TIGERS SCORE LATE TO ESCAPE LISBON

LISBON OH- Late in the game Friday night Lisbon took a 21-20 lead. However, a connection between Valen Kzryston, and Garrett Krzyston scored what ended up being the game winning touchdown to give the Tigers a 28-21 win on the road.

Valen Kzryston went 9/13 through the air with 122 yards and 2 touchdowns. Isaiah Greathouse had 68 yards on 16 carries. Garrett Kzryston caught 5 passes for 100 yards.

Trevor Siefke ran for 37 yards and threw for 203. He went 14/20 through the air. He threw for 3 touchdowns.

Wellsville has a big test next week against a United. Lisbon will travel to Leetonia next week to play in the Spaghetti Bowl.

WELLSVILLE FALLS SHORT IN FIRST PLACE BATTLE

WELLSVILLE OH- A place at the top of the EOAC was on the line in Wellsville Friday night as the Tigers hosted Southern. It was a physical, and competitive game, but eventually Southern would come out on top 32-20.

Isaiah Greathouse led the ground game for Wellsville gaining 99 yards on 14 carries. Valen Krayston went 13-18 for 153 yards through the air. He had a pair of touchdowns, one on the ground, and one through the air.

Wellsville travels to Lisbon to try and get back to winning in Week 7.

WELLSVILLE CRUISES BY BLUE DEVILS

LISBON OH- Wellsville continued their dominant run across the EOAC on Tuesday night by sweeping Lisbon on the road. (25-8 25-13 25-12)

Presley Stokes led the Tigers with 12 kills on the night. She also had 6 aces, and 3 blocks. Emily McNicol put up 13 assists, and a pair of kills. Alana Amato was also in double figures with 10 kills. Aubri Ramsey led the defense with 10 digs.

McKenna Dailey had a match high 11 digs for Lisbon. Eliza Blazer had 3 points, 2 kills, and 8 digs.

Wellsville will continues EOAC play on Thursday as they travel to Valley Christian. Lisbon will venture out of the conference on Wednesday as they travel to Toronto.

ROCKETS CLEARED FOR LAUNCH IN WELLSVILLE

Wellsville, OH- Lowellville traveled to Wellsville in what was the Tigers first game of the season. The Rockets took advantage of the situation. Lowellville forced 4 turnovers on defense and only gave up 147 yards of offense by the Tigers. The Rocket offense was led by Vinny Ballone who had 4 combined touchdowns and 221 yards passing. The Rockets beat the Tigers 33-6.

Lowellville took the lead first when Ballone found Brady Bunofsky for a 38 yard touchdown pass to give them the lead 7-0 in the first quarter. Vinny Ballone would find Michael Ballone on the next possession for a 1 yard touchdown pass to extend their lead to 13-0 going into the locker room. The Rockets would continue their scoring clinic in the third quarter taking a commanding 27-0 lead.

Wellsville would get on the scoreboard in the third quarter however when Jaden Allen rushed into the endzone from 2 yards out to give the Tigers their first touchdown of the season. Lowellville (3-0) will host Springfield (2-1) in a highly anticipated matchup next week. Wellsville (0-1) will travel to Columbiana (2-1). Catch both games here on YSNLive.com.

LADY TIGERS CLAW PAST EAST PALESTINE

EAST PALESTINE, OH- Wellsville walked into Bulldog Country and took down East Palestine in their season opener in straight sets (25-18, 25-9, 25-20) on Tuesday.

Freshman, Presley Stokes, led the way with 19 kills and two blocks on the night.

Alana Amato also showcased her talent with five aces, four kills, and four digs while Aubri Ramsey had four kills and three aces.  Other Tiger contributions came from Sam Drysdale with four blocks and two kills, while Gia Pucci and Paige Green combined for 8 aces.

For East Palestine, Gia Brestelli tallied 7 points and had a pair of aces in her pocket, while Mia Lee had 9 kills.  Senior Sophia Foster had five points and earned the golden shovel with 18 digs defensively for the Lady Bulldogs.  Leading the way in assists for EP was Mackenzie Parker with seven.

East Palestine turns their attention to United on Thursday when they return to action.

HOSCHAR HOLDS TIGERS TO ONE HIT; CLIPPERS ROLL

WELLSVILLE, OH- Logan Hoschar (2-1) allowed just one hit and one unearned run as the Clippers bested the Wellsville Tiger 20-1 on Tuesday.  With the win, Columbiana moves to 13-4 on the season and 9-0 in the EOAC.

Hoschar was perfect through four and allowed just a bloop single in his five innings of work.  Hoschar did not allow a walk and struck out 11 on the day.

At the plate, the Clippers pounded out 20 hits.  Columbiana scored 9 runs in the first and 8 runs in the second to take a commanding lead.  Alex Eusebio led the way with four hits including a double and three RBI.  Zach Pleska (2-3, 3 RBI), Joe Wilczak (2-4, 2 RBI), Seth Spooner (2-3, 2 RBI), Eddie Clancy (2-4, 2 RBI), Logan Hoschar (2-3, 2 RBI) and Bayden Pipoly (2-2, 1 RBI) all collected multiple hits.  Pipoly, Hoschar, and Riley McElwain each doubled.

Columbiana will travel to Hubbard on Thursday to take on the Eagles in a non-conference matchup.  First pitch is scheduled for 5 PM.

CLIPPERS TAKE OFF ON WELLSVILLE

COLUMBIANA OH-

Zachary Pleska had all the right stuff on Monday for Columbiana, allowing zero runs and besting Wellsville by a score of 10-0

The Clippers notched four runs in the fourth inning. Columbiana’s offense in the inning came from an error on a ball put in play by Brady Kridler and Tyler Andersen, a triple by Seth Spooner, and a double by Pleska.

Pleska led the Clippers to victory on the hill. The pitcher went five innings, allowing zero runs on one hit, striking out 12 and walking one.

The Clippers collected nine hits. Spooner and Pleska all collected multiple hits. Spooner led Columbiana with three hits in three at bats.

LISBON SHUTS OUT TIGERS

WELLSVILLE OH-

Mya Emmerling didn’t allow a single run against Wellsville, throwing a complete game shutout and leading Lisbon to a 13-0 victory on Tuesday

Emmerling led the Blue Devils to victory by driving in five runs. Emmerling went 3-for-4 at the plate. Emmerling drove in runs on a single in the first, a double in the fourth, and a double in the fifth.

In the first inning, Lisbon got their offense started. They scored one run when Emmerling singled.

The Blue Devils notched five runs in the first inning. Their big bats were led by Emmerling, McKenna Dailey, and Morgan Lively, all driving in runs in the frame.

Emmerling earned the win for the Blue Devils. The fireballer surrendered zero runs on three hits over five innings, striking out five and walking zero.

Lisbon saw the ball well today, racking up 11 hits in the game. Emmerling, Dailey, and Justyce Vrable each collected multiple hits. Emmerling led the way with three hits in four at bats.

HEADED HOME: WELLSVILLE TIGERS BASEBALL PREVIEW

WELLSVILLE, OH – The Wellsville Tigers are back on the diamond and ready to get to work for the upcoming season. Head coach, Justin Gerren, and the Tigers are eager and excited to make a splash in the EOAC this season after their 2020 season was dismantled!

Coach Gerren and the Tigers will lean heavily on their upperclassmen to show the way and teach the underclassmen what it is like to be a Tiger baseball player and what it takes to win in a tough conference! The Tigers will be paced by two seniors, one junior, and a significant amount of sophomores and freshmen that Coach Gerren is excited about because he is able to see the program develop and mature early in these young players’ careers. Wellsville is scheduled to open up their season on season on Monday, March 29th, on the road at Lisbon.

YSN’s own, BIlly McCartney and Quinn Puskar, had the opportunity to meet Coach Gerren this week to discuss the upcoming season of Wellsville baseball, what some of Coach’s expectations are for this season, and a team preview about some of the key players who will be making an impact on the diamond throughout the season!
