STRUTHERS FINDS THEIR FIRST NE8 WIN

STRUTHERS OH- In a notable turnaround for Struthers, they shifted their basketball approach in recent weeks, and on Thursday, it translated into a significant victory. Facing a tough opponent in South Range, Struthers showcased a complete team effort, securing a 47-39 win.

Emma Morris led the scoring charge for Struthers with an impressive 14 points, complemented by Gianna Martin and Ava Croyle each contributing 9 points, and Natalie Adams adding 7 points.

On the South Range side, Maddie Dado led the scoring effort with 9 points, while Sydney Penick and Devin Sauerwein chipped in with 8 and 7 points, respectively.

With this newfound momentum, Struthers (4-11) looks to carry it into their next matchup on Monday at home against Hubbard. South Range (6-9) aims to bounce back on Saturday as they host Edgewood, seeking to regroup and return to the winning column.

GIRARD OH- In the second round of NE8 play, South Range displayed their prowess on Tuesday, securing a commanding 63-39 victory against Girard on the road.

Leading the charge for South Range, Landon Moore contributed an impressive 19 points, supported by Luke Rohan with 14 points, and Dylan Turvey and Nate Lewis chipping in with 9 and 8 points, respectively.

On the Girard side, Kaiden Clare led the scoring efforts with 12 points, accompanied by Stephen Sims with 8 points and Ahmad Curd contributing 5 points.

With this win, South Range (8-4) maintains their strong season and looks forward to their next challenge at home against Struthers on Friday. Girard (1-12) aims to regroup and find success as they head to Poland on Friday in pursuit of positive momentum.

RAIDERS FIND SMOOTHER WATERS IN LIBERTY

LIBERTY OH- After a challenging loss to Girard, South Range wasted no time getting back in the win column with a decisive 46-27 victory against Liberty on Monday.

The offensive charge was led by Devin Sauerwein, who poured in 16 points, supported by Maddie Dado’s 12 points. Gwen Lowry and Sydney Penick contributed 7 and 6 points, respectively, showcasing a well-rounded scoring effort from South Range.

On the Liberty side, Mia Parker led the charge with an impressive 15 points, with Mia Benjamin adding 8 points to the tally.

With this win, South Range improved to a 6-8 record, demonstrating resilience after setbacks. Looking ahead, they’ll return to league play on Thursday, facing off against Struthers. Liberty, currently standing at 1-12, aims to build on their performance as they head to Brookfield on Thursday in pursuit of continued improvement.

BOARDMAN KEEPS EYES ON THE PRIZE

BOARDMAN, OH- In an action-packed showdown, the Boardman girls’ basketball team showcased their depth on the court, securing a convincing 64-46 victory over the Warren Harding Raiders. The Spartans, determined to bounce back, delivered an impressive performance in a physical game that saw them dominate the second half and seal an 18-point win.

Leading the charge for Boardman was Samantha Duble, who lit up the scoreboard with a game-high 18 points, including four three-pointers. Duble’s sharpshooting prowess was complemented by her tenacious rebounding, securing six boards for the team. Sarah Bero continued to impress, notching another double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds, marking her fourth of the season.

Mikayla Rivera made a significant impact off the bench, achieving a career-high in varsity play with 13 points. Mackenzie Riccitelli added 11 points to the tally and showcased her defensive skills by leading the team with four steals. Ava Freeborough contributed five points and led the team in assists with three, while Tori Strines rounded out the scoring with two points and pulled down five rebounds.

The depth of the Spartans’ roster was on full display, with players like Amira Mousa, Jocelynn Torres, Janessa Prisby, Ava Gaps, Olivia Combis, Emma Terlesky, and Lilly Ison all making valuable contributions during their time on the court.

INDIANS CAN NOW LOOK TO POLAND

CANFIELD OH- In a pivotal matchup that Girard needed to win to stay in first place, the Indians secured a road victory against South Range with a final score of 43-32.

Mackenzie White led Girard’s charge with an impressive 16 points, closely followed by Mia Malito contributing 15 points, and Ally Gassman adding 6 points.

South Range, despite Gwen Lowry’s 15-point effort, faced challenges as six other Raiders scored 4 points or less. The win propelled Girard to a 6-6 record, setting the stage for their upcoming home game against Poland on Thursday. On the other side, South Range (5-8) looks to bounce back on the road against Liberty next Monday.

RAIDERS FINDING THEIR FORM

CANFIELD OH- South Range rebounded impressively on Tuesday, bouncing back from their previous defeat to Poland with a commanding 71-36 victory over Niles. The Raiders showcased their offensive prowess, leaving little room for Niles to counter.

Luke Rohan led the scoring onslaught for South Range, delivering a stellar performance with 25 points, including seven three-pointers. Dylan Turvey contributed 11 points, while Landon Moore, Nate Lewis, and Matt Singleton each added valuable points to secure the decisive win.

Niles, facing a tough challenge, had Stef Dorsey as their leading scorer with 10 points, closely followed by Anthony Budak contributing 7 points.

With this victory, South Range improves to a 7-4 record and enjoys a week off before their road matchup with Girard next Tuesday. On the other side, Niles (2-9) aims to bounce back as they face Girard on Friday in their upcoming contest.

RAIDERS CONTINUE GETTING HOT

NILES OH- South Range continued their winning streak with a convincing 50-21 victory over Niles on Monday night, securing their third consecutive triumph.

Gwen Lowry delivered a stellar performance with a career-high 23 points, leading the charge for South Range. Sophia Lucente contributed 10 points, and Sydney Penick added 5 points to solidify the team’s success.

Niles faced a tough challenge, with Kherington Stanford as their leading scorer with 10 points.

Looking ahead, South Range (5-7) aims to extend their winning streak to four games when they host Girard on Saturday. Meanwhile, Niles (5-7) is set to face Girard next on their schedule, hosting the Indians on Thursday as they seek to rebound from the defeat.

BULLDOGS BACK RANGE INTO A CORNER

POLAND, OH- In a highly anticipated Northeast-8 clash, the Poland Bulldogs boys’ basketball team faced off against the South Range Raiders, both vying for the top spot in the league. The Bulldogs, with an unblemished record in the NE8, knew they were in for a tough challenge from the Raiders.

Despite the Raiders giving their best shot both figuratively and literally, the Bulldogs secured a 61-49 victory, maintaining their dominance in the league with a 5-0 mark and improving their overall season record to 7-2.

Tied at 26-26 at halftime, the Bulldogs made crucial adjustments in the second half, finding their shooting rhythm and tightening their defense on Landon Moore who finished with .

Despite the Raiders’ efforts to cut the deficit, Poland maintained control in the final quarter, securing the 12-point victory. Coach Carden acknowledged the Bulldogs’ physicality and rebounding prowess, highlighting the challenges his team faced.

The Raiders now look ahead to a crucial NE8 matchup against the Niles Red Dragons on Tuesday.

As for the Bulldogs, they continue their journey with a non-conference game against Howland on Tuesday, aiming to extend their success in the quest for league glory.

LOWRY AND THE RAIDERS LEAVE POLAND LOOKING FOR ANSWERS

CANFIELD OH- In a thrilling NE8 matchup on Thursday, South Range continued their momentum from a dramatic win over Springfield, securing a significant 45-41 victory against NE8 leader Poland. The Raiders utilized a crucial 15-5 run in the second quarter to establish a lead, and despite Poland’s second-half rallies, South Range made pivotal plays when it mattered most, clinching only their second win in 11 NE8 matchups against Poland since the 2018-2019 season.

Gwen Lowry played a pivotal role for South Range, delivering an outstanding double-double performance with 20 points and 12 rebounds. This performance tied her for the most points scored by a Raider against Poland in NE8 play, matching Izzy Lamparty’s 20 point performance in 2021.

Devin Sauerwein contributed 10 points, and Sydney Penick added 5 points to the Raiders’ scoring effort.

Poland, led by Mary Brant with 17 points and Leanne Williams with 10 points, showcased a competitive effort, with five other Bulldogs contributing to the stat sheet.

With this impressive upset, South Range improves to a 4-7 record and will carry the momentum into their upcoming league game against Niles on Monday. Poland, now standing at 6-4, will face a non-conference matchup against Crestview on Saturday at 12:30.

AUSTINTOWN OH- Facing a formidable test on the road, South Range entered the nest of Austintown Fitch for what turned out to be another hard-fought battle. In a game that remained close throughout, the Raiders managed to secure a victory in a tight 63-61 contest on Saturday.

Landon Moore emerged as a scoring force for South Range, delivering an outstanding 34-point performance that played a pivotal role in the team’s success. Luke Rohan added 15 points, contributing to the Raiders’ offensive output.

For Austintown Fitch, the duo of DeShawn Vaughn and Marcel Finkley each scored 16 points, showcasing their offensive prowess. Despite a valiant effort, Fitch found themselves on the wrong side of a possession game that could have gone either way.

South Range’s resilience and ability to navigate tough contests have become a hallmark of their recent seasons, and this win adds to a series of hard-earned victories.
