SPARTANS OPEN HOME SCHEDULE WITH WIN OVER HARDING

BOARDMAN, OH — The Boardman Spartans kicked off their home schedule with a strong 2-0 win over Warren G. Harding on Tuesday, opening conference play with a shutout victory.

Tyler Kirlik took the mound for the Spartans and delivered a dominant performance despite a few early control issues. The right-hander threw 5 scoreless innings, allowing just 2 hits while striking out 10 to earn the win. Collin Resetar came on in relief and shut the door, tossing 2 clean innings with 4 strikeouts to lock down the save.

At the plate, Boardman was led by Grayson Eicher and Landon Whippo, who each had two hits and a double. Whippo came through in the clutch, driving in both of the team’s runs. Vince Butto added another double, while Kirlik helped his own cause with a base hit.

The Spartans improve to 1-1 overall and 1-0 in the All-American Conference (AAC). They’ll look to keep the momentum rolling when they host defending state champion West Branch on Wednesday.
