BOARDMAN PUTS BEARS IN HIBERNATION

BOARDMAN OH- The Boardman offense was bigh flying and explosive on Friday night as the Spartans ran away from East 62-14.

The Spartans put together 351 total yards of offense just in the first two quarters. Sean O’Horo ran for 134 yards on the night. Terrence Thomas ran for 70, and threw for 122. The Spartans did most of their damage in the first half, leading 41-0 at the half. Their 62 points scored is a program record.

Boardman hits the road in Week 6 as they travel to Cleveland Benedictine. East will stay on the road as they’ll match up with Mooney on Friday night.

BOARDMAN, OH – Boardman standout football player Terence Thomas sat down with Steve Leslie at Cocca’s Pizza for another Boardman Spartan Football player profile. Thomas is committed to play football at Purdue University. Thomas is one of the biggest recruits in the Mahoning Valley, with many offers to big division 1 schools. Thomas has been a key leader for the Spartans this season, and looks to guide them into the playoffs. Thomas talks about what drew him to Purdue, his goals for the season, and some fun facts about him with a rapid fire questionnaire.

BOARDMAN FOOTBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP. 5) WITH SETH ANTRAM

BOARDMAN, OH – Head coach, Seth Antram and the Boardman Spartans are back to their winning ways after flexing some offensive muscle last week. The Spartans welcomed the Howland Tigers to Spartan Stadium in week four and sent them back to Howland defeated as the Spartans won 33-21. Up next for Boardman will be a home game against the 1-3 East High Golden Bears at Spartan Stadium on Friday night.

YSN’s own, Steve Leslie, was able to sit down with Coach Antram at Cocca’s Pizza in Canfield this week to discuss the week four victory over Howland, what some takeaways are that he and his staff have noticed to prepare the Spartans for East, and what his keys to the game are for week five as a win will put Boardman at 4-1 on the season.

CANFIELD TAKES ANOTHER AAC WIN

BOARDMAN OH- Canfield has been one of the most impressive girls soccer teams in the area this year. They had a chance to flex their muscles on Wednesday night against conference foe Boardman. They did just that with a dominating 6-1 victory over the Spartans.

Lauren Yohman found the back of the net twice for the Cardinals. Mack Toporcer, Alli Malinky, Hannah Wahib also added goals for the Cardinals. The sixth goal was an own goal from Boardman. Yohman, Malinky, and Sabrina Goodrich got assists on the night. Bayan Jadallah collected 5 saves in front of the net.

Boardman’s lone goal came from Ava Freeborough. Their goalkeeper Faith Walston was busy all night, and did her best to keep her team in the game. She had 16 saves on the night.

Canfield outshot Boardman 29-6.

BREAKING DOWN BOARDMAN’S SWEEP OF AAC CHAMPIONSHIPS

BOARDMAN OH- The Boardman Spartans golf teams can now add an AAC title to their list of accomplishments in 2021.  Both the boys and girls teams won their respective titles.  Not too many people can speak on Boardman golf better than our golf guru from Mill Creek Park, Brian Tolnar.  He should know plenty about them, they call Mill Creek home after all.

 

Brian got his weekly segment on Running Point started this week by breaking down why the Spartans are having such a strong season.  He tells Anthony Hartwig and Ty Bartell about their coaching, their masterful ability to putt in any circumstance, and much more.  Boardman is putting together a fantastic 2021 campaign and you won’t be able to find a better break down of why anywhere else.

EARLY LEAD PROPELS FITCH PAST SPARTANS

AUSTINTOWN OH- It was a big matchup in the AAC Monday night as Fitch and Boardman squared off. Everyone knew this would be a fun matchup, and it did not disappoint. Fitch came away with the close 2-1 win, both goals coming in the first half.

The Falcons got goals from Miranda Ashley, and Moria George. Bailey Baker added an assist to the stat book. Jordan Corll played a great game in front of the net, piling up 12 huge saves.

Fitch will look to get their record above .500 on Wednesday as they take on Ursuline. Boardman has a big task in front of them Wednesday as they will host undefeated Canfield.

CAM’S THE MAN

BOARDMAN, OH – On this weeks Boardman football player profile, Cam Thompson joined the show live from Cocca’s Pizza. Thompson is a senior wide receiver who has an offer from Youngstown State University. Cam is not the only Thompson to run through the Spartan program, as his brother Wes mentored him during his time with the program. Cam talks about his senior leadership to the program, the college recruiting process, how good the Spartan offense can be, and a rapid fire questionnaire.

BOARDMAN, OH – Week three saw the Boardman Spartans and head coach, Seth Antram, travel down to Massillon Jackson to take on the Polar Bears, the Spartans battled and fought hard all night long but came up just a little short in Massillon, 20-14. Up next for Boardman will be a home game against the 1-2 Howland Tigers at Spartan Stadium on Friday night.

YSN’s own, Steve Leslie, had the opportunity to sit down with Coach Antram at Cocca’s Pizza in Canfield this week to discuss the week three battle with the Massillon Jackson Polar Bears, what the Spartans need to focus on this week to get back in the win column, what he and his staff think the Spartans need to do Friday night to avenge last week’s loss and improve to 3-1 against the Howland Tigers, and so much more!

FALCONS MAKE IT THREE IN A ROW

BOARDMAN OH- The Fitch Falcons have found a groove again. They have now rattled off three wins in a row after suffering their first loss of the year to Marlington. The Falcons got their third straight victory with a sweep over Boardman on Tuesday night. (25-20 25-18 26-24)

Leading the Falcons on the night was Jocelyn Jourdan who finished with a eye popping 22 kills. She also served up 3 aces. Erin Burke returned to the lineup and finished with 19 assists, and 2 aces. Ella Sahli played solid defense in the back row coming up with 9 digs. Julia Jordan was all over the stat sheet totaling 6 kills, 7 digs, and 3 aces.

Fitch will look to keep the win streak moving on Thursday as they travel to Warren Harding. Boardman hits the road as well on Thursday traveling to Canfield.

REBELS INVADE BOARDMAN, SWEEP SPARTANS

BOARDMAN OH- The Crestview Rebels may have opened some eyes around division 3 volleyball by going on the road and dominating a division 1 program in Boardman. (25-10 25-21 25-17

The Rebels had two separate players earn at least a double doubles as Grace Auer gathered 13 kills, and 15 assists. Lucy Montgomery also got herself a triple double with 10 kills and 12 assists, and 11 digs. Abbey Emch was also in double figures faith kills finishing with 10. She also went up and got 3 blocks. Kendra Greaves led the defense with 15 digs.

Crestview remains unbeaten on the season and will return to conference play on Tuesday traveling to Campbell.
