JFK EXPLODES IN THE SECOND HALF TO ADVANCE

LIBERTY, OH – Warren JFK, fresh off the bye week played Lowellville in a high scoring game in the second round of the playoffs. Warren JFK’s Cam Hollobaugh would score 8 total touchdowns(7 rushing, 1 passing) in a run-heavy victory while Lowellville’s Wide Receiver Cole Bunofsky caught 4 touchdowns for the Rockets. The Eagles beat the Rockets 65-33.

Lowellville would get on the scoreboard first with a 28 yard touchdown pass to Wide Receiver Cole Bunofsky from Quarterback Vinny Ballone to make the game 7-0 early in the first quarter. Warren JFK would answer with a 7 yard touchdown run by Running Back Jesse Likens to tie the game at 7. The second quarter was a shootout with both teams scoring back and forth. Hollobaugh would score 3 rushing touchdowns and pass for an additional in the second quarter while Cole Bunofsky scored two more receiving touchdowns in the quarter. The Eagles lead 36-26 going into halftime.

The second half was all Eagles with 4 additional touchdown rushes by Hollobaugh to increase their lead with Rockets Ballone finding Senior Cole Bunofsky one more time in the fourth quarter. Warren JFK beat Lowellville 65-33. Warren JFK will face the winner of Southern vs. St Mary’s for the next round of the playoffs. Catch all the playoff action for Warren JFK here on YSNLIVE.com.

LOWELLVILLE BLASTS OFF INTO ROUND 2

STRUTHERS OH- The matchup between 16th seeded Lowellville, and 17th seeded Valley Christian proved to be the most competitive game on Friday night. Lowellville fought off a late Valley surge to prevail 30-26.

Vinny Ballone continued to impress as he threw for 274 yards on 22-48 passes. He found the endzone 3 times through the air as well. He also ran for 104 yards with a touchdown. Anthony Sanchez, Alex Modelski, and Brady Bunofsky all caught touchdowns for the Rockets.

The Eagles got the first score of the game from Vershawn Gurley. After trailing 16-6, they got a score on the ground from Jon’Tae Panbellon. Jon’Trell Mixon had a big day on both sides of the ball. He brought the Eagles back in the game with a pick six in the fourth quarter.

Lowelville wikl advance to travel to Warren JFK next Friday. That game will be played at Liberty due to the Warren Harding playoff game being played at the time. Valley Christian has a regular season game scheduled against Wellsville.

RAMS STAY ON FIRE AGAINST LOWELLVILLE

MINERAL RIDGE OH- Coming Off their big win in week 5 of them undefeated Jackson Milton, Mineral Ridge kept rolling with another dominating victory over Lowellville 48-8. Ridge jumped ahead early and never looked back.

Shakir Perkins ran the ball 11 times and still gained 101 yards while punching it in the end zone 4 times. Mark Bunch threw the ball accurately for the Rams. He went 8-15 for 149 yards and a touchdown. Mineral Ridge’s defense forced 5 Rocket turnovers.

Vinny Ballone finished with 44 yards on 12 carries. He also went 9-30 with a touchdown as the Rockets struggled all night in the game.

Mineral Ridge will host Wellington in round 1 of the OHSAA playoffs on Friday. Lowellville will also host a first round game on Friday as they’ll play host to Valley Christian.

TIGERS KEEP THINGS ROLLING

NEW MIDDLETOWN OH- Another week, another dominating Springfield victory on the gridiron. This one came at the expense of the Lowellville Rockets with a final score of 62-18.

Springfield’s offense exploded with 419 yards, including the standout Junior QB, Beau Brungard throwing for over 250 yards, and five touchdowns in the victory.  Seandelle Gardner was a key receiver with 83 yards and a score.

On the ground, Clayton Nezbeth churned out five carries and a touchdown.

Lowellville was still able to put up numbers against Springfield’s defense though. Vinny Ballone went 21-45 with 260 yards, and he also caught a 29-yard touchdown pass. Brady Bunofsky has 13 receptions for 149 yards.

Springfield moves on to play Waterloo in Week 5. The Rockets will look to regroup as they’ll host a Sebring team coming off their first win of the season.
