Beachwood-  Congratulations to the boys tennis team on Saturday as they won the CVC Championship for the Chagrin Division on Saturday by holding off Hawken.  Earning first team all CVC were as follows:

ORANGE DOMINATES ST. JOE’S

PEPPER PIKE, OH-With defending state singles runner-up Alexis Nyborg resting, the Lions cruised to a 4-1 win over D1 St. Joseph’s Academy Tuesday. The Lions are now 4-1 in the highly competitive NEOTA group ‘A’, tied for first place. Taking over for Nyborg at #1 singles, senior Blake Rothchild fought through a tight first set 7-5 before putting a perfect 6-0 score on the board in the second set to conclude the match.

On the doubles courts both Orange teams had perfect first sets before working their way through more competitive second sets. Player of the match honors went to Junior Daniela DeMata Hiciano, who stepped up to #2 singles and won by a perfect 6-0, 6-0 score.

The Lions continue their busy week Wednesday when they host the Laurel Gators at the Varsity Tennis Center.

LADY LIONS CRUISE IN STATE TEAM TOURNEY

PEPPER PIKE, OH- The Lions quickly overwhelmed Akron St. Vincent St. Mary in the first round of the Ohio Tennis Coaches Association (OTCA) state team tournament Monday, dropping a total of only 3 games in the entire match.

Player of the Match honors went to Junior Hayley Paradise who stepped in to the #3 singles spot so capably held down all season by fellow Junior Daniela DeMata Hiciano and won by a 6-0, 6-1 margin. DeMata Hiciano played doubles for the first time this season and also won by a 6-0, 6-1 scoreline with freshman partner Lily Guiler.

The Lions now await the winner of Gilmour and arch rival Hawken in the second round of the tournament.

WEST BRANCH GIVES LADY BULLDOGS FITS

EAST PALESTINE, OH- The Lady Bulldogs were in action on Monday against West Branch on the tennis court.  Looking for their first victory, East Palestine fought valiantly, but the experience of the Lady Warriors was just too much.

1st singles- WB senior Abby Stephens best EP senior Christine Adam 6-1, 6-1

2nd singles WB senior Emily Algaier beat EP senior Katherine Simon 6-0, 6-0

3rd singles WB sophomore Ally Zion beat EP sophomore Alexis Schnelle 60-,6-0

1st doubles- WB seniors Makayla Randlett and Halle Cutchall beat EP seniors Ivy Burkett and Alex Siracuse 6-2, 6-2

2nd doubles- WB juniors Liana Gabrelcik and Sydney Fetters beat EP senior Hannah Felger and freshman Claire Evans 6-1,6-0

West Branch is now 4-0, while EP drops to 0-2.
