BOARDMAN GIRLS BASKETBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 2) WITH ANNIE PAVLANSKY

BOARDMAN, OH- The Boardman High School Lady Spartans basketball team has welcomed a fresh face to its sidelines as Annie Pavlansky assumes the role of head coach. Known for her deep-rooted family ties in coaching, Pavlansky is taking the helm with high hopes and expectations for the team.

The announcement was made at the annual Spartan coaches corner event, coinciding with the festive Spartans giving celebration. Pavlansky expressed her honor and excitement about leading such a storied program.

“I am so honored that they even chose me and considered me for this role,” Pavlansky said. “It’s been such a great program, and they’ve set such a great expectation, great tradition, and I’m just hoping to carry that moving forward.”

Pavlansky steps up from within the Spartan ranks, following a successful handover from championship coach Jeff Hammerton. With no change in championship expectations, Pavlansky is aiming to build on the legacy of Mackenzie Riccitielli’s era, ensuring the team remains competitive and driven.

Returning key players, such as Ava Freeboro and Sara Barrow, alongside emerging talents, will be instrumental as the Lady Spartans navigate a potentially challenging season. Pavlansky commended the players’ efforts in adapting to her coaching style and embracing the rigorous demands of practice.

“We’re young and inexperienced a little bit but are learning to play together. They are responding to everything we’re telling them and working hard and pushing each other,” Pavlansky noted.

The new coach emphasizes consistency and good habits, understanding that basketball is a marathon, not a sprint. With the holiday season approaching, maintaining focus and dedication remains integral.

When asked about her coaching style, Pavlansky described herself as “cool, calm, and collected,” though she admits her competitive spirit comes alive during critical moments in games. She values collaborative leadership, often involving her assistant coaches in steering the team.

Looking forward, Pavlansky is grateful for the strong support from her family and colleagues, particularly her father and uncles, who are seasoned coaches.

Expressing gratitude on the eve of Thanksgiving, Pavlansky said, “I’m thankful for my family, my friends, all of our girls, and the incredible coaching staff here at Boardman.”

With unwavering support and a clear vision, Pavlansky’s debut season as the head coach of the Lady Spartans promises to be an exciting new chapter in Boardman High School’s proud basketball tradition.

STRINES CONTINUES TO THRIVE

BOARDMAN OH- Last season Boardman brought out a freshman pitcher that lit the world up by surprise. As soon as Tori Strines stepped on the field, everyone knew who she was.  Whether it be her prolific work inside the circle, or her dangerous bay on offense, Strines struck fear into the Spartans opposition.  Most of that might have been contributed to the element of surprise. No one had a book on Tori Strines.  The second season is when players prove how great they are.  Strines wasn’t going to surprise anyone this season.  She’d be someone that was circled three times on everyone’s scouting report.  Strines hasn’t been bothered by the extra attention though.  Despite the adjustments that other teams have made on her, Strines has continued to thrive for Boardman. She is still doing it on both sides of the ball, pitching well, and leading as a hitter. The numbers speak for themselves.

In the circle Tori has pitched 51 innings. That ranks second on the team in a staff that features a three pitcher rotation. Strines has an ERA of 2.19 and has struck out 52 and only walked 10.  She ranks second on the team in opponent’s batting average as other teams hit .318 off her.  At the plate herself Strines hits .343 with 8 doubles, 1 triple, and 11 RBI.

Tori took the time to check in with YSN’s Anthony Hartwig to talk about her sophomore campaign.  She talks about how hungry they are this season, the transition between freshman and sophomore season, and much more. Check out the latest Boardman Softball Player Profile only on YSN!

SHE STRINES SO BRIGHT

BOARDMAN OH- Varsity softball is always depicted as a massive step up from the levels below it. You can imagine then how hard the transition can be for student athletes. It makes it particularly impressive when freshmen come in and make immediate impacts. That is exactly what Boardman freshman Tori Strines has done.

Tori has become crucial to the Spartans success this season. You could call it a pleasant surprise. Coming into the fall, not too many people in the program would have guessed that Strines would enter May as the team leader in innings pitched. Strines is sitting at 70.2 innings pitched. She has struck out 62, and currently has an ERA of 2.97.  So far the performance that may have solidified how impressive she is was actually a loss. Tori Strines tied the circle against Massillon Jackson. On the other side in the circle, the Polar Bears featured Purdue commit Julia Gossett. Tori went toe to toe with her the whole game, and ended up being a tough luck loser in a 1-0 decision.

Tori took the time to join YSN’s Running Point to give us an insight into her freshman season. She talks to Anthony Hartwig, and Ty Bartell about what it’s been like making a sudden impact, the biggest thing she’s learned over the year, and much more. Do yourself a favor and check out the latest Boardman softball player profile.
