EAST PALESTINE, OH- Don’t look now, but the East Palestine Volleyball Team is on a roll.  The Lady Bulldogs who started the season on shaky ground, have rebounded in a big way and are on a five-game winning streak after their 3-0 win Tuesday night against Southern (25-17, 28-26, 25-20.)

Leading the way for East Palestine was Gia Brestelli’s 19 digs and 9 points (on her birthday) along with Mia Lee’s 18 kills, 4 points, 3 blocks, and an ace to boot.  Other major contributors to the victory were Sophia Foster’s 22 points, 13 digs, 6 kills, and an ace.  Mackenzie Parker chipped in 20 helpers, and Elle Berger posted 6 kills and 5 points for the Lady Bulldogs as well.

ALL 4 ONE

EAST LIVERPOOL, OH- When taking a look at standout area athletes, if you’re truly looking, it won’t be hard to find a soon-to-be household name: Kyia White.  The East Liverpool sophomore might be the area’s best-hidden gem student-athlete we’ve seen in years.  Mostly because of the way she handles herself on and off the court, Kyia tries to steer clear of the limelight, and pushes the attention to her teammates, coaches, and the program itself.

Although still young, and always learning, White has taken a leadership role on the floor for Coach Dan McKinstry’s squad.  A gander at MaxPreps will tell you that White’s serves are good over 97% of the time, and leads the conference and is ranked in the nation in kills, which, sets her offense up for success- and in turn, has helped the Potters get out to a great start this season!

We had a chance to catch up with the vibrant volleyballer in this week’s East Liverpool Potter Profile: All 4 One.

During which, it was the senior leadership stepping up big again for the Brown and White with Gia Brestelli stacking 26 points, and 17 aces, while her fellow senior, Sophia Foster had a historic night with 31 points, 1 assist, and 18 aces- which is a new school record for the program.

LADY BULLDOGS OUTLAST HEARTLAND

EAST PALESTINE, OH- Just one night after suffering a loss to EOAC rival, Columbiana, East Palestine Head Coach Jess Franklin had her team focused, and ready to go against a strong Heartland Christian program.  The Lady Bulldogs came out ready in the first set and set the tone in a 3-2 (25-15, 23-25,25-15, 21-25, 15-6) victory on Wednesday.

Freshman Ceci Foster led the way with 18 points, 10 digs, 8 assists, and 4 aces, while her sister Sophia had 17 digs, 12 points, 6 kills, and 5 aces as well.  Other key contributors for EP were Mia Lee and her 17 dig, 13 point, 11 kill night, and Gia Brestelli’s 17 digs and 4 aces from the service position.  Mackenzie Parker was also clutch with 10 assists, 9 points, and a pair of aces.

The two teams went back and forth in sets, and while it came down to the fifth set, neither team could truly take over the match.  Heartland’s Emma Hall was all over the floor for the Lady Lions and kept the Bulldog defense uneasy in all five sets.  Sophomores Bella Drokin and Elise Winterstellar also created problems for East Palestine, as Winterstellar was a force at the net all evening, and Drokin’s play from deep in her own zone, including her serves were key in keeping pace.

East Palestine (2-2) will now eye up Lisbon on Saturday Morning at 11 in the Devil Dome in an effort to create their first winning record of the season.
