished the last two years.”

Huff attributes much of his growth and success to the Newton Falls community and his long-time coach, Coach Simbach, who has been a fixture in the program for over three decades. Describing the tight-knit basketball family, Huff emphasized, “It starts with the community supporting us, coming out to all of our games. It helps when you have Coach Sembach, who’s been there for 30, 35 years.” Under Sembach’s rigorous and supportive coaching style, Huff and his teammates have maintained a tradition of excellence. “One winning a league. We’ve, I think, came second or won the league like three out of the last five years,” Huff said. “We haven’t won a district in, like, eight years. We definitely want to get that.” The camaraderie built through team camps and practices has been crucial to Huff’s high school basketball experience. He spoke fondly of the summer team camp in Marietta and the bonding experience at the iconic Hoosier gym. “Playing in there, staying in a hotel room with guys, that just kind of builds the team chemistry.”

Huff’s well-rounded approach to basketball has seen him excel statistically while fostering an environment where every player can shine. “I’m not really trying to score, but when it’s there, I’ll take the shot and hopefully I’ll make it,” he said modestly. Beyond the court, Huff has managed to balance his academic responsibilities effectively. With most of his high school classes completed, he is now taking college courses, which allows him more time to focus on basketball.

Looking ahead, Huff is set to attend Point Park University in Downtown Pittsburgh, where he plans to play golf and study education. “It’s cool. It’s something you kind of dream of when you’re a kid, right? To play a sport in college,” Huff remarked. As his high school career winds down, Huff remains a role model for younger athletes, much like the players he once admired. He looks forward to finishing his senior year on a high note and cherishes the lifelong friendships and bonds formed with his teammates. Reflecting on his journey, Huff expressed gratitude for his supportive network, including his parents, coaches, and brother. “I really appreciate that support. It means a lot.” With dedication and a supportive community behind him, Cameron Huff exemplifies the spirit and heart of Newton Falls athletics.
