CRESTVIEW FOOTBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP. 2) WITH PAUL CUSICK

COLUMBIANA, OH – Coming off a very hard fought road test against United, head coach Paul Cusick and the Crestview Rebels are looking to “right the ship” as MVAC play begins this week. The Rebels battled up until the final whistle but came up a little short 28-21. Up next for Crestview will be a home contest with MVAC foe, the Campbell Memorial Red Devils, on Friday night.

YSN’s own, DJ Yokley, was able to sit down with Coach Cusick this week to discuss the week three match up with United, what he and his staff took away from that game, and what the Rebs need to do on Friday night to come away with a victory and start 1-0 in the MVAC.

REBELS CONTINUE THEIR DOMINANCE

CAMPBELL OH- Crestview has been a dominant volleyball team all season long, and that did not change in Tuesday’s match with Campbell. The Rebels easily swept away the Red Devils. (25-7 25-7 25-15)

Grace Auer, and Lucy Montgomery both led the balanced Rebels offense with 9 kills apiece. Auer added 11 asssusts, while Montgomery added 7. Abbey Emch continued to impress in her freshman campaign. She totaled 5 kills, and 4 blocks.

Crestview stays inside the MVAC Thursday as they travel to Garfield. Campbell returns to action Wednesday as they travel to East.

REBELS INVADE BOARDMAN, SWEEP SPARTANS

BOARDMAN OH- The Crestview Rebels may have opened some eyes around division 3 volleyball by going on the road and dominating a division 1 program in Boardman. (25-10 25-21 25-17

The Rebels had two separate players earn at least a double doubles as Grace Auer gathered 13 kills, and 15 assists. Lucy Montgomery also got herself a triple double with 10 kills and 12 assists, and 11 digs. Abbey Emch was also in double figures faith kills finishing with 10. She also went up and got 3 blocks. Kendra Greaves led the defense with 15 digs.

Crestview remains unbeaten on the season and will return to conference play on Tuesday traveling to Campbell.

UNITED TAKES THRILLER FROM REBELS

HANOVERTON OH- United found themselves in a back and forth affair on Friday night against Crestview, but they would be able to come out on top 28-21.

Grant Knight had a big game for United as he ran for 79 yards on 10 carries and scored a touchdown on the ground. He also went 6/10 through the air with 52 yards and a touchdown. Ward Kiko led the Eagles on the ground running for 106 yards on just 8 carries. That averages out to 13.3 yards per touch. Kiko also found the endzone on the day.

Roclen Bettura ran for 84 yards on 14 carries for Crestview and a touchdown. Anthony Cusick ran for 48 yards and two touchdowns. Cusick also went 15/23 through the air with 132 yards.

Both teams will begin their conference season next week as United will host Valley Christian, and Crestview will host Campbell.

HORNETS STING UNITED

CANTON OH- It was a late touchdown in a low scoring game that gave East Canton the win over United 13-7. Chase Vacco was the one that played hero for the Hornets with just under 5 minutes to go in the game.

Grant Knight punched in United’s lone touchdown in the fourth quarter. It was a game tying one yard push. United struggled to move the ball all night. They only mustered up 137 total yards. 93 of those yards came on the ground. Ward Kiko led their ground attack with 43 yards.

United will look to bounce back in Week 3 as they host Crestview.

REBELS RUN AWAY FROM SOUTHERN

SALINEVILLE OH- Crestview was coming off of a tough Week 1 loss to Salem, and were looking to bounce back Friday night. It took a minute for the Rebels to find a rhythm, but eventually the offense kicked into gear and earned a 28-6 victory over Southern.

The two teams were scoreless at halftime, but the Rebels rode on the back of Roclen Bettura who ran for 103 yards in the second half. He scored touchdowns, one on the ground, and one in the reception category. Anthony Cusick also had a great second half, he threw three touchdowns to three different receivers. Bettura caught one, Jack Yerkey, and Matthew Strank caught touchdowns as well.

Crestview continues their season next week as they travel to United. Southern hosts East Canton.

COLUMBIANA, OH – Head coach Paul Cusick and the Crestview Rebels are eager to get back on the football field in week two following a hard-fought battle against the Salem Quakers last week. The Rebels battled hard but came up a little short 38-13. Up next for Crestview will be a road contest with former ITCL foe, the Southern Indians, on Friday night.

CRESTVIEW KEEPS IT CLEAN WITH SWEEP OF FLASHES

COLUMBIANA OH- Crestview maintained their dominance in the MVAC on Thursday as they quickly dispatched Champion in straight sets. (25-5 25-4 25-9)

Lucy Montgomery led the Rebels offense gathering 9 kills, she also finished with 11 kills. Grace Auer had a great night too, she finished with 7 kills, and 10 assists. Shelby Rambo would not be out done, she also gathered 7 kills. Abbey Emch finished with 6 kills. Kendra Greaves led the defense with 7 digs.

Crestview returns to action Saturday traveling to East Liverpool.

CRESTVIEW KEEPS THE PRESSURE ON LEOPARDS

LIBERTY OH- Crestview came in to Liberty on Tuesday night and had no trouble with the Leopards. They quickly won the match in three sets. (25-9 25-8 25-14).

Lucy Montgomery led the Rebels with 8 kills and 8 assists, she also served up 2 aces, and collected 9 digs. Grace Auer led in assists with 12, she also grabbed 7 kills, and 9 digs. Shelby Rambo contributed 67 kills on the night, and 3 blocks. Abbie Emch led the team in blocks with 4. She also had 4 kills.

The Rebels return to action Thursday as they host Champion.

REBELS SWEEP LAKEVIEW TO OPEN NEW SEASON

COLUMBIANA OH- It was a highly anticipated match up between two dominant program to open the volleyball season Saturday morning as Crestview hosted Lakeview. The Rebels swept the match in straight sets winning all three in thrilling fashion (25-22 25-22 25-22).

Grace Auer led a balanced Rebel offense with 9 kills, and also set up 14 assists. Lucy Montgomery finished with 8 kills, and 18 assists. Freshman Abbey Emch had a heck of a debut grabbing 8 kills and 5 blocks. Shelby Rambo also collected 8 kills, and she added 2 blocks. Kendra Greaves led the Rebels in digs with 18.

For Lakeview Tara Lytle had a match high 13 kills. She also contributed 2 blocks. Emma Schmader finished with 9 kills. Maggie Pavlansky set up the Bulldogs offense finishing with 18 assists. Maddie Bayus led the Bulldogs defense collecting 10 digs.

Crestview returns to action Tuesday as they travel to Liberty. Lakeview jumps into NE8 play as they travel to Girard on Tuesday.
