SALEM DEFENSE PROPELS THEM FORWARD

SALEM OH- Salem’s boys’ soccer team took a decisive step forward in the tournament, securing a hard-fought win against Alliance. The final score stood at Salem 2, Alliance 0, as Salem’s players displayed their prowess on the pitch.

Troy Gibson and Jake Davis were the heroes of the evening, scoring the crucial goals for Salem. Gibson’s impact extended beyond his goal-scoring prowess as he also provided an assist, underlining his invaluable role in the team’s success.

Salem’s strong defensive performance proved instrumental in holding Alliance scoreless throughout the match. The unyielding efforts of the entire team on the defensive end were showcased, and it all culminated in a standout performance by Colin Riesen in goal, who made one save to preserve Salem’s clean sheet.

With this victory, Salem advances to the next round of the tournament, setting up a highly anticipated match. They will take to the field on Saturday at Marlington, with a 4:00 PM kickoff.

SALEM SEES THEIR SEASON REACH AN END IN ALLIANCE

ALLIANCE OH- In a hard-fought sectional match, Salem’s girls’ soccer season reached its conclusion as they faced off against their Eastern Buckeye Conference (EBC) rival, Alliance. While the game was marked by physicality and intense competition, Salem displayed tremendous resilience throughout the encounter.

Salem’s lone goal of the match was a testament to the skill and determination of one of their standout players, Rylee Hutton As she found the back of the net, Rylie not only contributed to her team’s performance but also etched her name in the record books.

Hutton, a name synonymous with goal-scoring excellence, brought her illustrious career to a close in this match. Her 127 career goals exemplify her extraordinary talent as a striker. Impressively, 34 of those goals were tallied in the current season, underlining her consistency and scoring prowess.

What sets Rylee apart is her ability to shine in critical moments. She notched an impressive 7 game-winning goals throughout her career, highlighting her capacity to make the difference when her team needed it the most. Moreover, Rylee’s  impressive record includes an astounding 21 hat tricks, showcasing her remarkable ability to dominate matches by scoring three or more goals.

 

SALEM CAN’T OVERCOME DUKES STRONG START

SALEM OH- In an intense battle on the gridiron, Marlington managed to secure a hard-fought 37-20 victory over Salem. The contest was marked by some impressive plays on both sides, but it was Marlington’s consistency that ultimately made the difference.

Marlington set the tone early in the game, with Beau Himmelheber connecting with Koby Vance for a 19-yard touchdown pass. David Hoebeke’s extra point was good, giving Marlington a 7-0 lead.

Continuing their momentum, Marlington added another touchdown when Himmelheber found Vance again, this time on a 7-yard pass. Hoebeke’s successful extra point extended Marlington’s lead to 14-0.

Marlington didn’t let up in the second quarter, as Himmelheber showcased his versatility with a 29-yard touchdown run. Hoebeke’s extra point was good, increasing Marlington’s lead to 21-0.

Shortly before halftime, Himmelheber contributed another touchdown, this time with a 9-yard run. Despite a missed extra point, Marlington held a commanding 27-0 lead at the break.

Salem fought back in the third quarter, with Gavin Colbert connecting with Will Harmon on a 10-yard touchdown pass. Troy Gibson’s extra point was good, bringing Salem’s score to 7. Marlington still led 27-7.

However, Marlington answered right back with another touchdown, as Himmelheber recorded a 7-yard run. Hoebeke’s extra point extended Marlington’s lead to 34-7.

Salem wasn’t ready to concede, and they responded with a 70-yard touchdown pass from Colbert to Marcus Phillips. Despite a missed extra point, Salem narrowed the gap to 34-13.

In the final quarter, Marlington added to their lead with a 22-yard field goal by David Hoebeke, bringing the score to 37-13.

Salem managed to secure another touchdown before the game’s end, as Marcus Phillips ran for a 1-yard score. Troy Gibson’s extra point was good, concluding the game with a score of 37-20 in favor of Marlington.

HUTTON CALLS GAME IN THE FINAL MINUTES

SALEM OH- On a sunny Saturday afternoon, the Salem Girls Soccer team made a triumphant return to Sebo Stadium, where they battled fiercely against the Chagrin Falls Tigers and emerged victorious with a hard-fought score of 2-1.

Rylee Hutton was the hero of the day, providing the offensive spark that the Lady Quakers needed to secure the win. Hutton showcased her scoring prowess by netting both of Salem’s goals in this closely contested matchup. Her first goal injected an early burst of energy into the team and its fans.

The story of the day, however, wasn’t just about offense. In the heat of the battle, Kaylee Carlisle proved to be an invaluable asset in the Quakers’ defense, making an impressive 13 crucial saves throughout the game. Carlisle’s resilience between the posts played a pivotal role in preserving Salem’s lead.

As the clock ticked down, tension filled the air. It wasn’t until a mere 1 minute and 35 seconds remained on the game clock that Rylee Hutton stepped up once again to seal the victory with her second goal. The collective relief and jubilation of the team and its supporters were palpable.

With this hard-fought win, the Lady Quakers improved their season record to a commendable 7-6-2. As they approach the end of the regular season, they eagerly anticipate their upcoming annual Kick for a Cure match against Beaver Local. Salem’s determined performance against Chagrin Falls serves as a testament to their resilience and their unwavering commitment to the game they love.

SALEM FALLS AFTER VALIANT EFFORT ON THE ROAD

CARROLLTON OH- In a hard-fought road matchup, the Salem Quakers battled against the Carrollton Warriors but ultimately came up short, with Carrollton securing a 21-7 victory.

The first half of the game was marked by tough defensive play, with neither team managing to find the end zone. However, things changed early in the second quarter when Carrollton’s Ryan Kiko broke the deadlock with a 5-yard rushing touchdown. Quentin Rosenberger’s successful extra point gave Carrollton a 7-0 lead.

Carrollton continued to build on their lead in the third quarter. With 5:49 on the clock, Jacob Whitmore powered through the Salem defense with a 2-yard rushing touchdown. Rosenberger’s extra point was good, extending Carrollton’s lead to 14-0.

In the fourth quarter, Carrollton further solidified their advantage. At 9:17, Jacob Whitmore displayed his versatility, connecting with Braylon Murphy on a 26-yard passing touchdown. Rosenberger’s extra point was once again on target, making it 21-0 in favor of Carrollton.

Salem demonstrated their resilience late in the fourth quarter, as Gavin Colbert found the end zone with a 3-yard rushing touchdown. Troy Gibson’s successful extra point brought the score to 21-7.

Despite their efforts, Salem couldn’t complete the comeback, and the game concluded with Carrollton emerging victorious with a final score of 21-7.

CARDINALS LIVE FOR THE WEEKEND

SALEM OH- In a commanding display of skill and teamwork, the Canfield boys’ soccer team triumphed over Salem with an impressive 7-0 victory that showcased their dominance on the field.

The Canfield offense was firing on all cylinders, with multiple players finding the back of the net. Leading the charge was Drew Snyder, who had an outstanding performance with four goals, leaving the Salem defense struggling to contain his relentless attacks. Andrew Battaglia contributed significantly with two well-placed goals, while Ethan Mulichak added another to the tally.

The Canfield players demonstrated their unselfish play by racking up assists as well. Drew Snyder and Ethan Mulichak each provided two crucial assists, showcasing their ability to create scoring opportunities for their teammates. Andrew Battaglia added one more assist to the mix, highlighting the team’s overall offensive cohesion.

Defensively, Canfield was rock-solid, limiting Salem’s scoring chances and allowing only a handful of shots on goal. Goalkeepers Cam Shaffer and Rocco Catheline combined for five saves, showcasing their prowess in protecting their net.

With this impressive win, Canfield improved their season record to an outstanding 9-1-3, a testament to their skill and determination on the field. Their next challenge awaits as they prepare to host Howland on Tuesday at 7:00 PM. Canfield fans can anticipate more exciting soccer action and a team that continues to set the bar high in their pursuit of success.

QUAKERS FIND FIRST WIN OF THE SEASON

MINERVA, OH- In an Eastern Buckeye Conference showdown, Salem secured their first win of the season in style, defeating Minerva with a dominant score of 36-7, and sophomore quarterback Gavin Colbert made a memorable impact in his first start under center.

Colbert showcased his talent by throwing three touchdown passes during the first three quarters, helping the Quakers clinch the victory at Hines Stadium on Friday night. This win marked Salem’s break from an eight-game losing streak, propelling them to a 1-6 overall record and a 1-1 standing in the EBC. Meanwhile, Minerva, struggling with a 26-game losing streak and an overall record of 0-7, fell to 0-2 in league play.

The Quakers opened the scoring in the game with two quick touchdowns late in the first quarter. Will Harmon was on the receiving end of a 21-yard pass from Colbert, followed by a 32-yard reverse run, pushing Salem ahead 13-0.

Salem’s defense played a pivotal role, recovering a Minerva fumble on the Lions’ first series, setting up the Quakers’ first score. The defense also demonstrated its prowess by snagging three interceptions, with Cyle Burt contributing two of them.

Marcus Phillips added to the offensive onslaught with a 14-yard touchdown reception, further extending Salem’s lead to 20-0 in the second quarter. Colbert, filling in for the injured starting quarterback Cletis Monroy, showcased his skills with 134 passing yards in the first half.

The third quarter witnessed a resolute defensive effort by Salem when Minerva threatened with a first-and-goal from the 3-yard line. The Quakers’ defense held strong, stopping Minerva at the 1-yard line on a crucial fourth-down play.

Salem continued to build on their lead, with Derek Oesch scoring on a 3-yard pass from Colbert, bringing the score to 26-0 with just over three minutes left in the third quarter.

Minerva finally found the end zone in the fourth quarter when Devon Patterson broke free for a 46-yard touchdown run up the middle, putting them on the scoreboard and crossing the 100-yard mark for the game.

Salem closed out the game with two more scores, including a 23-yard field goal by Troy Gibson and a 32-yard run by Marcus Phillips following Burt’s second interception.

As both teams return to league play next Friday, Salem will face Carrollton, while Minerva takes on Marlington.

AVIATORS FLY PAST SALEM

ALLIANCE, OH – The night was electric in Alliance as the Aviators clashed with the Salem Quakers in a highly anticipated football showdown. The Aviators were coming off a string of impressive victories, and the crowd was buzzing with excitement. Little did they know that this game would become an unforgettable chapter in the history of Alliance football.

The game kicked off with Alliance receiving the ball, and it didn’t take long for them to make their mark. Just 19 seconds into the game, Brendan Zurbrugg, the Aviators’ star quarterback, took the snap, dropped back, and then burst through a gap in the Salem defense. With incredible speed and agility, he sprinted down the field, leaving defenders in his wake. A 91-yard touchdown run set the tone for the game, and with Brendan’s successful extra point kick, Alliance took an early 7-0 lead.

The Aviators’ momentum continued to build as they dominated the first quarter. At the 7:18 mark, Brendan Zurbrugg struck again, this time with a 10-yard rushing touchdown. His extra point kick was on target, and Alliance extended their lead to 14-0.

Salem found themselves struggling to contain the Aviators’ offensive prowess. With just over four minutes left in the first quarter, Brendan Zurbrugg showcased his arm strength with a 70-yard touchdown pass to K’Vaughn Davis. Another successful extra point kick made it 21-0 in favor of Alliance.

The Quakers were desperate to get on the scoreboard, but Alliance’s defense proved to be a formidable obstacle. However, the Aviators were not finished with their scoring spree in the first half. With just over a minute remaining in the quarter, Brendan Zurbrugg delivered a 64-yard touchdown pass to Rahmir Hawkins. The extra point was good, and Alliance closed the first quarter with an astounding 28-0 lead.

As the second quarter began, the Aviators showed no signs of letting up. At the 8:26 mark, Brendan Zurbrugg connected with K’Vaughn Davis once again, this time for a 70-yard touchdown pass. The extra point was successful, and the score stretched to 35-0 in favor of Alliance.

The Aviators were firing on all cylinders, and it was time for other players to shine. Ravhan Hawkins got in on the action with a 6-yard rushing touchdown, and the extra point was good. Alliance was now leading 42-0.

The Salem Quakers were facing an uphill battle, but they didn’t give up. With just under a minute left in the second quarter, Ravhan Hawkins broke free for a 44-yard touchdown run. While the extra point attempt was no good, Alliance still held a commanding 48-0 lead.

In the third quarter, Salem managed to find the end zone. Marcus Phillips scored a 7-yard rushing touchdown, and with Troy Gibson’s successful extra point kick, the Quakers put their first points on the board, trailing 48-7.

As the game progressed, both teams fought hard, but it was Salem’s Derek Oesch who delivered a 37-yard touchdown pass to Will Harmon in the fourth quarter. With the extra point good, the final score stood at 48-14 in favor of Alliance.

The Alliance Aviators had put on a spectacular display of skill and teamwork, securing a decisive victory over the Salem Quakers. The night belonged to Brendan Zurbrugg and his teammates, who had electrified the crowd with their dazzling performance on the football field. The Alliance faithful left the stadium that night with smiles on their faces, knowing they had witnessed a truly unforgettable game.

 

PADUA SPOILS SALEM’S PLANS

SALEM OH- Salem endured a challenging battle on the football field, ultimately falling to Padua Franciscan with a final score of 39-21.

The first quarter began with a strong push from Padua as Roderick Love surged into the end zone with a 19-yard touchdown run. Padua successfully converted the two-point conversion, putting them ahead 8-0.

In the second quarter, Love continued his impressive performance, scoring another touchdown on a 20-yard run, and once again, Padua executed a successful two-point conversion, increasing their lead to 16-0. Salem responded with determination as Marcus Phillips broke through for a two-yard touchdown run, and Brayden Gibson’s extra point was good, closing the gap to 16-7. However, Padua struck back with Love’s 32-yard touchdown run, and Caleb Zolkowski’s extra point made it 23-7 in favor of Padua.

The third quarter saw Padua maintain their momentum, with Love breaking away for a 46-yard touchdown run, and Zolkowski’s successful extra point extended their lead to 30-7. Love’s incredible performance continued with a stunning 69-yard touchdown run, although the extra point attempt was no good, the score moved to 36-7 in favor of Padua.

In the final quarter, Padua added to their lead with a 30-yard field goal by Caleb Zolkowski, bringing the score to 39-7. Salem, not ready to give up, found the end zone once more with a 47-yard touchdown run by Marcus Phillips, and Gibson’s extra point made it 39-14. A late surge from Salem saw Cletis Monroy score on a nine-yard touchdown run, with Gibson converting the extra point, but it wasn’t enough to overcome Padua’s lead, resulting in a final score of 39-21 in favor of Padua Franciscan.

Salem fought hard throughout the game, showcasing their determination and resilience, but ultimately, Padua Franciscan secured the victory.
