SALEM ESCAPES THE REBELS WITH LATE SCORES

SALEM OH- The Salem offense was held in check for nearly 3.5 quarters, before a field goal and a 4th quarter touchdown pass put the game out of reach; with the Quakers pulling out a tough 17-7 victory over Crestview.

Jackson Johnson connected with Caden Swiger for a 29-yard touchdown pass on a 4th down to finish off Crestview with less than 2 minutes left to go, making it 17-7.
Salem’s only other touchdown came on a 75-yard fumble recovery for a touchdown by Ross Davidson in the 2nd quarter.
Salem moves to 1-0 on the season and will travel to Beaver Local next week to take on the Beavers.

LEOPARDS POUNCE ON SALEM EARLY

LOUISVILLE, OH- They say it’s not how you start, but how you finish.  Monday proved otherwise as Louisville started out with a two out rally in the first inning, scored two, and that’s all they would need to defeat Salem 2-1 in the District Semifinals.

Louisville scored on a single by Cole Miller and a single by Caleb Miller in the first inning.

Anthony Warner was the winning pitcher for Louisville. The hurler went seven innings, allowing one run on three hits, striking out eight and walking one.

Carson Rhodes took the tough luck loss for Salem. The pitcher surrendered two runs on seven hits over seven innings, striking out eight.

Darius Beck led Salem with two hits in three at bats.

Louisville had seven hits in the game. Miller and Conner Adelman all had multiple hits for Louisville.

The Leopards will face Marlington on Wednesday at 5.  Salem’s season comes to a close at 18-8.

BECK IS WHERE IT’S AT

SALEM, OH- The longtime Quaker Backstop for the Salem baseball team is entering his final descent in the black and red uniform, but it’s not one he’s going to give up without a fight.

Darius Beck is the tenured leader of this squad from behind the dish.  The ultimate communicator, he’s the first and last line of defense for Mike DeBarr’s Quaker 9, and he’s been every bit as entertaining to watch as he’s been a nightmare for opposing lineups.  Beck possesses the lost art of showmanship a catcher must have to complete their job.  An ambassador of the umpires, a salesman at times for his pitching staff, as well as an agitator on offense.

Beck is dynamic in so many ways, which makes it even more of a challenge to shut him out of a game plan.

DB has also great self-awareness in the sense that he knows what he brings to the table.  He knows opposing coaches need to stop him- and he also knows they can’t.

We caught up with the Quaker Catcher to talk about his ride to this point, what’s ahead, and so much more.

So grab two turntables and a microphone and enjoy this week’s Salem Baseball Player Profile: Beck is Where It’s At!
