BULLDOGS SIT ON NE8 THRONE

POLAND OH- The Poland Bulldogs hit the links on Wednesday with a conference championship next on their list of accomplishments to be met this season. That accomplishment was checked off the list as the Bulldogs captured the NE8 Boys and Girls team titles at Squaw Creek Country Club.

Angelo Rinaldi took home medalist honors carding a 74 on the day. Rinaldi’s 74 alongside teammates Matthew Marrone 77, AJ Battaglia 84 and Michael Chambers 85 guided Poland to the team title with a score of 320.

South Range (339) finished second behind Michael Garwacki 76, Luke Rohan 86, Zander DiMuzio 88 and Jack Carey 89. Hubbard’s (348) third place finish was paced by Garrett Brajkovich 79, Jonathan Adamson 86, Geno Leshnak 91 and Colten Smith rounded out the card with a 92.

Lakeview (390) received contributions from Jason Demonica 90, Will Kirila 93, Ty Chamberlain 103, and Jack Peterson 104 on their way to claiming fourth place.

Girard (399) took fifth behind Wilson Stamford 97, Dom Phillips 99, Matt Shelley 100, and Chaise Henderson 103.

Niles (460) finished the day in the sixth spot.  Anthony Cesario recorded a 100,  while Nathan Glassmeyer 114,  Colin Preusser 120, and Coleman Lamb 126 competed for the Red Dragons.

Struthers (476) received  contributions from James Harrison 109, Mario Pecchia 119, Owen Eisenbraun 120, and Peyton Bova 128 to finish seventh overall.

The Girls were led individually by South Range’s Chloe Puhl carding a day’s best 98. Poland claimed the top spot for the  team title with a score of 424 The Bulldogs were led by Olivia Loftus 99, Nina Gordon 100, Kylie Kapics 108 and Katelynn Roberts 117. Hubbard (445) finished second behind Malorie Oyler 106, Maddie Fox 110, Kennedy Perline 114, and Eva Flynn 115.
South Range’s (460) third place finish was cemented by Puhl’s 98, Bethany Witmer 118, Brooke Herchik 120, and Annie Lumsden 124.
Girard (473) landed fourth with Lacie Lamm leading the way with 112, while Ally Gassman 118, Andriana LoCastro 121, Julia Ragozzino122 all added to their finish.
Lakeview (488) took fifth behind Delany Godfrey 115, Cassie Klotz 120, Addie Nicholas 125 and Lily Bell 128.
Niles (514) came in sixth and were led on the card by Kelli Kover 116, Tori Lanam 131, Alysse D’Errico 133 and Jillian Parry 134.
Struthers fielded a duo consisting of Bella Sadusky 121 and Addison Liptak 133.

CAMPBELL PUTS THE BULLDOGS ON A LEASH

CAMPBELL OH- In a highly competitive non-conference matchup, Campbell emerged victorious over Poland in four sets, with scores of 22-25, 25-16, 25-17, and 25-14. The match showcased a strong and balanced effort from Campbell’s squad, with several players making significant contributions to the team’s success.

MiLeena Williams led the way in the service department with 3 aces, adding to her overall impact on the game. The offensive prowess was on full display, with Kendall Brunn recording an impressive 17 kills, while the freshman standout Elysia Rudolphi contributed 12 kills of her own. MiLeena Williams and Cyra Cross also played a crucial role in the offensive attack, each recording 10 kills. On the defensive front, Carla Ramirez Ortiz tallied 3 blocks, and MiLeena Williams added 2 blocks to her impressive stat line.

Carla Ramirez Ortiz’s precise setting was a key factor, as she recorded an impressive 47 assists, facilitating the team’s offense effectively. In the back row, a collective effort on the defensive end was led by Gabriela Villanueva Santos and Cyra Cross, each recording 18 digs. Angeliz Diaz and Jayda Coriano added 15 digs apiece, while MiLeena Williams contributed 10 more. Campbell’s well-rounded performance, both offensively and defensively, secured their victory in a hard-fought battle against Poland.

FANTASTIC FULTON

POLAND, OH – The Poland Bulldogs football team is off to a 4-0 start in the 2023 season and one reason for that early season success is the consistent play from its senior leaders. One of those senior leaders who are playing at a high level is running back and middle linebacker, Cole Fulton. Cole’s has been one of those players who plays with heart and a physicality that is unmatched by his opponents. Whether he is on defense eyeing up the competition from the middle of the field waiting to stuff a run play or if he is in the backfield waiting to take the ball and rumble forwards to help move the ball down the field for his offense. Cole loves the opportunity to play at Poland and wouldn’t have it any other way!

YSN’s own, Steve Leslie, was joined by Cole Fulton this week at Combine Brothers to talk about the hot start to the season as he has led the Bulldogs to four straight wins to start the year, what Cole wants to do after high school, what he thinks this Poland squad is capable of doing the rest of the season and into the playoffs, a rapid fire questionnaire where Steve puts Cole on the spot to see what makes him the person and player he is today, and so much more!

POLAND, OH – The Poland Bulldogs have a multitude of skilled players all over the field at any given moment in a game, one such player is Paul Greco. Greco, whose versatility and confidence in his own game have set him apart as a force to be reckoned with on the football field. Paul’s electrifying presence on the field is felt on all sides of the ball, as he excels as a defensive back, wide receiver, and kick returner, leaving his mark all over the field.

On the defensive side, Greco is the definition of a game-changer, with his fast reflexes and an ability to read the opposing quarterback, he consistently makes plays all over the field. But Paul’s talents extend far beyond defense; as a wide receiver, he possesses the combination of speed and great hands, making him a reliable target for his quarterback.

YSN’s own, Steve Leslie, had the opportunity to sit down with Paul at Combine Brothers this week to talk about his senior year so far, what his plans are post high school, what his goals are for the rest of the season and some team goals for the Bulldogs, and a rapid fire questionnaire where we learn about Paul and what makes him the special athlete and person he is today.

POLAND BULLDOGS FOOTBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP. 3) WITH TOM PAVLANSKY

POLAND, OH – Head coach Tom Pavlansky and the Poland Bulldogs (4-0) are playing the best football they have played all year currently as all the “puzzle pieces” are starting to fit together. Last week the Dogs played host to Route 224 rival, the Canfield Cardinals and they gave Poland all they could handle but at the final whistle, Poland was victorious in a thrilling 10-7 victory. Up next for Coach Pav and the Bulldogs will be a tough road NE8 matchup with the 3-1 Hubbard Eagles.

POLAND FINALLY GETS THE BEST OF THE CARDINALS

POLAND OH- In a thrilling Battle of 224, the rivalry lived up to its reputation as Poland ended a six-game losing streak to Canfield with a hard-fought 10-7 victory. The first half showcased a defensive battle, with neither offense managing to score. It was Poland’s Jas Stefancin who broke the deadlock with a field goal, granting Poland a slim 3-0 lead at halftime.

Canfield had their moments in the first half, moving the ball effectively, but Poland’s red-zone defense stood firm. A promising drive led by quarterback Paul Bindas and running back Danny Inglis reached the Bulldogs’ 23-yard line in the first quarter, but a Canfield fumble thwarted their efforts. Later in the half, running back Scottie Eaton’s big plays brought Canfield closer to field goal range, but miscues prevented them from making the kick.

Canfield came out strong in the second half, with Inglis breaking free for an impressive 87-yard run to Poland’s 10-yard line. Bindas capitalized on the opportunity, scoring a 5-yard touchdown run to put Canfield ahead 7-3. However, Poland responded with a 41-yard touchdown from Cole Fulton, taking a 10-7 lead.

In the final quarter, Poland executed a keep-away strategy to maintain their lead. Despite Canfield’s efforts, they couldn’t break through Poland’s defense again. The game concluded with a hard-fought 10-7 victory for Poland, marking a significant milestone as they snapped their losing streak against Canfield in a memorable Battle of 224 showdown.

CANFIELD FOOTBALL COACH’S CORNER (EPISODE 4) WITH MIKE PAVLANSKY

LAKEVIEW IS THE BEST BULLDOG IN SHOW

POLAND OH- In a thrilling volleyball matchup, Lakeview showcased their superiority on the court with a convincing 3-0 victory over Poland. The scores of 25-17, 25-12, and 25-14 tell the tale of a match in which Lakeview left no room for doubt about their dominance.

Lakeview’s service game was on point, with Mara Schmader leading the way with an impressive 18 service points. Mallory Mailach contributed to the service dominance with 4 aces, adding valuable points to Lakeview’s tally.

Reagan Price emerged as a formidable force at the net, amassing a remarkable 18 kills, consistently finding ways to put the ball away and secure crucial points for her team. Mallory Mailach orchestrated the offense with precision, tallying an impressive 39 assists, ensuring her teammates had the opportunities they needed to shine.

Molly Stuart showcased her defensive skills with 2 crucial blocks, fortifying Lakeview’s defense at the net. Meanwhile, Addy Allen displayed her prowess in the backline with an impressive 23 digs, demonstrating her commitment to keeping the ball in play and preventing Poland from gaining momentum.

Lakeview’s 3-0 victory over Poland was a testament to their teamwork, skill, and unwavering determination on the volleyball court. As they continue their season journey, fans can look forward to more exciting matchups and impressive performances from this talented squad.

INDIANS TALLY ANOTHER NE8 WIN

GIRARD OH- In a thrilling display of home-court advantage, Girard served up a convincing sweep against Poland, asserting their dominance with scores of 25-10, 25-21, and 25-5. The Girard squad delivered a stellar performance that left the home crowd buzzing with excitement.

Girard’s offensive firepower was on full display, led by the dynamic duo of Nico Cochran and Bree Latell. Cochran led the charge with an impressive 19 kills, while Latell wasn’t far behind, contributing 18 kills of her own. Their combined efforts kept Poland’s defense on its toes throughout the match.

Bailey Walters played a crucial role in facilitating Girard’s offensive onslaught, tallying an impressive 38 assists. Additionally, Latell and Cochran made their presence felt at the service line, with Latell recording 16 service points and 6 aces, while Cochran added 11 points and 3 aces.

Defensively, Latell continued to shine, accumulating 9 digs, while Walters contributed 6 more to the effort. Latell also showcased her versatility with 2 blocks, and Kristina Olesky added another block to the mix.

On the Poland side, Izzy Greco led the team with 6 kills, and Mya Scott provided 9 assists to keep the offense running. Bella Khoury was a defensive stalwart for Poland, amassing an impressive 16 digs.

With this convincing victory, Girard continues to assert themselves as a force to be reckoned with in the volleyball arena. Their next challenge awaits as they host Mineral Ridge in a non-conference test on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Poland will return home, looking to regroup and bounce back as they prepare to host Lakeview on Thursday. POLAND DEFENDS THE DOG HOUSE; REMAIN PERFECT

POLAND, OH- In a non-conference high school football matchup, the Poland Bulldogs faced off against the Firelands at Poland Seminary. The game ended with a resounding victory for Poland, with a final score of 49-14.

**First Quarter:**
The game kicked off with Poland Seminary (PSHS) taking an early lead, scoring a touchdown on a 34-yard pass, followed by a successful extra point kick. Firelands (FHS) responded with a touchdown of their own, as Collin Scott ran in a 1-yard score, with Matthew Bednar adding the extra point. The quarter ended with Poland Seminary leading 7-7.

**Second Quarter:**
Poland Seminary dominated the second quarter, scoring three touchdowns. They extended their lead with a 15-yard pass, followed by a 35-yard pass, and a 2-yard rushing touchdown, converting all the extra point kicks. The halftime score stood at 28-7 in favor of Poland Seminary.

**Third Quarter:**
The third quarter continued to be in Poland Seminary’s favor, as they added another touchdown with a 16-yard pass and an extra point. The score was now 42-7 in favor of Poland Seminary heading into the final quarter.

**Fourth Quarter:**
In the final quarter, Poland Seminary sealed their victory with a 7-yard rushing touchdown and the extra point. Firelands managed to score one more touchdown with a 1-yard run by Christian Buchs, and the extra point was successful. However, it was too little, too late for Firelands as the game ended with a score of 49-14 in favor of Poland Seminary.

**Team Totals:**
– Poland Seminary had 399 total yards compared to Firelands’ 194.
– The passing yards were 161 for Poland Seminary and 89 for Firelands.
– Rushing yards favored Poland Seminary with 238 yards to Firelands’ 105.
– Poland Seminary had 17 first downs compared to Firelands’ 11.
– Turnovers were a significant factor, with Firelands committing 5 compared to Poland Seminary’s 2.

Poland’s Dominic Pagano had a standout performance, contributing to his team’s victory with a total of five touchdowns. He completed 9 of 13 passes for 155 yards and threw 4 touchdown passes, including 2 to RB Cole Fulton. Additionally, Pagano rushed for 23 yards and scored a rushing touchdown.

Poland’s RB Danny Nittoli had an impressive game, amassing 106 yards on 8 carries, including a 72-yard touchdown run.

On the defensive side, Poland’s DB Paul Greco stood out with two interceptions during the game.

Poland Seminary emerged victorious with a convincing win, maintaining their undefeated record at 3-0, while Firelands dropped to 2-2 on the season.
