2 DOGS, 1 BONE; POLAND BITES BACK

POLAND, OH- In a gridiron showdown, Poland delivered an impressive 29-6 victory over Lakeview, demonstrating their football prowess on both offense and defense and flexing to the final of 28-0.

The game kicked off with a strong performance from Poland, particularly by Cole Fulton, who powered through with a 13-yard run for a touchdown, followed by a successful kick from Jas Stefancin, giving them an early lead of 7-0 in the first quarter.

The second quarter continued to favor PSHS, with Cole Fulton’s remarkable 47-yard run and another precise kick by Stefancin, extending their lead to 14-0. The Bulldogs of PSHS didn’t stop there and added to their advantage when Andrew Todd caught a 34-yard pass from Dominic Pagano, and once again, Stefancin’s kick was accurate, resulting in a 21-0 score at halftime.

LHS made a comeback attempt in the third quarter when Tatum Finley scored a 6-yard touchdown run, finally getting on the scoreboard with a score of 21-6.

However, Poland was determined to secure the win and continued to dominate in the fourth quarter. Oliver McCully’s 19-yard touchdown pass from Dom Pagano, with Stefancin’s kick, stretched their lead to 28-0.

The game statistics showcase the performances of key players on both sides. Cole Fulton led the PSHS offense with 140 rushing yards and two touchdowns, including an impressive 47-yard run. Dom Pagano also made significant contributions with 61 passing yards and two touchdown passes.

Lakeview High School, led by Stephen Gillis with 94 passing yards, made efforts to fight back, but the PSHS defense proved to be formidable.

Cole Fulton had 13 carries for 140 yards rushing and 2 TDs.  This was Fulton’s 3rd consecutive game with over 100 yards rushing.  Also of note, QB #7 Dominic Pagano had 119 yards of total offense (61 passing and 58 rushing) and threw for 2 TD passes (34 & 19 yards).
Poland advances to 8-1, while Lakeview drops to 4-5.

POLAND BULLDOGS FOOTBALL COACH’S CORNER WITH ZAC CAPAN

POLAND, OH – Head coach Tom Pavlansky has built not only a solid football program at Poland but also has one of the best coaching staffs in the area too. One such staff member, Zac Capan, has been around football for a very long time as he played college ball at Waynesburg and got into coaching. with Coach Pav at Lakeview and now to Poland.

YSN’s own, Steve Leslie, was able to sit down with Coach Capan this week at Combine Brothers to discuss the season so far, what he thinks the Bulldogs are capable of this post season, what his coaching background is like, what led him to coaching at Poland, and so much more.

POLAND, OH – Caden Catcott and Matthew Matiste are two exceptional senior soccer players who have left an indelible mark on the Poland Bulldogs soccer program. Caden, a dynamic player, has been a key figure in the team’s success with his blazing speed and great finishing. His dedication to the sport is evident in his consistent performance throughout his high school career, earning him a reputation as one of the most consistent players at Poland. Beyond his technical prowess, Caden’s leadership on and off the field has been instrumental in creating a strong team spirit among his fellow players.

Matthew Matiste, a tenacious player in his own right, has been the heartbeat of the Poland Bulldogs’ soccer team for the past four years. His exceptional ball control and vision make him an invaluable playmaker, orchestrating the team’s attacks and providing crucial assists. Matthew’s work ethic and commitment to the sport have set a remarkable example for his teammates, and his ability to maintain composure under pressure has been instrumental in the Bulldogs’ success. POLAND, OH – JD Memo, a senior standout for the Poland Bulldogs, is a remarkable student-athlete who exceled on both sides of the football as a wide receiver and defensive back until an unfortunate injury. Thankfully JD will be able to suit up tomorrow night to get back out on the field with his teammates. His agility and lightning-fast reflexes make him a force to be reckoned with in the secondary, where he showcases his ability to read plays, intercept passes, and disrupt opponents’ plays. On offense, JD’s combination of speed and sure hands transforms him into a reliable target, consistently making receptions and turning them into valuable yards. His relentless pursuit of excellence and his knack for making game-changing plays have left his mark on the team, embodying the spirit of hard work and determination that defines the Poland Bulldogs.

BULLDOGS DIG UP A WIN IN ARROWHEAD

GIRARD OH- In an electrifying matchup at Arrowhead Stadium, the Poland Bulldogs came away with a thrilling 38-35 victory on the road against the Girard Indians.

The game’s excitement started early in the first quarter when Poland’s Dom Pagano made a sensational 33-yard rushing touchdown. A successful extra point by Jas Stefancin put the Bulldogs ahead 7-0. Poland extended their lead to 10-0 as Stefancin added a 26-yard field goal with 1:18 left on the clock.

Girard answered back quickly, with Tuff McConahy connecting with Stephen Sims for a 65-yard touchdown pass, accompanied by a successful two-point conversion by Zach Morris, bringing the score to 10-7.

The second quarter continued to see both teams trading blows. Dom Pagano handed off to Cole Fulton for an 8-yard rushing touchdown, extending Poland’s lead to 17-7. Girard responded as McConahy found Stephen Sims again, this time for a 12-yard touchdown pass, and another successful two-point conversion narrowed the gap to 17-14.

Poland showed their big-play potential when Pagano connected with Cole Fulton for an 80-yard touchdown pass just moments later, making it 24-14. However, Girard remained in the mix as McConahy handed off to Sims for a 3-yard touchdown, bringing the score to 24-21 with 1:31 remaining in the half.

The third quarter continued the high-scoring trend. McConahy passed to Dominicoe Simone for an 8-yard touchdown, and another successful extra point by Morris gave Girard the lead at 28-24. Poland didn’t stay behind for long as Pagano ran it in from 10 yards out for a touchdown, and Stefancin’s extra point put them ahead 31-28.

The fourth quarter kept fans on the edge of their seats as McConahy handed off to Ahmad Curd for a 3-yard rushing touchdown, putting Girard back in the lead at 35-31. Poland, however, had a swift response when Pagano connected with Danny Nittoli for an 80-yard touchdown pass with 2:38 left in the game, reclaiming the lead at 38-35.

The game concluded with a nail-biting defensive stand by Poland on a crucial Girard 4th and 1 inside the 5-yard line with just 12 seconds left. Although Girard managed to secure a first down, time ran out before they could run another play, sealing the thrilling 38-35 victory for Poland.

POLAND’S POWERFUL DUO

POLAND, OH – The Poland Lady Bulldogs are having a season to remember as they are currently undefeated in the NE8 with a chance to win the league outright this week! That success can be linked to many things but one main reason is a group of talented senior leaders. Ariel Grischow and Leanne Williams are integral members of the Poland Lady Bulldogs soccer team, playing pivotal roles in the team’s success. As a senior midfielder, Ariel is the engine that drives the midfield with her exceptional ball-handling skills, vision, and awareness. Her ability to control the flow of the game, distribute precise passes, and contribute defensively has been instrumental in the Lady Bulldogs’ success on the field. Leanne, also a senior, has been a rock-solid presence between the posts for the Lady Bulldogs. With an impressive 75 saves on the season and five shutouts, Williams’ goalkeeping abilities have been nothing short of exceptional. Her shot-stopping, quick reflexes, and commanding presence in the box instill confidence in her teammates and serve as a barrier to opposing attackers. Leanne’s remarkable consistency and determination as a goalkeeper have played a crucial role in the Lady Bulldogs’ defensive solidity, making her a true asset to the team as they chase their goals and playoff run this season.

As seniors, they have not only been a formidable force on the field but also inspirational leaders for their teammates. Brant is known for her rock-solid defensive prowess, with a keen sense of anticipation and remarkable agility, she has stopped countless opposition attacks, earning her a reputation as a tenacious defender. Her ability to read the game and initiate crucial counterattacks from the backline has been pivotal to the Lady Bulldogs’ success. Sabrin, on the other hand, complements Mary’s skills perfectly as a fellow senior defender, Ava brings her own brand of determination and skill to the team. Her exceptional ball control and precision passing make her a vital cog in both the defensive and transitional phases of the game.
