URSULINE GIRLS SOCCER STEALS THE SPOTLIGHT

YOUNGSTOWN, OH – The Ursuline Irish Girls Soccer team is marching high through a big chunk of their regular season, starting out 9-4-1 through their first 14 matches of the season. Olivia Poghen and Amelie Weal have taken on big-time leadership roles in their final season dawning the Green and Gold.

YOUNGSTOWN, OH – The Ursuline Irish Girls Soccer team is marching high through a big chunk of their regular season, starting out 9-4-1 through their first 14 matches of the season. Olivia Puhalla and Aidan Tomhave control the midfield for the Irish, and they also take on a big leadership role.

LADY BULLDOGS LET LOOSE ON LISBON

EAST PALESTINE, OH- The East Palestine Volleyball team was able to get back over .500 on Monday night against EOAC rival Lisbon with a 25-16, 20-25, 25-9, 26-24 victory.

Mia Lee set the tone with 6 stuffs and 23 kills.  Elle Berger had 8 points, 6 kills, and an ace.  Sophia Fertsch added five kills, and Mackenzie Parker filled up the stat sheet with 19 points, 20 assists, and 3 aces.

Alexus Robb also chipped in 11 points and 4 aces in the victory.

East Palestine goes to 8-7 overall and 5-6 in the EOAC.  They’ll look to get back to even on Thursday against Valley Christian at home.

WET AND WILDCATS GET WIN OVER JEFFERSON

JEFFERSON, OH- In an EXTREMELY wet, chilling, and lightening delayed game, Struthers came out on top in a 1-0 victory over the Jefferson Falcons.

With under a minute left in play, the Lady Cats put one in thanks to a composed corner by Lorieona Jannone.

Struthers will hop back on the bus on Wednesday to take on Niles.

ORANGE TURNS ON THE JETS AGAINST PERRY

PERRY, OH- The Orange soccer team hit the road on Tuesday night when they traveled to Perry for a CVC match.  The Lions came out on fire with 10 goals in the first half giving the Lions a comfortable lead in the contest.  The Lions would go on to win the game 11-0.  See stats below:

SALEM SOCCER TO HOST YOUTH NIGHT

SALEM OH-  Salem Boys & Girls Soccer will host its annual Youth Night on Saturday August 18th when the Quakers host the United Eagles in a varsity soccer double header at Sebo Stadium.  The girls play at 5:00 pm and the boys play at 7:00 pm.

Anyone who attended the Salem Soccer youth camp and wears their shirt will be admitted for free with a paying adult.  Cost for adults is $7, cost for students is $4 and cost for senior citizens is $1 w/ a Salem Athletics Senior Citizen Pass.

FORMER MOONEY/PITT STANDOUT SIGNS PROFESSIONALLY

YOUNGSTOWN, OH- Former University of Pittsburgh and Cardinal Mooney standout soccer player, Ashley Cuba Buchta recently signed with the Fayetteville Fury of the National Indoor Soccer League.

Nine games into her professional career, Ashley already is turning heads with 17 points including 12 goals, and five assists.

During her career as a Cardinal Mooney Cardinal, Cuba was named to the 2008 NSCAA All-American Team as well as the Adidas U.S. All-Regional Team, Ohio Co-Player of the Year, Ohio Division 2 Player of the Year, First Team All-Ohio, District Player of the Year, First Team All-District, First Team All-County, and First Team SVC.

Cuba also landed 87 career goals in high school and 65 career assists.

At Pitt, Cuba scored a record 23 goals, 51 points, and 178 shots in her career.  She also set records for goals per game, shots per game, and game-winning goals in a season.

Ashley is no rookie to the professional ranks as she’s made stops in Washington, Pittsburgh, and Finland before recently signing with Fayetteville.

Congratulations to Ashley, and best of luck in all her endeavors as she continues to help represent our valley in professional sports!

LADY QUAKERS BLANK COLUMBIANA

SALEM, OH- The Lady Quakers soccer team defeated Columbiana 11-0 Monday night. Paige Bailey had two goals and an assist, as did Rylee Hutton and Abby Perry. Annie Davidson and Zoe DeLand each contributed two goals, as well. Clara Double had a goal. Mikaylynn Murphy and Bri Cibula each contributed an assist. Sam Moore recorded one save in goal.

The Lady Quakers, now 7-0-0, are back in action Wednesday night when they host EBC opponent Minerva. Kickoff will be at 7 pm.

BOARDMAN, OH- The Boardman High School Boys Soccer Team opened its 40th season of varsity soccer with a 2-1 win over Ursuline …

Freshman Sava Crnjak registered the first goal of the season and his high school career merely 4 minutes into the game off an assist from Senior Captain Jake Hughes …

After Ursuline tied the game heading into halftime, the Spartans were able to log the game-winning goal off a strike from Junior Captain Cole Congson who was assisted by Freshman Landon Mitchell …

Sophomore Carson Essad had 3 saves for Boardman as goalie …

Boardman now holds a 19-6-3 all-time mark against the Irish while having outscored Ursuline 115-33 in 28 meetings …

The Spartans will open conference play when they travel to Austintown Fitch on Tuesday …

SCATTINO LOOKING FOR MORE THAN KICKS AT BW

WARREN, OH- Kennedy Senior, Alissa Scattino has taken her name off the board for school soccer recruiters at the next level.  Scattino made things official virtually surrounded by her family that she will head to Baldwin Wallace to join the Women’s Soccer program.  In the classroom, Alissa will focus on Sports Management in her journey for a degree.

Scattino leaves JFK with an impressive legacy in her wake:

Multiple All-Conference, All-County, and All-District selections

 

Academic Awards/Clubs and Activities: 

Alissa is an honor roll student and member of Student Government, Soccer Vision Academy Club, and Our Lady of Mount Carmel Youth Ministry. She is also a Dairy Queen associate.
