UNITED REGAINS WINNING WAYS

United swiftly regained their momentum on Thursday night, dispatching Wellsville with a dominant 48-15 victory. The Eagles asserted control right from the start, securing a commanding 22-3 lead in the first quarter.

Leading the charge for United was Grace Knight, who delivered an impressive 17-point performance. Katie Dees contributed 10 points, and Addy Blazer added 8 points, showcasing a well-rounded offensive effort.

On the Wellsville side, Bella Poppleriter managed to score 6 points in the face of United’s strong defensive presence.

With this convincing win, United advances to a 5-1 record and looks forward to carrying that momentum into a crucial league matchup against Columbiana on Monday. Meanwhile, Wellsville, now 4-3, seeks to bounce back as they host East Palestine on Monday, aiming to regroup from Thursday night’s challenging contest.

EAGLES KNOW HOW TO WIN ON THE ROAD

SALINEVILLE OH- In a hard-fought road battle, United emerged victorious on Tuesday night against Southern, securing a 41-33 win.

Key contributors for United included Jason Pratt with 14 points, Trent Ellyson adding 11 points, and Loudon Styffeler contributing 7 points in a well-balanced offensive effort.

Southern’s offensive efforts were led by Mason Pitts and Markell Smith, each scoring 11 points.

With this win, United improves to 2-2 on the season and looks ahead to their upcoming road matchup against Wellsville on Friday. Meanwhile, Southern, now 1-3, will hit the road as well, making the trip to East Palestine, seeking to bounce back from Tuesday night’s tough contest.

SOUTHERN MAKES MOVES INSIDE THE CONFERENCE

In a pivotal matchup, Southern rebounded from last week’s setback against Columbiana with a crucial conference win over United, prevailing 50-44 on Monday night. The victory was a testament to Southern’s determination to bounce back and secure key wins within the conference.

Ashley Shroades led the charge for Southern with an impressive 27 points, showcasing her scoring prowess on the court. Josie Stanley contributed 8 points, and Makenna Jones added 6 points to Southern’s winning effort.

United, despite their talent, couldn’t overcome Southern’s resilience. Grace Knight led the Eagles with 16 points, while Addy Blazer and Grayson Kidder each contributed 10 points.

UNITED MAKES IT DECISIVE IN LEETONIA

LEETONIA OH- United wasted no time securing a decisive victory in their early varsity matchup on the road against Leetonia, closing the game with a 41-12 win.

Grace Knight led the charge for United, contributing 19 points, followed by Addy Blazer with 12 points and Sam Lippiatt adding 6 points. Leetonia’s Star Neal scored 6 points in the contest.

United’s next match up will be another road matchup on Monday against Southern, while Leetonia will stay at home on Monday and host East Palestine.

UNITED SHOWS OFF IN EOAC OPENER

HANOVERTON OH- In a dominant display, United secured their first Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference (EOAC) matchup victory with a convincing 57-19 win over Lisbon.

Leading the scoring charge for United was Grace Knight with an impressive 18 points. Addy Blazer contributed 11 points, showcasing an exceptional all-around performance with 8 assists, 5 rebounds, and a remarkable 14 steals—a program record for steals in a game. Katie Dees added 10 points to the team’s total.

On the Lisbon side, Morgan Lively led the scoring efforts with 9 points, followed by Lylah Brown with 5 points.

United’s comprehensive win sets a positive tone for their EOAC campaign, and they will look to carry this momentum into their upcoming matchup against Valley Christian on Monday. Lisbon, on the other hand, will return home for their next game on Saturday against Lowellville, aiming to regroup and bounce back.

EAGLES DEFENSE DOES THE JOB

CANFIELD OH- In a season opener characterized by tenacious defense, United emerged victorious in a hard-fought road game against South Range, clinching a narrow 29-27 win.

Addy Blazer led the scoring efforts for United with a game-high 11 points, showcasing her offensive prowess. Grace Knight contributed 9 points in a valuable supporting role.

On the South Range side, Devin Sauerwein scored 8 points, while Sydney Penick added 7 points in a resilient effort.

United will now return home for their opener in their own gym on Thursday, hosting Lisbon. Meanwhile, South Range aims to bounce back from the close defeat as they face Boardman on Wednesday.

 

UNITED GIRLS BASKETBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 1) WITH CORY LEEK

HANOVERTON OH- If you are talking about girls basketball inside The Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference (EOAC) you have to talk about The United Golden Eagles! Coming off a perfect conference slate last year, The Eagles were 14-0 in The EOAC and 19-6 overall. With aspirations of reclaiming a conference crown for a third consecutive year, United will do so after losing three seniors and two starters from a season ago. However, returning more than a handful of players and an expected starting five of all seniors this year, the expectations are on par for The Golden Eagles.

In this edition of Coaches Corner, YSNs Ty Bartell gets the chance to talk with The United girls basketball Head Coach Cory Leek about the program’s success in recent years, playing with a target on their back, developing the team under new senior leaders and much more! UNITED FALLS IN SECOND ROUND

HANOVERTON, OH- In a hard-fought second-round clash in the OHSAA Playoffs, the Cuyahoga Heights football team demonstrated their strength and determination as they conquered the United Eagles, sealing a 26-7 victory that showcased their prowess on the field.

From the opening kickoff, it was evident that Cuyahoga Heights was determined to assert its dominance. Francis Connors led the charge, plowing his way through the Eagles’ defense, and capping off an impressive drive with a 1-yard rushing touchdown. Michael Paterkiewicz’s successful kick added the extra point, giving Cuyahoga Heights an early 7-0 lead.

Cuyahoga Heights continued to assert their dominance in the second quarter. Connors struck again with a 6-yard rushing touchdown, although the extra point attempt fell short. The score expanded to 13-0 in favor of Cuyahoga Heights.

United faced a formidable challenge, with the Cuyahoga Heights defense proving to be a formidable barrier. The Eagles’ struggles continued into the third quarter as Anthony Coutouzis broke through with a 7-yard rushing touchdown. Although the two-point conversion pass attempt failed, Cuyahoga Heights widened their lead to 19-0.

Connors was far from done, as he secured his third rushing touchdown of the game with another 1-yard plunge, and Paterkiewicz’s kick was true. The Cuyahoga Heights lead was now a commanding 26-0.

Despite the challenging circumstances, the United Eagles continued to fight. In the fourth quarter, Luke Courtney connected with Andrew Ogilvie for a 15-yard touchdown pass, showing their determination to avoid a shutout. Courtney’s successful kick added the extra point, and the Eagles put 7 points on the scoreboard.

However, it was not enough to mount a full-scale comeback, and the game concluded with a final score of 26-7 in favor of Cuyahoga Heights.

Cuyahoga Heights gained a total of 263 yards, compared to United’s 232.  Francis Connors was the standout player for Cuyahoga Heights, accumulating 179 yards on 37 carries, and setting the tone.  Luke Courtney led the United Eagles with 72 yards on 13 carries, Courtney also passed for 98 yards. and closes the book on a historic Eagles career where he did everything but drive the bus in his tenure.

UNITED STANDS TALL OVER BROOKFIELD

HANOVERTON OH- The first week of the high school football playoffs in the state of Ohio is officially in the books and there were countless area matchups that provided plenty of entertainment in the first round. One of those matchups occurred between a pair of YSN schools in Division 6, Region 21 with the #4 seeded United Golden Eagles (9-1) hosting the #13 seeded Brookfield Warriors (5-5).

Brookfield started with possession early, but a fumble that was recovered by United with 9:30 left in the first quarter set up a 45-yard pass from Luke Courtney to Parker Newburn, flipping field position. Getting on the right side of the 50 yard line, translated into a 6-yard touchdown QB draw from Courtney to give Untied the 7-0 lead with 6:51 in the first quarter. The remainder of the opening quarter would be scoreless, until, with 11 minutes left in the second, The Warriors’ Kaiden Kirila blocked a punt that enabled a 39-yard touchdown return from Rico Smith to tie the game up 7-7! United would get the last laugh in the first half, getting into the red zone and scoring with, yet another, QB draw from Luke COurtney to put The Golden Eagles up 14-7 at halftime!

United would open up the scoring in the second half as well, with 5:35 in the third quarter, Luke Courtney nailed a 30-yard field goal to put The Eagles up by double digits at 17-7. The Warriors would not go away as the very next kickoff saw Rico Smith return it 55 yards to the house to cut into the deficit, trimming the United lead to 17-14. The final score came from The Eagles Luke Courtney on a 47-yard QB draw for a touchdown to retake the double digit lead at 24-14. A pair of United interceptions from Parker Newburn, his second of the day, and Logan Castro, iced the game for The Golden Eagles at 24-14!

Luke Courtney was Mr. Do-All as he was responsible for all the points in the United win with a passing touchdown, 2 rushing touchdowns and a field goal. United (10-1) will now play the #5 seeded Cuyahoga Heights Red Wolves (9-1) on Friday, November 3rd with a 7 p.m. kickoff!
