CRESTVIEW COLLECTS ANOTHER MVAC CHAMPIONSHIP

GARRETSVILLE OH- James A. Garfield Highschool played host to the Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference’s (MVAC) Gray Division championship. The Rebels went into the contest undefeated in conference play, while Garfield’s only conference loss came back on the September 8th meeting with The Lady Rebels. The Lady G-Men were feeling the crowd, as they came out in Set 1 swinging. The two teams drew even at various times in the first set; however, an 8-0 run by Crestview sealed the Set 1 win!

Garrettsville, not being wavered by defeat, grabbed an early advantage on The Lady Rebels. A lead they would end up holding for over half of the second set. The same challenges arose for The G-Men, as Crestview grabbed the momentum late, and rode it to a Rebels victory to go up in sets 2-0! A trilogy with the same script was written, as another back and forth battle in Set 3 ended on the wrong end for Garfield, clinching another conference championship for Crestview!

The win is the 65th consecutive conference match win for The Lady Rebels, as they continue their undefeated streak in conference matches (13-0) and sets (51-0). Crestview (17-0) will now meet their final conference opponent, in their second matchup with LaBrae (11-6) as The Vikings visit Garfield on Thursday, October 6th. The Lady G-Men will also be in action on Thursday, as Garfield (13-5) welcomes Brookfield (6-11) to wrap up conference play.

Congratulations to The Crestview Lady Rebels, The 2022 MVAC Gray Division Champions!

EMCH BY EMCH

COLUMBIANA OH- The name Emch rings loud in the tradition of Crestview Volleyball. Over the last decade there’s a good bet you’d find someone named Emch patrolling the net for Coach Auer’s Rebels.  If opponents thought they were done with the name, they would be sorely mistaken. Last season Abbey Emch entered the scene, and instantly showed everyone exactly what a life of learning from older Emch’s made someone capable of. Now, after a year of experience Abbey strides into her sophomore season as one of the best players in the area. No arguments.

The numbers don’t lie when you check out Abbey’s stats on the season. Emch holds the team lead in kills with 271. Leading the team in kills is particularly impressive as a middle blocker. In most programs outside hitters get set a lot more than middles. It’s extremely tough to set a middle blocker if you’re not in system, and the fact that Emch is not only a statement about her, but also the defense behind her that makes it easy for the Rebels setters to get her the ball.  Emch is also hitting efficiently coming in to the day with a hitting percentage of .488.  Hitting percentage is calculated by subtracting errors from kills, and putting them over total attacks. Emch leads the team in attacks with 455 and has only committed 49 errors on the year.  Emch brings an awesome net presence as well on defense. She has the team lead by far with 56 of the teams 85 blocks.

Emch was able to take the time to join Anthony Hartwig this week for a sit down, and look inside her sophomore season. They also discuss what made coming into this program so easy, what other positions she’d like to play, and much more. Check out the latest Crestview volleyball Player Profile only on YSN!

ALL THE AUERS IN A DAY

COLUMBIANA OH- Crestview volleyball is the last remaining undefeated volleyball team in the YSN family, and a huge reason why is Grace Auer. Grace has found a way to put her hands in every state category the game has to offer. Auer is one of the most dynamic players that you’ll find in the area. She has put together multiple triple doubles in her career. When she’s in the back row she sets the offense up with precision. When she’s in the front row, she can swing with enough power to put a ball through a brick wall.

Alisha Auer as head coach, Grace Auer as a statistical leader, and now Lainy Auer as a new shiny tool in the chest, Crestview has plenty of AUERS in a day to beat you. Looking at Grace’s numbers this season you’ll see what we are talking about. Grace is currently sitting second on the team in kills with 215. She averages 4.1 kills per set.  Then you flip the page to her assist numbers and you’ll see she leads the team with 279 assists, and averages 5.4 per set.  Then, if you take a look at her dig numbers you’ll find she’s first on the team with 203 averaging 3.9 per set.

Grace took the time to join Anthony Hartwig and talk about her fantastic career. They discuss what makes this Rebels program so special, her family connections, and so much more. Check out the latest Crestview Player Profile only on YSN!

They put up 8 goals to lead 8-0 at the break. Both teams added a goal in the second half.

NOVAK HAT TRICK DOES THE JOB

NEWTON FALLS OH- Newton Falls and Crestview we’re one of the only soccer teams in the area to get a game in on Wednesday night. With severe weather in most forecasts, teams across the coverage map canceled their games. There was a window of clear skies in Newton Falls. The goal was clear for Crestview as they shutout the previously undefeated Tigers 3-0.

Nick Novak got all three goals for Crestview. His first came in the 21:25 mark of the first half to give the Rebels the lead. With 1:52 left before the break he would knock in his second of the night. Novak would drill his third goal at the 21:30 mark of the second half.

Crestview returns to the field on Monday as they host Mineral Ridge.
