WATTS CHOOSES GEORGIA TECH

AUSTINTOWN OH- For the last two seasons Austintown Fitch pitcher Sydnie Watts has taken the area by storm.  She has been the talk of the local softball community with her excellence in the circle.  Last season she led Fitch to their program’s first state championship.  Watts finished the championship season with a 0.38 ERA and 281 strikeouts.  She also hit .492 at the plate with  6 HR and 23 RBI.

The summer before her junior year was definitely important for her and everyone in the class of 2025. Sydnie finally was able to have contact with college coaches and make serious headway in her decision on where to play after high school. That question has been floating around pretty much since she started her first game at Fitch. “Where do you think Sydnie will play in college.” Today that question has an answer. Live on YSN’s Running Point Sydnie made the announcement that she is continuing her softball career at Georgia Tech.

Georgia Tech is a technical institute in the heart of downtown Atlanta. They play in the ACC, among the names like Florida State, Clemson, and Duke.  Tech is coached by Aileen Morales. Morales played her college ball at Georgia Tech, and recently got inducted into their Hall of Fame. She took over the head coaching job in 2018 and immediately started seeing the program do things they hadn’t done in a while, like make the postseason, win over 25 games, and winning 5 conference series.  Coach Morales and her staff were a big reason why Sydnie chose Tech.

Austintown Fitch head coach Steve Ward has had a front row seat to Sydnie’s talent and ability for two seasons.  He was as excited as anyone to hear that Sydnie found a home. He had this to say about her commitment.   “Syd is such an amazing talent and that is clearly evident in the circle so what I’m really excited for Georgia Tech to continue to learn about her is how amazing she is as a teammate in and out of the dugout.”

While it is exciting to see Watts find a home, the area gets to watch her play for two more seasons at Austintown Fitch before she heads to the 404.  With plenty to still accomplish as a Falcon, Sydnie can now put all her focus on finishing her career at Fitch.

Sydnie came on YSN’s Running Point today to make her commitment public and to tell us what made Georgia Tech feel like home. She talks to the voice of the Falcons Ty Bartell about her decision, her recruiting process, and so much more. Check out this exclusive interview with future Yellow Jacket Sydnie Watts only on YSN!

REACHING MAXIMUM WATTAGE IN THE CIRCLE

AUSTINTOWN OH- Sometimes while watching high school sports you find yourself watching a player that you know is a once in a generation type talent. In the sport of softball which is constantly growing in the valley, it was only a matter of time before we produced one of those players that could fit that description. Some people will tell you that we have found one in Austintown in Sydnie Watts. When you watch her play, it doesn’t take long to figure out those people might just be right. We’ve had greatness come through the area in the sport for sure. We’ve had All-State winners, players that have gone to Power 5 schools and that have gone on to do great things. Sydnie is on the path to put her name in with all those athletes of the past.  She has already become a local celebrity.  If you go to a softball game anywhere in the state of Ohio, there’s a good chance someone is talking about Sydnie Watts.

As Watts steps in to her sophomore year, the name of the game was consistency. After a truly prolific freshman season, Sydnie had to prove that she was going to come back just as if not more dominant against teams that have now seen her before.  We think it’s safe to say she has succeeded in that.  Her numbers put up this year are pretty much at the video game level.

In the circle, Watts has pitched 89 innings for the Falcons so far this year. Her ERA is sitting at 0.390. She only given up 29 hits total, and just 5 earned runs.  Watts holds opposing batters to an average of .096.  Can she strike people out? Yes. Watts is close to 200 already this year, right now coming in at 192.  She has already hit the 500 K mark for her career as a whole. Okay, but you only have to deal with her in the circle right? Wrong. Sydnie is one of the most dangerous hitters on Fitch’s stacked lineups.  She is hitting .512 on the season drilling 3 home runs, and knocking in 18 RBI.

Sydnie was kind enough to talk with YSN’s Anthony Hartwig about her sophomore season at Fitch. They also discuss her summer playing on a national travel team, what things she developed in her game this year, and so much more! Check out the latest Austintown Fitch Player Profile only on YSN!

WATTS MAKES FITCH ELECTRIC

AUSTINTOWN OH-  “The Freshman Phenom”, “Maximum Wattage”, “The Amplifier” and of course “The Untouchable.” These are some of the nicknames that Fitch Falcons freshman superstar Sydnie Watts have gained over the course of her first season.

How can you not? Surpassing the 200 strikeout mark in the season, while simultaneously keeping her Earned Run Average (ERA) under 1! Pair that with the fact that she is a serious threat in The Fitch lineup. Typically batting cleanup, she has hit over .500 on the season, while slugging a half a dozen home runs! Her season totals are at the top of her team in multiple categories. Those include batting average (2nd), home runs (1st), runs batted in (2nd), hits (2nd) and slugging percentage (1st).

The legend of Sydnie Watts continues to build, with her potential limitless, I guess it would be safe to say that the maximum wattage on this one is unlimited! Aside from the incredible statline, Watts has an incredible personality that fits like a glove with this group of Falcons softball stars! Drawing inspiration from the senior leaders and upperclassmen of this team such as Maddy Taylor, Kayla Schubert and McKenna Hogan. Watts has continued to learn and grow in just her first season.

This is one that you CANNOT miss! As The Running Point crew get The Player Profile debut of Sydnie Watts!
