WEST BRANCH GIRLS BASKETBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 1 ) WITH WALT DESHIELDS

BELOIT OH- West Branch has arguably been the standard of success in girls basketball in the area during the coaching career of Walt DeShields.  A season that was hindered last season by a few injuries still ended up with a trip to the district tournament. After starting 4-10, the Warriors ended the season 9-2 which means they’re bringing a ton of momentum into the new year.

Coach DeShields took the time to talk with Anthony Hartwig and Ty Bartell to give us a solid preview of the season.  He talks about the returning stars, some new faces that will pop up on the team this year, and so much more. Check out Episode 1 of Coach’s Corner with Walt DeShields only on YSN!

BELOIT OH- West Branch girls basketball is one of the few teams in the YSN family that can say they’ve had multiple appearances in state over the last decade. Their most recent coming in 2020.  Although last season, they didn’t quite reach that goal, you can always see the Warriors as a threat to go that far. Last season West Branch finished with a record of 21-6 (9-3). They won a district championship before falling in the regional semifinals. They return a lot of pieces from a season ago, and have added some new weapons. You can always count on West Branch to be a contender. The season will top off for them on November 18 at home against Canton South.

Head coach Walt DeShields is back at it for the green machine.  He graciously took the time to conduct an interview with YSN’s Ty Bartell to give us a solid preview of the upcoming campaign. WEST BRANCH GIRLS BASKETBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 3) WITH WALT DESHIELDS

BELOIT OH- For the sixth time in ten years West Branch girls basketball is moving on to regionals. They won the season series with Marlington with a 47-41 win. A big momentum bringing win for a Warriors team that had lost 4 of the last 5 against the Dukes coming in. Now they’ll carry their momentum into the regional semifinals on Tuesday as they matchup against Norton.

Walt DeShields stopped by Running Point this week to give us a recap of the Warriors district championship, and preview the regional matchup with Norton. BELOIT OH- It is another year, and another district championship game for West Branch. They’ve been in so many over the years it’s almost like they have a permanent seat at the table. The Warriors used a big fourth quarter to beat Poland in the district semifinal to get to this point. It was the 8th time in 10 seasons that the two teams met at some point in the tournament. With the win West Branch eyes another familiar foe in the title game. They’ll have another chance against Marlington, a team they split with in the regular season.

Walt DeShields took the time to chat with the boys on Running Point to discuss the win over Poland, what lies ahead against Marlington, and a lot more. West Branch is gearing up for another shot at regionals Saturday, get ready for it with Episode 2 of Coach’s Corner with Walt DeShields.

BELOIT OH- Tradition is built by success at West Branch, especially in the girls basketball program. It doesn’t take much time in their gym to see the success of their past. Now coming in to a 2021-2022 season, the Warriors have a lot of promise. They have some new faces, and some names that fans will recognize. Rebounding will be a strength for this team that has a ton of height. As head coach Walt DeShields says “sometimes we might look like a boys team with our height.” Coach DeShields is heading in to his 17th season at the helm and has 300 wins. He looks to add a bunch to it, as the program is 18 wins away from 800 total.

Coach DeShields took the time to come on YSN’s Running Point this week to talk about the upcoming season. He chats with Ty Bartell, and Anthony Hartwig about the tradition of West Branch, some new faces to look out for, and much more. Plus a couple of special guests hop on the screen as well. BELOIT OH- West Branch is one of the most successful girls basketball programs in the area, and they have no plans on changing that any time soon. After their trip to the state tournament was cut short by the pandemic last season, the team is hungrier than ever to get back. There are some new faces on the team though, the Warriors lost all but one starter. Head coach Walt DeShields welcomes the challenge that this season brings.
