BULLDOGS SHUT THE DOOR ON HOWLAND

HOWLAND, OH- The Poland Bulldogs traveled to Howland to face the Tigers with both teams trying to increase their record to 2-1. The last time the Bulldogs traveled to Howland, it was Jack Fulton’s first career start and resulted in a loss. The Bulldogs would come away with the victory this time. Poland rushed for a combined 204 rushing yards and 4 rushing touchdowns. Poland Quarterback Jack Fulton would finish the night with 133 rushing yards and two touchdowns in the winning effort. Howland Running Back Matt Woomer rushed for 138 yards for the Tigers. Poland rushes past the Tigers 27-14.

The Bulldogs struck first with a 23 yard touchdown run by Quarterback Jack Fulton that gave them the early lead. The Tigers would answer on the next drive when Matt Woomer found the end zone from 7 yards out to tie the game at 7. The Bulldogs would take control in the second quarter when Cole Fulton and Jack Fulton both scored rushing touchdowns to give Poland a 21-7 lead going into the locker room. Poland would get on the board one more time to seal their victory in the third quarter when Dillon Smith scored the teams fourth rushing touchdown of the game to increase their lead 27-7.

Tigers quarterback John Perry would get Howland on the scoreboard one more time in the fourth quarter with a 52 yard touchdown pass to Carter Mock. The Bulldogs would prove too much by the end of the game. Poland’s defense contributed 3 sacks, two interceptions in the contest. Poland (2-1) will travel to Hubbard next week while Howland (1-2) will travel to Boardman. Catch both games on YSNLive.com.

SOUTH RANGE STEALS ONE BY BULLDOGS

CANFIELD OH- South Range girls soccer continues their NE8 slate on Wednesday night with an impressive 2-1 over Poland.

Gabby Lamparty scored both of the Raiders goals on the night. Hannah Ritchie collected an assist. Hannah Ball was clutch in front of the net gathering 8 saves to keep her team in front.

The Raiders are now 3-1 on the season and will continue their campaign Tuesday September 7th traveling to Salem. Poland is now 1-1-1 and will travel to Jefferson Thursday to try and bounce back.

SPARTANS EARN FIRST WIN IN TIGHT MATCH WITH POLAND

BOARDMAN OH- The Boardman Spartans volleyball team has been dealing with a few growing pains early in the 2021 season. There are a ton of new faces, and although they’ve battled with tough teams, they haven’t been able to pull out a win. That is, until Monday night when the Spartans came out top of a 5 set match with Poland. (17-25 25-20 22-25 25-19 15-13)

Jenna Olexa led the Spartans offense by grabbing 12 kills. She completed a double double by also getting 25 digs. Lanie Vennetti and Kamryn Duritza split the setting duties, Venetti finished with 17 assists, while Duritza had 16. Cami Goske was a force at the net on defense as she collected 5 blocks. Goske was also solid offensively swinging for 9 kills.

Boardman will get back to AAC play on Thursday as they travel to Howland. Poland will have to get right back on the horse, as they host Girard on Tuesday.

POLAND BOUNCES BACK AGAINST LEOPARDS

Poland, OH- The Poland Bulldogs played their second game of the homestand against the Louisville Leopards. Both teams came into tonight’s game searching for their first win of the season. It was the Bulldogs of Poland who got into the win column. Poland’s Dom Parker and Jack Fulton both rushed for over 100 yards in tonight’s game. Coach Pavlansky picks up his first win as Poland head coach with a 21-13 victory.

Parker and the Poland Bulldogs kicked off all scoring with a 72 yard touchdown run down the Poland sideline to give the Bulldogs the early 7-0 lead. Jack Fulton would continue with the scoring for the Bulldogs with a 50 yard carry weaving through Leopard defenders increasing the lead to 14. In the second quarter the Leopards would get on the scoreboard with a 3 yard touchdown run by Riston Jobes to make the game 14-7 at halftime.

Poland would answer to open the third quarter with a 50 yard run by Fulton to find the endzone. The Leopards would get into the endzone one last time with a 24 yard touchdown catch to Zach Seaman from Caleb Miller but the Bulldog defense held their ground in the fourth quarter. Poland wins 21-13. Poland (1-1) will face Howland (1-1) next week while Louisville (0-2) will face Wooster (1-1). Catch all the games on YSNLive.com.

FALCONS SPOIL POLAND’S HOME OPENER

POLAND OH- The Jefferson Varsity Volleyball team was victorious this evening in their first away match of the season at Poland. The Falcons won in three sets with scores of 25-21, 25-18, 25-17. Jefferson’s overall record starts off at 2-0 and 1-0 in the Northeast Eight Conference (NE8). The Jefferson JV team won this evening in three sets. The Falcons host South Range on Thursday, Aug. 26 for another NE8 league matchup.

For Poland, Sarah Forsyth led the offense with 6 kills. Lexi Kalicatzaros was the team leader in digs with 12. Maddie Torus set up 7 assists. Morgan Kluchar added 2 blocks.

2021 POLAND FOOTBALL PREVIEW

POLAND OH- You can smell it in the air as the 2021 high school football season quickly approaches. A return to a 10 game schedule has everyone buzzing. YSN’s Running Point joins in on the conversation as they have taken it upon themselves to preview every football team in the YSN family. The Poland faithful have so much to be excited for this season. There ma be a new coach at the top, but Poland promises to keep its physical and hard nosed nature. Their opponents better bring their lunch pails because it is going to be hard work matching up with the Bulldogs. EAGLES GRAB FIRST WIN OF THE SEASON

HUBBARD OH- The Hubbard girls golf team got their first win of the season against Poland yesterday with a final score of 223-237. Noelle Trobek shot a 44 to lead the team. Natalie Horvath finished with a 56. Karlie Brenner turned in a score of 58, and Julia Palumbo shot a 65. Hubbard is now 1-1 on the year.

POLAND BOYS SOCCER COACH’S CORNER (EP 1) WITH BRIAN GARCAR

POLAsaND OH- Last season Poland was unstoppable in the regular seay son finishing the year without a single blemish on their record. Eleven seniors led that team through a year of adversity and uncertainty. Even though they graduated those eleven seniors, Poland returns plenty of talent and leadership. They have plenty of reasons to be optimistic in the 2021 season. Brian Garcar takes another year as the head coach leading the Bulldogs head first into another promising season.

Coach Garcar was kind enough to take the time to hop on to YSN’s Running Point to talk about the upcoming season. He chatted with Anthony Hartwig about getting the players back to a normal summer, conditioning accountability, and much more. We expect great things for the Poland program and so should you! OSCA ALL OHIO SELECTIONS ANNOUNCED

COLUMBUS OH- With the OHSAA Softball season concluding with four state champions crowned over the weekend in Akron, the Ohio Softball Coaches Association has released their All-Ohio list for all divisions. Nine YSN athletes have been given the honor.

POLAND SEES THEIR SEASON END IN SEMIFINALS

JEFFERSON OH-

Poland watched the game slip away early and couldn’t recover in a 9-2 loss to Field on Tuesday. Field scored on a single by Olivia DeVries in the first inning, and another single in the first inning, and a single by DeVries in the second inning.

The Bulldogs struggled to put runs on the board and had a tough time defensively containing Field, giving up nine runs.

Field fired up the offense in the first inning, when DeVries singled on a 2-2 count, scoring one run.

Field scored four runs in the third inning. Mallie Ruscitti and Alexsa Hurd all moved runners across the plate with RBIs.

Hurd led the Field to victory in the pitcher’s circle. The pitcher allowed five hits and two runs over seven innings, striking out six.

Katie McDonald took the loss for Poland. The righty lasted seven innings, allowing 13 hits and nine runs while striking out seven.

Poland hit one home run on the day. Mary Brant had a homer in the second inning.

Poland collected five hits. Brant and Abby Farber each managed multiple hits. Farber and Brant each managed two hits to lead.
