TIGERS FEELING GOOD AT THE PLATE

NEW MIDDLETOWN OH- What a game on the softball diamond! Springfield  came out swinging and didn’t let up, taking down Sebring with a commanding 19-3 victory. Gracie Maldonado was the standout, knocking three hits in five at-bats, including some clutch singles that fueled their offense.

The Tigers roared right out of the gate, with Olivia Allen setting the tone with a double in the first to get them on the board. Sebring managed to tie it up briefly, but Springfield wasn’t having any of that. They surged ahead in the second, courtesy of hits from Vanessa Nalevanko and Maldonado.

But the real fireworks came in the fifth inning. Springfield exploded for a whopping 11 runs, with Maldonado, Hannah Stoufer, and Mariah Jones leading the charge with their timely hits. Errors from McKinley added fuel to the fire, and Springfield capitalized on every opportunity.

Caitlin Blankenship held it down on the mound for the Tigers, giving up just four hits and three runs, none of them earned, over five solid innings. Allison Hoschar did her best for Sebring, but the Tigers’ offense was just too much to handle.

Springfield piled up an impressive 15 hits overall, with Allen leading the charge with four hits of her own. Stoufer and Jones also came up big with multiple hits, while Emily Conner, Maldonado, Jones, Romeo, and Nalevanko wreaked havoc on the base paths with their stolen bases.

Sebring had some bright spots too, with players like Bella Threet and Davianna Bower contributing hits, but in the end, it was Springfield’s day to shine.

MEROLILLO’S PERFECT GAME HIGHLIGHTS RIDGE’S DOUBLEHEADER SWEEP

MINERAL RIDGE OH- Lily Merolillo struck out 11 batters as they led Mineral Ridge past Sebring 14-0 on Tuesday. Merolillo gave up zero hits and zero runs over five innings while walking none completing a perfect game in the circle.

Laney Rigley collected four hits in four at bats in the win. Rigley tripled in the third inning, doubled in the first inning, doubled in the second inning, and doubled in the fourth inning. Mineral Ridge got on the board in the first inning after Rigley doubled, scoring one run. They then scored six runs on four hits in the bottom of the second inning. Sydney Wyllie grounded out, scoring one run, Megan Haynie singled, scoring one run, Rigley doubled, scoring one run, and Maddie Gerberry doubled, scoring three runs. The Rams added one run in the third. Rigley tripled after a 6-pitch at-bat, making the score 8-0.

Mineral Ridge added to their lead and scored six runs on seven hits in the bottom of the fourth inning. Wyllie singled, scoring one run, Haynie singled, scoring two runs, Sullivan Sandy singled, scoring one run, Rigley doubled, scoring one run, and Merolillo singled, scoring one run.

The Rams accumulated 15 hits in the game. Sandy and Maggie Collins each collected multiple hits. Mineral Ridge was sure-handed and didn’t commit a single error. Aaliyah Wall made the most plays with 11.

Game 2:

Mineral Ridge completed a doubleheader sweep of Sebring defeating them 7-0 in game 2 on Tuesday thanks in part to four runs in the second inning. McKenna Barker drew a walk, scoring one run, Lily Merolillo grounded out, scoring one run, Aaliyah Wall doubled, scoring one run, and Savannah Turk drew a walk, scoring one run.

Mineral Ridge opened the scoring in the top of the first thanks to two walks. They first got on the board when Wall drew a walk, scoring one run.

Turek earned the win for the Rams. They allowed one hit and zero runs over two and one-third innings, striking out six and walking none.

Merolillo led the team with one run batted in. Sullivan Sandy and Wall each collected one hit. Mineral Ridge  had a strong eye at the plate, accumulating 10 walks for the game. Sandy, Maddie Gerberry, and Turek led the team with two bases on balls each. Sandy stole two bases. Mineral Ridge stole four bases in the game as a team.

O’BRIEN FINDS PERFECTION OUT OF THE GATES

Isabella O’Brien struck out 16 batters as the starting pitcher led past Sebring 14-0 on Monday. O’Brien gave up zero hits and zero runs over six innings while walking none, completing the perfect game.

McDonald got on the board in the top of the second inning after Marrissa Colarich doubled, scoring one run, Miley Titus grounded out, scoring one run, and Gianna Mancini doubled, scoring two runs.

McDonald added one run in the third. McDonald Varsity Blue Devils scored on a passed ball, making the score 5-0.

McDonald scored five runs on four hits in the top of the sixth inning. Bri McCombs singled, scoring two runs, an error scored two runs, and Titus drew a walk, scoring one run.

Allison Hoschar took the loss for the Trojans. The righty went six innings, surrendering 14 runs (four earned) on 10 hits, striking out six and walking two.

The Blue Devils collected 10 hits in the game. McCombs, O’Brien, Mancini, and Colarich each collected two hits. McCombs led the bats with three runs batted in. The left-handed hitter went 2-for-3 on the day.

Mancini and Lauren O Leary each stole multiple bases for McDonald. The Blue Devils stole six bases in the game.

McDonald gets back to action as they welcome Memorial on Thursday.

SOUTHERN MAKES WAVES IN ROUND ONE

SALINEVILLE OH- Southern made a statement in their tournament opener, delivering a commanding performance to roll over Sebring with a resounding 71-23 victory. From the opening tip-off, Southern set the tone for the game, showcasing their offensive firepower and defensive prowess to secure a convincing win and advance to the next round of the tournament.

Leading the charge for Southern was Ashley Shroades, who put on a scoring clinic with an impressive 27 points, showcasing her skill and versatility on the court. Alongside her, Alyssa Shroades contributed 19 points, while Makenna Jones added 14 points, further bolstering Southern’s offensive attack and demonstrating the team’s depth and balance.

Despite a valiant effort from Sebring, led by Allison Hoschar with 12 points and Reagan Wynn with 5 points, they were unable to contain Southern’s relentless assault on both ends of the court.

With this dominant victory, Southern advances to the sectional final on Saturday with their heads held high, as they prepare to host Dalton in what promises to be another thrilling matchup.

ROCKETS HAVE NO TROUBLE WITH TROJANS

In a dominant display of skill and determination, Lowellville’s basketball team cruised to victory on Thursday night, defeating Sebring decisively with a commanding score of 51-10.

Leading the scoring charge for Lowellville was Serinna Tych, who delivered an outstanding performance with 19 points, showcasing her offensive prowess and leadership on the court. Morgan Lewis contributed 7 points, while Sydney Procick and Gianna Palumbo each added 6 points, highlighting the team’s balanced scoring effort.

With this resounding win, Lowellville improves their record to 8-12 and looks to carry their momentum into their upcoming road matchup against East on Monday. The victory underscores Lowellville’s resilience and determination as they continue to push forward in the season.

On the other side, Sebring concludes their regular season with a 4-15 record and now awaits their tournament opponent, eager to make their mark in postseason play.

 

SEBRING FINDS THEIR FIRST LEAGUE WIN

MINERAL RIDGE, OH – The Rams hosted the Trojans Friday night in a matchup that didn’t fail to entertain. Both sides showed some great skill rebounding and several players shined bright in the 65-61 victory for Sebring. Without a conference win or a large fan showing, Sebring had “underdog” written all over them but the fantastic play of Kaleb Rowles, Dustin Black and Colby Kliffmueller gave the Trojans the boost they needed to get past the energetic Rams.

 

Mineral Ridge came out red hot in the first quarter scoring 11-4 in the first 5 minutes but Sebring turned on the ignition and sped back into this game with the quarter ending 19-18 in favor of Mineral Ridge. Sebring had only two players score in this frame with one being Black who put up 5 points and Kliffmueller who put up the other 13! Kliffmueller found three 2’s, two 3’s and went 1-for-2 at the line, he used his tall size of 6’4” and surprising speed to help wake up his team. Ridge showed more of a team effort on the ball with five guys adding to their total including Blake Basista who scored 5 and Chase Moore who led his team with 7 points including two made 2’s and three made free throws including an and-1.

 

Sebring continued their energetic play in the 2nd quarter with another 18 point showing to the Rams 16. Kliffmueller sat back in the scoring department with 4 points but became more of a playmaker, aiding Black in his 5 points and Rowles with his 9. Kaleb Rowles found two 2’s, a 3 and went 2-for-3 from the line all on the same trip after being fouled after taking a shot from beyond the arc. Mineral Ridge was met with better defense but that didn’t stop Derrick Hester from hitting two 3’s and Jack Geddes from going 2-for2 from the line.

 

Mineral Ridge played another tight quarter coming out of halftime but were able to outscore Sebring 15-13. Rowles continued to roll with 6 more points on the night including two 2’s and going 2-for4 from the stripe. Black and Kliffmueller both added two points and Reece Runyon joined the party with 3 after checking into the game.

 

The 4th quarter was close with both teams trading 1 point leads throughout but it would be the fouls that would be the Rams undoing as they found themselves down late and in need of a possession but with no shot clock the fouls had to come quick and early and with Black receiving the majority of the fouls, the plan didn’t work well for Ridge and Sebring scored 16 more points the Mineral Ridges 11. Black went 4-for-6 from the line while Rowles went 2-for-2 as well as adding 7 more points from the field and Joel Seals finally got on the board with a made free throw that would ultimately put this game to rest. 

 

Despite good offense and an aggressive defense the Rams just couldn’t stop the Trojans from marching into their first conference win of the season. Chase Moore of Ridge scored an impressive 20 points for his team leading by a dominant example while Colby Kliffmueller had 21, Dustin black had 15 and Kaleb Rowles found 24 points leading all scorers! Sebring (5-10, 1-7) will be back at home on January 23rd when they take on Jackson-Milton at 7:00Pm while Mineral Ridge (4-9, 2-6) have a quick turnaround when they host Niles at 7:00PM on January 20th. 

YASIN GRABS QUADRUPLE DOUBLE IN JAYS DOMINATE WIN

In a dominant display, Jackson Milton secured another MVAC win on Thursday, running away from Sebring with a commanding 59-19 victory.

The standout performance of the night came from Amani Yasin, who achieved an incredibly rare quadruple double. Yasin notched 10 points, 10 assists, 10 rebounds, and an impressive 10 steals, showcasing her exceptional all-around contribution to the team. Emma Johns also delivered a stellar performance, scoring a career-high 25 points, while Macayle Thornhill added 6 points to the scoring effort.

With this comprehensive win, Jackson Milton (8-6) looks ahead to their next challenge on Monday when they host Western Reserve. On the other side, Sebring (4-11) will be home on Monday, facing McDonald and seeking to regroup after the challenging defeat.

ROCKETS FINDING SOME GOOD VIBES

LOWELLVILLE OH- Continuing their upward trajectory, Lowellville powered through the halfway point of the season with a decisive victory over Sebring on Friday night, securing a 61-38 win.

Leading the charge for Lowellville were notable performances from Michael Ballone with 15 points, Ryan Neider contributing 13 points, and Matt Lucido adding 10 points. Josh Pazel also made his mark with 8 points. Sebring’s efforts were led by Dustin Black and Colby Kliffmueller, each scoring 14 points, and Kaleb Rowles contributing 10 points.

With a 5-5 record, Lowellville now prepares for their next challenge at home against Western Reserve on Tuesday. Sebring, standing at 3-8, looks ahead to a matchup against Leetonia on Saturday with a scheduled tip-off at 1:00.

RIDGE GETS THEIR WINS TO A DOZEN

MINERAL RIDGE OH- In a dominating performance on Thursday night, Mineral Ridge secured their twelfth win of the season with a resounding victory over Sebring, finishing 63-19.

Sullivan Sandy led the charge with 14 points, followed by Ava Hulett with 10 points, Lily Merolillo with 8 points, Samantha Aulet with 7 points, and Norah Schnieder contributing 5 points.

With a standout record of 12-1, Mineral Ridge looks forward to their next challenge as they host Columbiana on Saturday.

RIDGE RAMPAGES TO STAY PERFECT

Mineral Ridge extended their unbeaten streak on Thursday night, dominating Sebring with an emphatic 65-16 victory.

The balanced scoring effort showcased the depth of the Mineral Ridge team, with Sullivan Sandy leading the charge with 13 points. Ava Hulett and Gianna Gilbert both contributed 12 points, while Lily Merolillo added 11 points and Kelcee Dye chipped in with 7 points.
