LOWELLVILLE ESCAPES WATERLOO’S UPSET BID

ATWATER OH- Things got a little too close for comfort for Lowellville on Friday night. Waterloo gave them all they could handle. However, Lowellville was able to make enough plays to survive and win 31-28.

The win keeps Lowellville at 5-1 on the year. They’ll try to keep winning in Week 7 as they travel to Sebring. Waterloo will also be on the road. They’ll have upset on their mind as they travel to Springfield.

MCDONALD HOLDS DOWN VIKINGS

MCDONAKD OH- McDonald got a win inside the MVAC on Thursday to move to 8-2 in the league. McDonald quickly swept Waterloo to close out their week. (25-14 25-14 25-14)

Maria Rasile led the offense with 14 kills on the night. She also compiled 9 assists. Megan Klockner had a great night finishing with 20 assists, and 7 kills, and served up 4 aces. Sheryaliz led the defense with 12 digs.

Both teams will be home on Tuesday to continue league play. McDonald will host Springfield, and Waterloo will host Lowellville.

TIGERS HOLD OFF VIKINGS COMEBACK

ATWATER OH- Springfield had to fight back on Tuesday night after Waterloo forced a fourth set. The Tigers dug deep and were able to take care of the fourth set to win the match. (25-10 25-22 25-27 25-17)

Madi Lesnak had a monster night on the attack finishing with 21 kills. Jameka Brungard was also in double figures with 10 kills. Sara Pontius did a good job setting up the offense, finishing with 17 assists. She completed a double double with 10 digs. Jacey Mullen led the defense with 19 digs.

Springfield returns to action Wednesday as they host Cardinal Mooney. Waterloo stays at home, and they’ll host McDonald on Thursday.

BLUE DEVILS BREAK OUT THE BROOMS

BERLIN CENTER OH- Western Reserve continued their dominance inside the MVAC on Tuesday with a three set sweep of Waterloo. (25-21 25-16 25-9)

Gianna Paris had straight mines on the stat sheet finishing with 9 kills, 9 assists, and 9 digs. Alyvia Hughes swung well and finished with 7 kills, 13 digs, and 3 aces. Grace Baird led the team in assists, and aces. She finished with 15 assists, and 4 aces.

Western Reserve will travel to McDonald on Thursday with first place on the line. Reserve swept the first matchup between the two teams. Waterloo will travel to Sebring on Thursday.

WATERLOO BRINGS HOME HOMETOWN TROPHY

ATWATER OH- Rivalry games are supposed to come down to the wire, and the matchup between Sebring and Waterloo did not disappoint. Bobby Makin pushed across the goal line on 4th and goal to give Waterloo the winning score, making it 30-22.

Mason Duncan was a monster in the backfield for the Vikings, on 19 carries he gained 163 yards. Bobby Makin also put in a solid day running the ball 13 times gaining 82 yards and finding the endzone twice. Jayden Hakin also scored a pair of touchdowns.

Elijah Frederick put in a great effort despite the loss. He ran 217 yards on 12 touches and scored twice. Noah Frederick ran for 109 yards on 18 carries with a touchdown.

Waterloo is now 2-2 and will look to stay in the win column in Week 5 traveling to Western Reserve. Sebring hits the road as well as they will travel to McDonald on Friday.

RIDGE PUTS VIKINGS UNDERWATER

ATWATER OH- Mineral Ridge wasted no time on Tuesday night with a straight sweep of Waterloo in three sets. (25-11 25-11 25-15)

With the victory the Rams improved to 4-2 on the season and 3-2 in the conference. The Rams were led by Sammie Aulet with 11 digs and 21 assists, Ava Hulett with 13 kills and 9 digs and Faith Schneider with 8 kills and 5 aces.

Both teams await conference opponents on Thursday as Mineral Ridge will travel to McDonakd, and Waterloo will host Jackson Milton

TIGERS AND VIKINGS END THRILLER IN A TIE

NEW MIDDLETOWNN OH- Springfield fell behind early to Waterloo Wednesday night when Mackenzie Webb scored for the Vikings less than one minute into the game. Kaira English and Olivia Boyle each put in a goal before the Tiger’s Gracie Venturella put one on the scoreboard making it 3-1 in favor of the Vikings at the half. English added another in the second half giving Waterloo a 4-1 advantage. Springfield finished with a flurry a break aways and shots as Sami Shafer, Brionna Holt, and Kaila LaMorticella each scored late to tie the game at four a piece. Venturella for the tigers and English for the Vikings each added an assist.

Caitlin Cappelli had 4 saves for Springfield and Grace Yarian had 10 for Waterloo.

Springfield returns to action Saturday as they travel to United. Waterloo hosts Brookfield on Wednesday September 8th.

BLUE DEVILS BOUNCE WATERLOO

MCDONALD OH- The McDonald Blue Devils moved to 2-1 on the MVAC with a dominating sweep of Waterloo. (25-12 25-12 25-11)

Gianna Constantino got herself in to double figures finishing with 10 kills on the night for the Blue Devils. She also finished with 4 digs. Maria Rasile and Megan Klockner split the setting duties, Rasile finished with 16 assists while Klockner had 12. Klockner also had 3 kills, and 2 aces. Rasile added 6 kills, and a block.

McDonald will continue their MVAC campaign on Thursday as they travel to Springfield.

VIKINGS TAKE DOWN MINERAL RIDGE

LAKE MILTON OH- The Waterloo golf team shined the brightest on Monday at Olde Dutch Mill as they out shot the Mineral Ridge Rams 177-199.

Luke Simons led the Vikings shooting a 42. Trevor Simons was also impressive shooting a 44. Noah Hughes tied up Trevor finishing with a 44. Rounding out the Vikings scoring was Drake Miller who turned in a 47, Hunter Rothermel, and Jackson Eichler both finished with a 48.

2021 WATERLOO FOOTBALL PREVIEW
