CAPTAIN CANFIELD

POLAND, OH-  Amid the bustling energy of a new school football season, one name has been the talk of both the stands and the student body: Tyler Canfield. The senior captain of Poland High School’s football team is making waves not only for his impressive play on the field but also for the determination and leadership he brings to the game.
In an interview last week on the Poland Bulldog Show, hosted by Matt Romeo, Canfield shared insights into his journey and what it means to don the Bulldog uniform. Despite having a last name that is synonymous with their rivals, Canfield has become an irreplaceable pillar of the Poland community.
“Ever since I was young, I remember just hooping when I was younger,” Canfield recalled. “All the refs used to say something about it, and going in, I get the comments once in a while, but it doesn’t affect me.”

Being named captain is the culmination of years of hard work and leadership. Coach Pav, a revered figure in Poland sports, always stresses the importance of the title “senior,” making Canfield’s dual role as captain even more significant.
“Getting both titles—a senior and a captain—is just amazing,” he said. “The younger kids always look up to you. It’s just a great feeling to have, knowing that your voice means a little more.”

Canfield’s influence extends beyond the locker room and the huddle. He talked about working with younger players like Chase Jones and Nick Natoli, and even freshman quarterback David Zipolitis, ensuring they understand the importance of focus and communication in high-pressure situations.
“I think everybody knows when Vito or David come into that huddle, it’s time to lock in,” Canfield explained. “There’s no more messing around. We have to communicate in the huddle, and they know as soon as the ball says out, like it’s on.”

Looking ahead, Canfield and his teammates are gearing up to face Howlin this week, brimming with confidence and readiness. “Today was Monday, so obviously we’re done with the old week. We had our time to have fun with the win. It’s on to a new week, so we’re just ready to go and make Howlin feel us for sure.”
The Poland community will undoubtedly be in full support, watching their senior captain lead the Bulldogs with the poise and dedication he’s come to be known for. Whether on the gridiron or in daily life, Tyler Canfield proves that legacy is built on more than just a name—it’s built through character, effort, and leadership.
