LADY BULLDOGS MOUNT COMEBACK AGAINST VALLEY

YOUNGSTOWN, OH- The Valley Christian Lady Eagles Volleyball Team is becoming a force to be reckoned with.  However, the experience of the East Palestine team they faced on Tuesday night proved to be a bit too much, the Lady Bulldogs took the match 21-25, 25-18, 25-19, 25-22.

In the first set, the Lady Eagles caught East Palestine by surprise, and it was apparent in body language on the opposing side of the net.  Valley had big-time players step up in that first set like Di Di Tensley, Savannah Kitchen, Naudia Beck, and Kyiel Turner.  The rotation for Coach Ron Voitus consisted of just 7 players due to illness, but they made waves in the first set and had a convincing victory.

For East Palestine, the senior leadership of Gia Brestelli and Sophia Foster kept the Lady Bulldogs grounded, and tenacious while on the comeback trail.  Brestelli had several moments throughout the match from the service position where she showed poise and grace on her way to a 18 point, 10 dig performance.  Foster continued to be a force on the front line with 15 kills, and an ace.  Mackenzie Parker was an assist machine with 19 on the night, while EP’s representative for Baird Brothers Big Dog of the Valley, Mia Lee filled up the stat sheet with 14 kills and 13 digs.

East Palestine (4-2) will take a breath and take on the Academy for Urban Scholars on Wednesday at home.

VALLEY’S OFFENSE FINDS WIND BENEATH THEIR WINGS

CAMPBELL OH- Valley Christian flexed their offensive muscles Saturday night with a big win over McDonald 53-34.

Both teams came into the night off of some big losses. Valley Christian lost to LaBrae last Saturday 41-21 and McDonald is coming off a loss to Columbiana with an offense that has struggled to find a rhythm in the early part of the season. Joey Battista’s great night for Valley Christian started off with a pass bouncing off the hands of Jhordan Peete and then intercepted by McDonald’s Zach Schobel at the 11-yard line. Logan Hawk needed just one play to run the ball into the end zone and open up the scoring for the Blue Devils. They would go on to put up 31 points, but it was not enough to take down Andy Hake’s Eagles. Turnovers were the story of the night and a scoop and score gave all the momentum to Valley Christian early on and they rolled with it all the way to the finish line never letting up. The Blue Devils defensively were unable to stop the Eagles offense as Valley Christian put up 53 points in route to a dominant victory Saturday night.

Ve’Shaun Gurley and Cam Davenport would show up as the two biggest stars of the night as they combined for 4 total touchdowns. Ve’Shaun Gurley had two of the longest plays of the night getting back-to-back receptions accounting for 98 yards and a touchdown. Cam Davenport collected 3 scores along the way. He scored on the second drive of the game after a Gurley reception inside the redzone setup the offense at the 18 and allowed Davenport to drive in for a score. He wasn’t finished there and went on to collect another rushing touchdown and 2 fumble recoveries, one of which he took 84 yards to the house.

Valley Christian moved to (2-1) on the season and are off to an impressive start. They hit the road next week to start conference play against the (2-1) United Golden Eagles. McDonald is struggling to find their groove this season as they are now (0-3) on the young season and will start MVAC Scarlet play with a visit to the (2-1) Mineral Ridge Rams.

EAGLES GRAB VICTORY OVER VALLEY

HANOVERTON OH- The United Eagles regathered themselves after losing the first set on Thursday to beat Valley Christian in four sets. (21-25 25-15 25-17 25-10)

Tori Tschappatt finished with 15 points and served up 5 aces. Madelynn Lucas also was impressive with 12 points and 4 aces.

United continues their season on Saturday as they travel to Lordstown. Valley Christian is also on the road Saturday as they travel to Waterloo.

VIKINGS STORM THE GATES AND BEAT VALLEY

CAMPBELL OH. The Valley Christain Eagles faced off against the Labrae Vikings at the John Knapick field in Campbell, Ohio.

This was a lopsided win for the Vikings as they started the game by marching 85 yards to strike first and wouldn’t look back after that as they would lead 34-0 at the half. The Valley Christain Eagles led by first year head coach Andy Hake, managed to put up 21 points in the second half but it wasn’t enough to come back and win as they would fall to Labrae 41-21.

Labrae will look to continue their dominance performance next against Keystone as Valley Christain looks to find the rhythm once again and jump back into the win column next week against Mcdonald.
