AVIATORS FLY PAST SALEM

ALLIANCE, OH – The night was electric in Alliance as the Aviators clashed with the Salem Quakers in a highly anticipated football showdown. The Aviators were coming off a string of impressive victories, and the crowd was buzzing with excitement. Little did they know that this game would become an unforgettable chapter in the history of Alliance football.

The game kicked off with Alliance receiving the ball, and it didn’t take long for them to make their mark. Just 19 seconds into the game, Brendan Zurbrugg, the Aviators’ star quarterback, took the snap, dropped back, and then burst through a gap in the Salem defense. With incredible speed and agility, he sprinted down the field, leaving defenders in his wake. A 91-yard touchdown run set the tone for the game, and with Brendan’s successful extra point kick, Alliance took an early 7-0 lead.

The Aviators’ momentum continued to build as they dominated the first quarter. At the 7:18 mark, Brendan Zurbrugg struck again, this time with a 10-yard rushing touchdown. His extra point kick was on target, and Alliance extended their lead to 14-0.

Salem found themselves struggling to contain the Aviators’ offensive prowess. With just over four minutes left in the first quarter, Brendan Zurbrugg showcased his arm strength with a 70-yard touchdown pass to K’Vaughn Davis. Another successful extra point kick made it 21-0 in favor of Alliance.

The Quakers were desperate to get on the scoreboard, but Alliance’s defense proved to be a formidable obstacle. However, the Aviators were not finished with their scoring spree in the first half. With just over a minute remaining in the quarter, Brendan Zurbrugg delivered a 64-yard touchdown pass to Rahmir Hawkins. The extra point was good, and Alliance closed the first quarter with an astounding 28-0 lead.

As the second quarter began, the Aviators showed no signs of letting up. At the 8:26 mark, Brendan Zurbrugg connected with K’Vaughn Davis once again, this time for a 70-yard touchdown pass. The extra point was successful, and the score stretched to 35-0 in favor of Alliance.

The Aviators were firing on all cylinders, and it was time for other players to shine. Ravhan Hawkins got in on the action with a 6-yard rushing touchdown, and the extra point was good. Alliance was now leading 42-0.

The Salem Quakers were facing an uphill battle, but they didn’t give up. With just under a minute left in the second quarter, Ravhan Hawkins broke free for a 44-yard touchdown run. While the extra point attempt was no good, Alliance still held a commanding 48-0 lead.

In the third quarter, Salem managed to find the end zone. Marcus Phillips scored a 7-yard rushing touchdown, and with Troy Gibson’s successful extra point kick, the Quakers put their first points on the board, trailing 48-7.

As the game progressed, both teams fought hard, but it was Salem’s Derek Oesch who delivered a 37-yard touchdown pass to Will Harmon in the fourth quarter. With the extra point good, the final score stood at 48-14 in favor of Alliance.

The Alliance Aviators had put on a spectacular display of skill and teamwork, securing a decisive victory over the Salem Quakers. The night belonged to Brendan Zurbrugg and his teammates, who had electrified the crowd with their dazzling performance on the football field. The Alliance faithful left the stadium that night with smiles on their faces, knowing they had witnessed a truly unforgettable game.

 

PADUA SPOILS SALEM’S PLANS

SALEM OH- Salem endured a challenging battle on the football field, ultimately falling to Padua Franciscan with a final score of 39-21.

The first quarter began with a strong push from Padua as Roderick Love surged into the end zone with a 19-yard touchdown run. Padua successfully converted the two-point conversion, putting them ahead 8-0.

In the second quarter, Love continued his impressive performance, scoring another touchdown on a 20-yard run, and once again, Padua executed a successful two-point conversion, increasing their lead to 16-0. Salem responded with determination as Marcus Phillips broke through for a two-yard touchdown run, and Brayden Gibson’s extra point was good, closing the gap to 16-7. However, Padua struck back with Love’s 32-yard touchdown run, and Caleb Zolkowski’s extra point made it 23-7 in favor of Padua.

The third quarter saw Padua maintain their momentum, with Love breaking away for a 46-yard touchdown run, and Zolkowski’s successful extra point extended their lead to 30-7. Love’s incredible performance continued with a stunning 69-yard touchdown run, although the extra point attempt was no good, the score moved to 36-7 in favor of Padua.

In the final quarter, Padua added to their lead with a 30-yard field goal by Caleb Zolkowski, bringing the score to 39-7. Salem, not ready to give up, found the end zone once more with a 47-yard touchdown run by Marcus Phillips, and Gibson’s extra point made it 39-14. A late surge from Salem saw Cletis Monroy score on a nine-yard touchdown run, with Gibson converting the extra point, but it wasn’t enough to overcome Padua’s lead, resulting in a final score of 39-21 in favor of Padua Franciscan.

Salem fought hard throughout the game, showcasing their determination and resilience, but ultimately, Padua Franciscan secured the victory.

He spoke about his team’s continuous improvement and hard work, as well as growth as individuals as leaders and young men. He also talked about his squad’s mentality heading into week 5 and beyond.

HUTTON’S RECORD BREAKING PERFORMANCE HEADLINES SALEM WIN

SALEM OH- Salem’s girls’ soccer team showed their prowess on the field as they clinched a commanding conference victory over Minerva with a score of 9-3 on Wednesday. The Quakers displayed their offensive firepower, lighting up the scoreboard and securing an impressive win.

A standout performance came from Rylee Hutton, who found the back of the net an astonishing six times during the match. This remarkable feat did more than just contribute to the team’s victory; it etched her name in the annals of Salem soccer history. Hutton’s exceptional achievement saw her break the school’s record for career goals, surpassing the previous mark of 104. With a new record of 108 goals to her name, Hutton’s name now stands at the pinnacle of the program’s history.

While Hutton’s record-breaking performance undoubtedly stole the spotlight, she wasn’t the only player to shine. The Quakers displayed exceptional teamwork and a relentless offensive drive throughout the match. Goals were also scored by Emmy Kemats, Ilani Jones-Wallace, and Maddy Andres, demonstrating the depth of talent within the team.

Salem’s victory over Minerva not only solidified their conference standing but also served as a testament to their skill and determination. With Rylee Hutton’s record-breaking achievement as a symbol of their success, the Quakers are poised for a promising season ahead. WARRIORS OUT SHOOT HEATED RIVALS

BELOIT OH- Balance is key to many of life’s everyday activities. West Branch took it to another level as the Warriors balanced attack defeated Salem 164-189 on Tuesday at Flying B Golf course. Jaxon Robb, Lane Allison, Dom Brenner and Kaleb Votaw all posted 41 in the victory.

Salem was led by Tanner James’ round of 45. Anthony Colian scored a 46, while teammates Scott Colian contributed a 47 and Sam Bricker finished the day shooting 51.

West Branch heads to Carroll Meadows on Wednesday to take on Carrolton. Salem returns to action Thursday taking on Brookfield at Salem Hills.

WEST BRANCH STANDS TALL IN RIVALRY GAME

SALEM OH- West Branch delivered an emphatic performance as they triumphed over their arch-rival Salem in a decisive three-set victory, with set scores of 25-11, 25-15, and 25-19. This impressive win not only secured bragging rights but also bolstered the team’s overall record to 8-4, with an impressive 4-1 standing in the EBC.

Key players from West Branch showcased their talents on the court, contributing significantly to the team’s success. Addison Craven led the charge with a stellar performance, accumulating 12 points and delivering six aces, making her presence felt during crucial moments of the match.

Isabel Martig was another standout player, adding 11 points and three aces, showing her proficiency in serving and contributing to West Branch’s momentum. Both Kendelle Hoopes and Martig played pivotal roles in setting up plays, with each recording 10 assists.

Mikalyn Fitts proved to be a force at the net, tallying nine kills, while Kendyll Kaley added eight kills, showcasing their offensive prowess. Ragan Greeneisen emerged as the defensive leader for the Warriors, playing a crucial role in maintaining their dominance throughout the match.

The victory not only solidified West Branch’s position as a formidable force but also provided a satisfying win against their rival Salem. With this impressive performance, West Branch continues to build on their successful season, poised for further accomplishments in the competitive EBC.

SALEM STRUGGLES TO FIND FOOTING

CANTON OH- Salem faced a challenging road game and struggled to find their footing against Canton Central Catholic, ultimately falling by a score of 34-3. The first quarter saw Canton Central take an early lead, with Brennan Betz breaking through for a 30-yard touchdown run, followed by Dan Boron’s 1-yard TD run. While the extra point was missed, Canton Central had a 13-0 advantage. In the second quarter, Blaize Bunner added to the lead with a 6-yard TD run, making it 20-0 at halftime.

Salem managed to get on the scoreboard in the third quarter when Troy Gibson booted a 37-yard field goal, closing the gap to 20-3. However, Canton Central responded with authority as Daniel Boron scored another TD, this time from 9 yards out, extending their lead to 27-3. In the fourth quarter, Canton Central sealed the victory with Brennan Betz connecting with James Kane for an 18-yard TD pass, making it a final score of 34-3 in favor of Canton Central Catholic.

Despite the challenges on the road, Salem fought valiantly but ultimately couldn’t overcome Canton Central’s strong performance.

MOONEY PICKS UP SECOND WIN IN AS MANY NIGHTS

YOUNGSTOWN OH- In an electrifying volleyball showdown, Mooney emerged victorious, showcasing their resilience and determination as they secured a hard-fought win over Salem in four sets. The scores tell the tale of an intense battle: 25-14, 25-23, 19-25, and an exhilarating 27-25 to seal the victory.

Amarra Anderson took center stage for Mooney, delivering a stellar performance with 15 kills and 7 digs. Her ability to put the ball away at crucial moments and contribute defensively proved instrumental in Mooney’s success.

Jaida Lane showcased her prowess at the net with 14 kills and an impressive 5 blocks, leaving Salem’s attackers with a formidable obstacle to overcome. Her combination of offense and defense was a driving force behind Mooney’s performance.

Brinkley Bair displayed her versatility with 10 kills and 13 digs, proving to be a key player in both the offensive and defensive aspects of the game. Her ability to transition seamlessly between roles was a valuable asset.

Natalie Blasko orchestrated the offense with precision, accumulating a staggering 40 assists. Her ability to distribute the ball effectively allowed her teammates to shine, and her defensive contributions were equally impressive, amassing 15 crucial digs.

Maria Pecchia showcased her prowess in the backline with 20 digs, ensuring that Mooney’s defense remained solid throughout the match. Nina Santisi added to the defensive effort with 14 digs and 2 blocks, while Katie Frommelt contributed with 12 digs, emphasizing the team’s commitment to preventing points on the opposing side.

CANFIELD LETS LOOSE ON THE QUAKERS

CANFIELD OH- In an impressive display of skill and teamwork, the Canfield girls’ soccer team continued their winning streak, advancing to 4-0-0 with a resounding 4-1 victory over Salem.

Maci Toporcer shone brightly, netting a remarkable hat-trick, while Lorieona Jannone contributed a goal of her own. The Canfield players showcased their excellent cohesion, with Lexi Toporcer and Vivian Nohra providing crucial assists that facilitated the scoring. Despite their efforts,

Salem managed to find the back of the net through Rylee Hutton’s goal. Canfield’s defensive prowess was highlighted by goalie Lolo Padgett, who made a vital save to maintain their lead. Salem’s goalkeeper, Kaylee Carlisle, put up a valiant effort, making 11 saves throughout the match.

The statistics revealed Canfield’s dominance, as they outshot Salem by an impressive margin of 21 to 2. This victory was a testament to Canfield’s skill, teamwork, and determination on the field.

CAMDEN SAMPSON; DEFENSIVE DYNAMO

SALEM OH- Salem High School’s senior soccer standout, Camden Sampson, holds a pivotal role as a captain and versatile player on the field. Operating in the midfield and defender positions, Sampson’s impact is felt throughout the team’s dynamics and performance.

Renowned for his exceptional defensive prowess, Sampson played a crucial role in anchoring the Salem defense during the previous season. His efforts contributed significantly to the team’s impressive record, with a defense that yielded merely one goal per game and secured five shutouts. Sampson’s commitment to the backline demonstrates his understanding of the importance of resilience and teamwork in achieving collective success.

What truly fuels Sampson’s passion for the game is the sense of unity and coordination on defense. His favorite aspect of the team revolves around the synchronicity achieved while defending together, exemplifying his dedication to a cohesive defensive strategy that leaves opponents struggling to breach the backline.

Beyond the soccer field, Sampson showcases his talents on Salem’s basketball team, further underscoring his athleticism and versatility as a multi-sport athlete.

As his high school journey draws to a close, Sampson’s aspirations continue to grow. Eager to extend his athletic career, he aims to take his skills to the college level, where his defensive prowess and leadership qualities are sure to make a significant impact once again.
