DRAGONS HOT AT THE PLATE IN WIN OVER WARRIORS

Ashtabula, OH- In a baseball showdown characterized by offensive fireworks, the Edgewood Warriors found themselves on the wrong end of a 14 to 12 slugfest against the Lakeside Dragons on Tuesday at Edgewood Senior High School. Both teams showcased their hitting prowess, combining for an impressive total of 28 runs on 28 hits.

The Lakeside Dragons wasted no time asserting their dominance, opening the scoring in the top of the first inning courtesy of a pair of well-timed singles. Gage Tome’s RBI single set the tone for Lakeside’s explosive offensive display.
However, it was in the second inning that the Dragons truly unleashed their offensive onslaught, tallying six runs on three hits to extend their lead. Contributions from players like Zach Palmer, who delivered a clutch double, and Chase Newsome, who drove in a run with a sacrifice fly, propelled Lakeside to an early advantage.
Despite the deficit, the Edgewood Warriors refused to back down, mounting a spirited comeback effort fueled by standout performances from players like Tony Hall. Hall’s remarkable display at the plate, which included five hits and three RBIs, served as a beacon of hope for the Warriors as they battled to narrow the gap. Also contributing significantly was Zane Naylor’s performance, as he was two for four and drove in three.  Leadoff batter Aidan Hernandez was two for three and scored three runs.
In a game marked by momentum swings and offensive fireworks, both teams traded blows, with neither willing to concede defeat easily. However, it was ultimately the Lakeside Dragons who managed to maintain their edge, fending off the Warriors’ late rally to secure the hard-fought victory.
Anthony Wooten emerged as the hero for Lakeside, earning the win on the mound with a gutsy performance. Despite facing pressure from the Warriors’ lineup, Wooten showcased composure, allowing nine hits and four runs over 5 2/3 innings while striking out five and issuing no walks.
On the other side, Anthony Ciesicki endured a tough outing for the Edgewood Warriors, shouldering the loss after surrendering nine runs, only one earned, over three innings of play. Despite the challenges on the mound, Ciesicki  demonstrated resilience, striking out four batters in his efforts to keep the Warriors within striking distance.
Offensively, the Warriors put up a formidable fight, piling up 13 hits throughout the game. Aiden Hernandez and Logan Kray were among the standout performers for Edgewood, each collecting multiple hits to contribute to the team’s offensive effort.
For the Lakeside Dragons, players like Alex DiSalvatore, Dylan Newsome, and Chase Newsome led the charge, each driving in two runs to bolster their team’s offensive output. With contributions from players up and down the lineup, Lakeside showcased their depth and versatility at the plate.
Despite the loss, the Edgewood Warriors remain undeterred as they look ahead to their next challenge against Ashtabula St. John, on Thursday. Buoyed by their resilience and fighting spirit, the Warriors are determined to bounce back and return to the win column in their pursuit of success on the baseball diamond.

WARRIORS MAKE QUICK WORK OF BEAVER FALLS

NEW CASTLE PA- Mohawk defeats Beaver Falls, 16-0, in three innings to improve to 5-1 on the young season and remain atop the WPIAL 3A2 conference.

The Warriors took 2-0 lead after the first inning thanks to a pair of RBIs from Gianna Pezzuolo and Alivia Hare before opening the floodgates in the second inning.

Mylie Pistorious led the charge for the Warriors in the second inning with a leadoff triple, which was followed by eight RBIs from the Warriors’ lineup, to give Mohawk a 10-0 lead going into the third inning.

Mohawk kept their foot on the gas in the third inning, scoring six more runs, and capped off their dominant performance with an RBI double from Aricka Young to bring home their final two runs before the mercy rule came into effect.

Reagan Magno picked up the win on the mound without allowing a base hit and recorded seven strikeouts through three innings.

Alivia Hare was only a home run shy of the cycle, recording a double, triple, and single, and had three RBIs.

Maya McGreal went 2-3 with a double and also recorded three RBIs.

Gianna Pezzuolo recorded three RBIs as well, two of them coming off an RBI triple in the second inning.

Addy Moskal was the only Warrior without a base hit, but still had an efficient day at the plate, recording three walks.

WARRIORS CLIP ELLWOOD CITY

ELLWOOD CITY, PA- In a game that unfolded under a clear blue sky, the Mohawk Warriors claimed a solid victory over Ellwood City with a 6-1 scoreline on Monday. The game saw a display of strategic play and strong pitching from the Warriors that ultimately left the home team struggling to find their rhythm.

The game began quietly with both teams held scoreless in the first inning. Ellwood City briefly took the lead in the second inning thanks to a double by Roth, who later scored, but that would be the only time they’d see home plate. The Warriors, unshaken by their slow start, found their stride in the fourth inning, unleashing a burst of energy that would see them take control of the game.

Vince Pezzuolo, starting pitcher for the Warriors, threw a solid five innings, allowing only one run and striking two out, showcasing both control and stamina. His performance on the mound was backed by a cohesive defensive display, keeping the Ellwood errors to a minimum.

The turning point came in the fourth inning when the Warriors loaded the bases and Jackson Chapman hit a sacrifice fly to bring home the first run. This sparked a series of strategic hits and base running that saw two more runs come in, giving the Warriors a lead they would not relinquish. Keigan Hopper’s double was a highlight, driving in two crucial runs and demonstrating the depth of the Warriors’ batting lineup.

Mohawk Area continued to build on their lead with one run in the fifth and two more in the sixth, courtesy of smart base running and solid hits by the A&J Connection: JJ Nail and AJ Verdi, who together knocked in three of the six runs. Despite Ellwood City’s best efforts to rally, the Warriors’ pitching held strong, with Chapman and Bobby Fadden closing out the game without giving up any further runs.

Ellwood City’s pitchers, led by Nardone, found themselves under constant pressure, struggling with control and ultimately yielding six runs from eight hits. Their day was characterized by a battle against both the Warriors’ bats and their own command on the mound.

As the game concluded, Mohawk celebrated a well-earned victory, demonstrating not just their skill but their ability to capitalize on crucial moments.

WARRIORS SECURE FIRST VICTORY

BROOKFIELD OH- Arianna Jones collected four hits in four at bats, as Brookfield defeated Memorial 13-5 on Monday. Jones doubled in the first inning, singled in the second inning, singled in the fifth inning, and singled in the fourth inning. Memorial were the first to get on the board in the first inning when Mileena Williams homered to left field, scoring three runs.

Brookfield tied the game in the bottom of the first thanks to a double by Cadence Huffman, a double by Jones, and a single by Madison Obermiyer. They then made the score 7-3 in the bottom of the second after Keilani Malufau singled, scoring one run, Jones singled, scoring one run, and Obermiyer doubled, scoring two runs. A ground out by Jasmine Hubbard extended the lead to 8-3 in the bottom of the third inning.

Obermiyer earned the win for the Warriors. She gave up seven hits and five runs over seven innings, striking out 11 and walking none. Ramani Adams took the loss for Memorial. The starting pitcher went six innings, giving up 13 runs (nine earned) on 16 hits, striking out six and walking none.

Brookfield amassed 16 hits in the game. Obermiyer provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led with four runs batted in. The pitcher went 3-for-4 on the day. Huffman, Malufau, and Hubbard each collected multiple hits.

Williams had a monster day at the plate, and led Memorial with four runs batted in. The number three hitter went 2-for-3 on the day. Williams and Adams each collected two hits.

DRAGONS FALL TO WARRIORS IN FINAL INNING

Ashtabula, OH- In a thrilling showdown on the diamond, Edgewood’s Varsity Warriors clashed with the Lakeside Dragons in a nail-biting baseball matchup that showcased stellar pitching performances and tense moments until the very end. On Monday, both teams brought their A-game, but it was the Edgewood Warriors who emerged victorious, edging out the Lakeside Dragons with a final score of 2-1.

The spotlight shone brightly on the pitchers as Logan Kray took the mound for Edgewood, while Lakeside sent Alex DiSalvatore to the bump. From the outset, it was evident that runs would be at a premium, as both hurlers showcased their prowess on the mound.
Kray proved to be a force to be reckoned with, racking up an impressive 12 strikeouts over six innings of work. Despite facing some pressure, he held Lakeside to just two hits and one run, displaying his command and dominance on the rubber.
Meanwhile, DiSalvatore  kept pace, going toe-to-toe with Kray. He pitched a solid seven innings, allowing just three hits and two runs, one of which was earned. DiSalvatore  showcased his own striking prowess, tallying nine strikeouts while issuing only one walk.
The game remained deadlocked until the late innings when the tension reached its peak. In the second inning, Edgewood managed to scrape across a run thanks to a wild pitch, taking an early lead. However, Lakeside fought back, leveling the score at one apiece in the bottom of the sixth inning with Zach Palmer’s clutch sacrifice fly.
As the game hung in the balance in the top of the seventh, Edgewood seized the opportunity to break the tie. An error by Lakeside allowed the Warriors to push across the decisive run, swinging the momentum in their favor.
Despite Lakeside’s valiant effort at the plate, drawing six walks and displaying aggressive baserunning with four stolen bases, they ultimately fell short in their quest for victory. Zach Palmer’s lone RBI stood as a testament to Lakeside’s resilience, but it wasn’t enough to overcome Edgewood’s pitching prowess and opportunistic offense, with Tony Hall scoring both runs for the Warriors.
The Dragons didn’t go down without a fight, however. Lakeside had the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh with one out, but Alex Sperduto got a pop out and a fly ball out to end the game.
In the end, it was Logan Kray who earned the win for Edgewood, while Alex Desalvator was saddled with the loss for Lakeside. Aiden Hernandez, Logan Rudolph, and Riley Baldwin each contributed with a hit for the victorious Warriors, while Caleb Stitt, Gage Tome, Alex DiSalvatore, and Chase Newsom collected hits for the Lakeside Dragons.
With the dust settled on this thrilling encounter, Edgewood Warriors look ahead to their rematch against the Lakeside Dragons at Walter C Higgins Field at Edgewood High School on Tuesday. As the two teams prepare to square off once again, fans can expect another intense battle on the diamond as both sides seek redemption and bragging rights in this fiercely contested rivalry.

PAOLILLO’S 16 STRIKEOUTS LEAD WARRIORS PAST EAGLES

East Ashtabula, OH- In a clash of rivals on the softball diamond, the Edgewood Warriors secured a resounding victory over Geneva, propelled by a standout performance from Luciana Paolillo. The game, played out on Monday at Edgewood High School, showcased the Warriors’ prowess, ultimately resulting in a three to zero triumph.

Paolillo, a force to be reckoned with in the circle, showcased her dominance by notching an impressive 16 strikeouts over seven innings of play. Her command of the game was evident as she limited Geneva to a mere five hits while denying them any opportunity to cross home plate.
The contest was marked by a formidable display of pitching prowess on both sides, with Geneva’s hurlers managing to strike out 3 of the Warrior batters. However, it was ultimately Paolillo’s masterful performance that proved to be the decisive factor.
Edgewood Warriors wasted no time in establishing their dominance, with their offense coming alive in the bottom of the second inning. A series of well-executed plays, including key singles, paved the way for the Warriors to seize an early lead.
Faith Vencill proved instrumental in putting Edgewood on the scoreboard, driving in a crucial run that set the tone for the remainder of the game. Meanwhile, Gianna Ianetta emerged as a standout performer, delivering clutch hits and driving in two runs from the number eight spot in the lineup.
Addison Lampson further bolstered the Warriors’ offensive charge, leading the team with an impressive 3 for 3 performance at the plate. The Warriors’ disciplined approach extended to the fielding aspect of the game, as they didn’t commit a single error throughout the match.
Despite Geneva’s valiant efforts, including a solid outing from starting pitcher A. Brass, they were unable to overcome the relentless onslaught from the Warriors. Geneva’s offense struggled to gain traction against Paolillo’s formidable pitching, ultimately falling short in their bid to secure a victory.  A Palmasono led Geneva with two hits in three at bats.
While Geneva managed to turn one double play during the game and showcased solid defensive play, it was not enough to counter the relentless offensive onslaught from the Edgewood Warriors.
Looking ahead, the Edgewood Warriors are set to continue their campaign with a home game against Jefferson Area on Tuesday. Buoyed by their impressive performance against Geneva, the Warriors are poised to maintain their winning momentum as they aim for further success in the season ahead.  Geneva is looking to bounce back, taking on Kirtland at the Geneva home field.

WARRIORS PICK UP STATEMENT WIN

BELOIT OH- Both teams were strong in the circle on Sunday, but West Branch defeated McDonald 3-1. Ellie Tucker started the game for West Branch and recorded 15 outs.

McDonald opened the scoring in the second after Aubrey Evans doubled, scoring one run. Then, Brynn Smith singled, which helped the Warriors tie the game at one in the bottom of the fourth. A RBI ground out by Mati Hawk gave West Branch the lead, 2-1, in the bottom of the fifth.

Tucker earned the win for West Branch. The starting pitcher surrendered four hits and one run over five innings, striking out five and walking one. Bri McCombs opened the game for the Blue Devils. The southpaw surrendered four hits and three runs (one earned) over five and one-third innings, striking out three and walking two. Klary McKay collected the save.

Sara Schmidt, Libbie Davis, Addi Craven, Smith, and Josie Milliken each collected one hit for West Branch. Davis, Hawk, and Smith each drove in one run. West Branch turned one double play in the game. Evans went 2-for-3 at the plate as the third baseman led the Blue Devils with one run batted in.

WARRIORS WIN STREAK STAYS IN TACT

CANTON OH- West Branch  was triumphant over Marlington 4-1 on Wednesday under the lights at Thurman Munson Stadium.

West Branch  got on the board in the top of the first inning after Hunter Shields doubled, and the Dukes committed an error, each scoring one run.

Anthony Perry earned the win for the Warriors. They gave up three hits and one run over six innings, striking out eight and walking two. Sam Yoder took the loss for Marlington. They went five innings, surrendering four runs (three earned) on seven hits, striking out six and walking one. Aaron Tucker collected the save.

Beau Alazaus, Shields, and Charlie Biskup each drove in one run for the Warriors. Shields led with three hits in four at bats. West Branch was clean on defense and didn’t commit a single error in the field. Shields had the most chances in the field with eight.

Garett Dillon led the  Dukes with one run batted in. He went 1-for-2 on  the day.  Tatem Hoffman made the most of their chances at the plate. The number seven hitter led the team with two hits in three at bats. Marlington also turned one double play in the game.

WEST BRANCH TURNS THE OFFENSE ON IN CARROLLTON

CARROLLTON OH- West Branch defeated Carrollton 9-2 on Wednesday thanks in part to five runs in the fourth inning. Josie Milliken doubled, scoring two runs, Mati Hawk tripled, scoring two runs, and Sara Schmidt hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run.

West Branch opened the scoring in the first after Schmidt doubled, scoring one run. They scored three more runs in the top of the third on a home run to left field by Addi Craven.

Klary McKay started in the circle for the Warriors. The starting pitcher gave up seven hits and two runs (one earned) over seven innings, striking out four and walking one.

Craven provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led West Branch with three runs batted in. The infielder went 1-for-4 on the day. Hawk went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead in hits. Ellie Tucker paced the lineup with three walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, piling up five walks for the game.

WARRIORS ZAPPED BY BLUE STREAKS

The highlight reel moment came in the pivotal fourth inning, where the Blue Streaks unleashed a torrent of offense, notching an astounding ten runs to secure their triumph.
The opening salvo was fired by the Blue Streaks as Nathan Yarnell ignited the scoreboard with a well-placed single, ushering in the first run of the game. However, the Warriors swiftly retaliated in the bottom of the first inning. Tony Hall’s clutch double coupled with Caleb Johnson’s sharp single, combined with a crucial error by the Blue Streaks, allowed Edgewood to seize the lead momentarily, sending the home crowd into a frenzy.
But the game took a dramatic turn in the fourth inning when Madison’s bats came alive with a vengeance. Displaying remarkable offensive prowess, the Blue Streaks unleashed a relentless barrage, notching an imposing ten runs fueled by four hits.
