ASTROS STEAMROLL THROUGH GAME 2

STRUTHERS OH- The Astro Falcons left no doubt in anyone’s mind in Game 2 of the 16U championship series with a 14-0 blowout of Knightline. The Falcons scored in all but 1 inning, including a five spot in the sixth to secure a run rule win.

Tyler Staub had a monster game at the plate for the Falcons going 1-2 with 2 runs scored, 1 walk, and 3 RBI. AJ Havrilla went 2-3 with 2 runs scored, 2 walks, and a RBI. Ben Slanker went 1-3 with 2 RBI. Jim Campbell went 1-2 with 2 runs scored, a walk, and a RBI.

Knightline only managed one hit on the night and it came from Gavin Mauger. He went 1-1. Jake Corll walked twice.

Tino Campoli got the tremendous win on the hill. He went 4 innings giving up 0 runs on 0 hits and striking out 6.

ASTROS FEELIN FRESH AFTER SWEEP OF EAGLE WEAR

STRUTHERS OH- Astro Falcons completed a semifinal sweep of Eagle Wear with a commanding 11-0 victory on Sunday. The Falcons move on to the 16U championship series against Knightline.

Tyler Staub was a key factor to the Falcons success. He went 2-3 with 2 runs scored, 2 walks, and 2 RBI. AJ Havrilla went 1-2 with a run scored, 2 walks, and 2 RBI. Anthony Miller went 2-5 with a run scored.

Christopher Altiere did all he could offensively going 2-3 on the day. Cal Rinck went 1-2 with a walk.

Dom Fornatado got the win toeing the rubber for the Falcons. He went 5 innings giving up 0 runs on 2 hits. He struck out 3.

ASTROS STEAMROLL AVALANCHE

STRUTHERS OH- The regular season finale on Monday was no problem for Astro Falcons. They dominated Avalanche in a decisive 11-1 victory. They out hit Avalanche 14-3.

Stephen Tarnoci was a catalyst for the Falcons offense going 1-3 with 3 RBI. Tyler Staub went 2-4 with 2 runs scored and 2 RBI. Ben Slanker went 3-4 with 2 RBI.

Lucas Cummings had the sole RBI for Avalanche. He went 1-2 on the day. Jake Mattocks went 1-2 with a run scored. The third Avalanche hit came from Josh Work who went 1-2.

Ryan Petro got the victory toeing the rubber. He went 5 innings giving up 1 run on 3 hits and striking out 9.

FALCONS BURY CREEKSIDE

STRUTHERS OH- The Astro Falcons continued to roll through the summer on Tuesday with a dominant 13-3 victory over Creekside. The Falcons were also helped out by 6 Creekside errors.

Ryan Petro was crucial to the Falcons onslaught. He went 1-3 with 2 runs scored and 3 RBI. Tyler Staub had a perfect day going 3-3 with 2 runs scored. Cole Constable went 2-3 with 2 runs scored with 1 RBI.

Nolan Radinsky had the lone RBI for Creekside. Jayden Maggs went 1-2 with a run scored. Kaden Anthony went 1-1.

Jake Grdic got the win toeing the rubber for the Falcons. He went 5 innings giving up 1 earned run on 4 hits. He struck out 6.

FALCONS PITCHING HUSHES ROTH BROTHERS

STRUTHERS OH- Astro Falcons had another great day on the mound Friday against Roth Brothers.  They shut out Roth’s offense allowing only 6 hits. The Falcons scored in every inning except the 1st and 7th.

Will Morrow led the Falcons offense on the day going 1-3 with 2 runs scored and 2 RBI. Seth Cervello went 2-2 with a run scored, and a RBI. Luca Ricchuti went 2-3 with a RBI.

Jordan Streamo has a good day at the plate for Roth Brothers. He went 2-3. Chance Laczko went 1-2.

Tyler Staub got the win on the bump. He went 6 innings giving up 0 runs on 5 hits. He struck out 5 and walked 3.

KNIGHTLINE STUN ASTRO FALCONS

STRUTHERS OH- Knightline took over first place in the standings on Sunday with a 5-1 win over Astro Falcons. Knightline scores all five of their runs in the 3rd inning. The Falcons responded with a run in the bottom of the frame, but that’s as far as they would go.

Gavin Shrum went 2-3 for Knightline with a run scored and a RBI. Anthony Butto went 1-2 with a walk and a RBI.

Tino Campoli went 1-3 for the Falcons with the team’s only RBI. Tyler Staub went 2-3 with a run scored. Nate Shaw went 2-2.

Jake Corll got the win on the mound for Knightline. He went 4 innings giving up 1 earned run on 5 hits. He struck out 8.

PROSPECTS AND FALCONS DRAW EVEN

STRUTHERS OH- Both pitching staffs were solid in the game between Astro Falcons and Prospects on Sunday. The Falcons scored two runs early, Prospects scored two runs late and that’s where they would remain. Deadlocked at 2 as time expired.

Not many hits for either side in this one, but Cole Constable went 1-2 with a RBI for the Falcons. Tino Campoli has the other RBI.

Jake Hettrick went 1-3 with a RBI for the Prospects. Zach Macik had the same stat line.

Tyler Staub went 3 innings for the Falcons and gave up just 1 run on 1 hit. He struck out 2.

Jack Liepheimer went 4 innings for Prospects and gave up 0 runs on 3 hits and struck out 2.

YOUNGSTOWN PONY’S UP, DEFEATS AUSTRIA IN PLWS.

WASHINGTON, PA-  Youngstown defeated Vienna, Austria 10-0 on Saturday as three pitchers combined to throw a shutout. Braden Gebhardt induced a groundout from Alexander Resel to finish off the game.  Youngstown, OH secured the victory thanks to six runs in the sixth inning. Tyler StaubAndrew Kirkpatrick, and Colten Shaffer all moved runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning.  Youngstown, OH got things started in the first inning. Brady Shannon singled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run.

Youngstown, OH scored six runs in the sixth inning. Youngstown’s big inning was driven by a walk by Tyler Staub, a single by Colten Shaffer, and an error on a ball put in play by Andrew Kirkpatrick.  A single by Levin Heinzle in the third inning was a positive for Vienna, Austria.

Colten Shaffer pitched Youngstown to victory. He allowed one hit and zero runs over three innings, striking out four and walking zero. Joe Roth and Braden Gebhardt entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief.

Eoghan McGarry took the loss for Austria. He surrendered five runs on nine hits over five innings, striking out five and walking zero.

Youngstown tallied 11 hits in the game. Colten ShafferAndrew Kirkpatrick, and Brady Shannon all collected multiple hits for Youngstown.  Colten Shaffer went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Youngstown in hits.  AJ Havrilla also drove in 2 RBI in the victory.

Team Youngstown will now wait two days and watch the tournament from the winner’s bracket in anticipation for their game Monday evening at 5:30.  Colten Shaffer will be eligible to pitch again under the pitch count rules by Pony League.  We will have interviews with the players and staff following the victory and move toward Monday’s next round.  Stay tuned to YSNLive.com, and our social media channels as we follow the progress of Team Youngstown.
