STRUTHERS CANT FIGHT PAST CANTON SOUTH

TALLMADGE OH- In the Regional Finals clash, Struthers’ postseason journey met its end with a 35-13 loss to Canton South.

The first quarter set the tone as Rome Cox’s 1-yard run put Canton South ahead 7-0.

Canton South extended their lead in the second quarter with Cox’s 1-yard run and a successful 8-yard pass from Pugh, making it 14-0. Struthers fought back with Devin Braham’s 1-yard run, closing the gap to 14-7. However, Canton South responded with a 2-yard pass from Poochie Snyder to Luke Johnson, ending the half 21-7.

In the third quarter, Canton South continued their dominance with Snyder connecting with Tre Wilson for a 44-yard pass, extending the lead to 28-7. Struthers showed resilience with AC Carter’s impressive 54-yard run, though the PAT was unsuccessful, making it 28-13. Nevertheless, Canton South sealed the victory with Snyder’s 19-yard pass to Tavon Castle, concluding the game at 35-13.

With this result, Canton South advances to the State Semifinals, while Struthers bows out of the postseason.

LAST SECOND SCORE ADVANCES STRUTHERS

BERKSHIRE OH- In a thrilling showdown, Struthers secured a dramatic victory with a last-second touchdown, edging past Mentor Lake Catholic 28-25.

The opening quarter set the tone as AC Carter powered through with a 6-yard run at 3:45, putting Struthers ahead 7-0.

Lake Catholic responded in the second quarter, with Harley Forkins nailing a 27-yard field goal at 8:42, narrowing the lead to 7-3. However, AC Carter extended Struthers’ advantage with an 8-yard run at 2:52, making it 14-3. Lake Catholic fought back with Frankie Trinetti connecting with Patrick Radigan for a 10-yard TD pass at 0:47. The successful 2-point conversion closed the gap to 14-11.

The third quarter saw AC Carter continuing his impressive performance, scoring an 8-yard run at 6:41, bringing the score to 21-11. Lake Catholic responded once again, with Frankie Trinetti connecting with Ace Peterlin for a 22-yard TD pass at 3:30, making it 21-18.

In a seesaw battle, the fourth quarter saw Lake Catholic taking the lead with Josh Styles running for a 7-yard TD at 6:38, putting them ahead 25-21. However, Struthers staged a stunning comeback with just 10 seconds left in the game. Jason Dukes connected with Robert Carcelli for a 9-yard TD pass, securing a nail-biting 28-25 victory for Struthers.

In a game filled with twists and turns, Struthers showcased resilience and determination, ultimately pulling off a memorable win in the final moments. The scoreboard reflected the intensity of the contest, with Struthers emerging triumphant with a final score of 28-25 over Mentor Lake Catholic.

This year, the Wildcats are experiencing a notable transformation with a wave of new names, marking what could be the most significant turnover in Wernicki’s tenure at Struthers. The NE8 is also witnessing an infusion of fresh faces, setting the stage for intense competition. Struthers Gains Redemption, Advances in Playoffs with 14-9 Victory Over Poland

In a high-stakes playoff showdown, Struthers found sweet revenge for a Week 10 loss by edging out Poland in a nail-biting 14-9 victory.

The first quarter remained scoreless, as both teams grappled for control on the field. It was clear that this was going to be a closely contested match from the start.

The second quarter saw the first points on the board as Poland’s Jas Stefancin converted a 21-yard field goal, giving Poland a 3-0 lead at 7:54.

However, Struthers quickly responded in the third quarter, with running back Jason Dukes leading the charge. Dukes plowed through the defense with an 11-yard rushing touchdown at 6:41. The extra point was good, granting Struthers a 7-3 lead.

Dukes was far from finished, as he broke free with an explosive 63-yard rushing touchdown at 2:30, extending Struthers’ lead to 14-3 after another successful extra point.

Poland wasn’t willing to go down without a fight. Quarterback Dom Pagano connected with Cole Fulton for a remarkable 61-yard touchdown pass at 1:34 in the third quarter. However, the two-point conversion was unsuccessful, leaving the score at 14-9 in favor of Struthers.

The fourth quarter remained scoreless, but it was Dukes who sealed the deal for Struthers with an interception in the end zone. This critical play ensured that Poland could not mount a comeback in the waning moments of the game.

The victory marked a crucial moment for Struthers, avenging their previous loss and propelling them further in the playoffs. The Wildcats will match up with Mentor Lake Catholic in the Regional Semifinals.

WILDCATS TAKE REMATCH WITH GIRARD

STRUTHERS OH- Struthers kicked off their playoff journey in thrilling fashion with a hard-fought victory over Northeast Eight (NE8) rival Girard, ending with a final score of 21-16.

The first quarter began with Ahmad Curd-Stephens of Girard setting the tone, running for a 5-yard touchdown at 5:29. A successful PAT gave Girard an early lead of 7-0.

In the second quarter, Struthers mounted their response. Devin Braham made a critical 3-yard touchdown run at 3:51, and Struthers’ PAT tied the game at 7-7. Girard wasn’t to be outdone, as Zachary Morris showcased his kicking skills with a 35-yard field goal at 1:31, giving Girard a narrow 10-7 lead. However, Struthers roared back just before the half ended, with Jason Dukes connecting with Robert Carcelli on a 17-yard touchdown pass at the last seconds. The successful PAT put Struthers ahead 14-10.

The third quarter brought more action as AC Carter ran for a 22-yard touchdown at 3:51, and Struthers’ PAT was good, extending their lead to 21-10.

In the final quarter, Girard made a spirited comeback effort as Stephen Sims scored a 1-yard touchdown run at 3:57. However, the 2-point conversion attempt was unsuccessful, and the score stood at 21-16.

Ultimately, Struthers held on to secure their playoff win in round one with a final score of 21-16. This victory showcased their resilience and determination in a challenging contest against a NE8 rival, setting a promising tone for the rest of their playoff journey.

STRUTHERS SETS UP DOMINATING DEFENSE

STRUTHERS OH- In a battle of local rivals, Struthers continued their impressive run as their defense secured a shutout victory, defeating Niles with a final score of 21-0. With a strong defensive performance, Struthers kept Niles off the scoreboard and extended their winning streak.

The opening quarter saw no scoring, but it was clear that both teams were gearing up for a competitive matchup. The tension on the field was palpable as they entered the second quarter.

The second quarter ignited the scoring as Struthers made their mark. Devin Braham showcased his skills with an impressive 36-yard touchdown run, providing Struthers with a 7-0 lead. As the quarter was winding down, Jason Dukes powered his way through Niles’ defense with a 2-yard rushing touchdown, expanding Struthers’ lead to 13-0. However, the point-after-touchdown attempt was unsuccessful.

In the third quarter, Struthers continued to assert their dominance. Jason Dukes had another moment in the spotlight, this time with an 11-yard rushing touchdown. Not content with just the touchdown, Struthers opted for a 2-point conversion to further strengthen their lead, resulting in a score of 21-0.

With no response from Niles’ offense and Struthers’ defense standing strong, the third quarter concluded with Struthers maintaining their commanding lead.

The final whistle confirmed Struthers’ victory with a score of 21-0, thanks in large part to their exceptional defensive performance. Struthers’ defense was relentless, consistently thwarting Niles’ offensive attempts and securing the shutout.

Struthers’ impressive run continues, and they look to maintain their momentum in the upcoming games. Niles, on the other hand, aims to regroup and come back stronger after this challenging contest.

COLUMBIANA HAS FUN IN THE FIELDHOUSE

Columbiana made an impressive move by stepping up a division to face off against the Struthers Wildcats at the Struthers Fieldhouse. The decision paid off in a big way as they secured a significant non-conference victory.

The stats for Columbiana tell the story of their triumphant performance. Ellie Jackson led the charge with a spectacular double-double, showcasing her all-around abilities on the court. She contributed 18 assists, 15 digs, and hammered home 8 kills, demonstrating her proficiency in setting up plays and finishing them as well.

Cameron Perkins was another standout player for Columbiana, nearly achieving a double-double of her own. She recorded 11 assists, 12 digs, and was just one kill short with an impressive 9 kills. Her contributions in both setting and attacking were vital to her team’s success.

Kelsey Cameron made her presence felt with 6 kills and 6 aces, providing valuable points and aces that helped keep the momentum in Columbiana’s favor. Ava Heinrich’s incredible defensive effort shone through with an impressive 25 digs, ensuring that her team could maintain control of the game.

Columbiana’s decision to step up in competition paid off handsomely as they showcased their skills and determination on the court. With strong performances from key players like Ellie Jackson, Cameron Perkins, Kelsey Cameron, and Ava Heinrich, they secured a memorable victory in the Struthers Fieldhouse, highlighting their capabilities as a formidable volleyball team.

In a dominating performance, the Struthers Wildcats continued their winning streak with a resounding victory over Youngstown East, finishing the game with a commanding score of 34-8.

The first quarter set the tone for Struthers as Devin Braham powered through with a 4-yard rushing touchdown. Although the PAT was missed, Struthers took an early 6-0 lead.

The second quarter saw Struthers extending their lead as AC Carter bulldozed his way into the end zone with a 3-yard rushing touchdown, and the Wildcats executed a successful two-point conversion, bringing the score to 14-0. Devin Braham then showcased his talent with a 17-yard rushing touchdown, and this time the PAT was good, widening Struthers’ lead to 21-0 at halftime.

Struthers continued to dominate in the third quarter, with Na’Jier Howard orchestrating a well-executed play. Howard handed off to Jason Dukes, who then passed to Robert Carcelli for a 5-yard touchdown. Unfortunately, the PAT was missed, but Struthers now had a commanding 27-0 lead.

The Wildcats’ defense proved relentless as Devin Braham intercepted a pass and returned it for an impressive 52-yard defensive touchdown in the third quarter. The PAT was successful, pushing Struthers further ahead at 34-0.

In the fourth quarter, Youngstown East managed to get on the scoreboard with a touchdown pass from Andrew Blackmon to Tyris Davis for 49 yards. They successfully executed a two-point conversion, bringing the final score to 34-8 in favor of Struthers.

The Struthers Wildcats showcased their dominance on both sides of the ball, delivering a convincing victory and maintaining their winning momentum throughout the game.
