TAKING CARE OF THE TIGER OFFENSE

NEW MIDDLETOWN, OH – The Springfield Lady Tigers volleyball team is in high spirits as they prepare for their pivotal tournament match against Jackson Milton this Saturday at 1:00 PM. Leading the charge is senior captain Karigan Mullen, who has recently shattered the school record for assists in a single season with a remarkable 761 assists. This achievement adds to her career milestone of 1,000 assists, propelling her into the spotlight as a key player for the Lady Tigers.

Karigan Mullen, a seasoned veteran on the team, is a crucial force both on and off the court. “These girls, the seniors, they are my best friends on and off the court, so being able to play with them definitely means a lot,” Mullen shared during a recent episode of the YSN podcast, hosted by Steve Leslie. The camaraderie and teamwork have been cornerstones of their successful season, boasting a commendable 15-7 record. The Lady Tigers face a tough competitor in Jackson Milton, a team they have split games with this season. As they gear up for the big match, Mullen emphasizes the importance of focus and effort. “We gotta do what we know we need to do. It’s gonna take a lot of effort. They’re a good team. They’re a scrappy team. So we just gotta really fight for every point,” said Mullen, highlighting the determination and resilience needed to secure a victory.

The team also celebrates another milestone, with underclassman Baelyn Braungard achieving 1,000 digs for her career, showcasing the depth of talent within the squad. Head Coach Caitlin Barber, praised by Mullen as an “amazing coach,” has played a vital role in guiding the team through a challenging season filled with ups and downs and preparing them for tournament success. Springfield’s tight-knit community and the strong support system from families and friends provide an additional boost for the Lady Tigers. Mullen’s parents, regular attendees at her games, are among her biggest supporters. “My parents definitely are my number one supporters. They come to everything they can,” Mullen expressed, highlighting the significant role her family plays in her athletic journey.

As the Lady Tigers step onto their home court this Saturday, they aim not only for a victory but also to make a notable run in the tournament. The Springfield community is called upon to come out in full force to support their team. “Tiger Nation, you need to get out and support these girls in full force,” urged Leslie. The stage is set for an exciting match at Tiger gymnasium. With the leadership of standout players like Mullen and Braungard and the guidance of Coach Barber, the Springfield Lady Tigers are ready to fight for every point and make their community proud.

SOUTH RANGE FOOTBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 8) WITH DAVE RACH

CANFIELD, OH- As the scent of autumn fills the air and the leaves begin to turn, the South Range Raiders football team braces itself for the final hurdle before the playoffs. In an engaging discussion at Giangelo’s for the South Range Raiders Show, Coach Dave Rach opened up about the team’s relentless drive and the challenges ahead.

With an impressive undefeated streak, the Raiders recently clinched a crucial victory over Niles at Beau Rhine Stadium, a feat Coach Rach attributes to the team’s daily commitment to improvement. “Our guys know how special Friday nights are,” said Rach. “We want to get our money’s worth every time we lace them up.”

Looking ahead to their next matchup against Louisville, Rach emphasized the importance of treating every game like a playoff bout. Transitioning from conference to non-conference games, the Raiders are not allowing themselves any room for complacency. “We’re at the point where every game feels like a playoff game,” Rach noted. Facing Louisville, a team with a deceptively challenging record and significant on-field talent, South Range aims to test and prove its mettle one more time before entering the postseason.

Furthermore, Rach highlighted the value of senior leadership within the team, singling out Shaun Updegraff and Hunter Cooper for their contributions both on and off the field. Despite an injury sidelining Cooper, his commitment to supporting his teammates has not waned, providing a morale and strategic boost during practices.

While the focus remains on football, Rach’s lighter side was revealed as the conversation shifted to Halloween. Ranking the holiday’s favorite movies and expressing his unique array of fears—from snakes to clowns—Rach’s responses offered a humorous respite from the intense football discourse.

With only one regular season game left, the South Range Raiders are zeroing in on the playoffs with a sense of purpose and unwavering focus. As they prepare to face the Louisville Leopards, Coach Rach and his squad are poised to showcase the growth and resilience that have defined their season.
