SCRAPPERS SURVIVE LATE BLACK BEAR RALLY

NILES, OH- The Mahoning Valley Scrappers stayed undefeated at Eastwood field with a 6-4 victory over West Virginia. The Scrappers took the early lead in the first inning on 4 consecutive base hits to plate 3 runs. The Scrappers had a 5-1 lead heading into the seventh inning, until Black Bears second baseman Blaze Brothers blasted a 3 run home run to cut the lead down to 1 run. The Scrappers countered with a run of their own in the bottom of the seventh, after a lead off triple by Reed Chumley, and then an RBI ground out by Humberto Torres.

West Virginia had the bases loaded in the eight inning with 1 out, until Scrappers reliever Devin Crawford induced two fly outs to get out of the inning unscathed. Crawford would then slam the door shut in the ninth inning with a 5 out save to win the ballgame. Sean Tillmon led Mahoning Valley with 4 hits and a run scored. YSN’s very own Anthony Romo caught up with Tillmon to talk about tonight’s victory. Our team also caught up with manager Homer Bush after the win, and here is what they had to say.

LADY REBS REMAIN PERFECT BEHIND DEFENSIVE EXCELLENCE.

LINSLY, WV- The Crestview Lady Rebels traveled across the state boundaries to play its first OVAC league game of the year. The game was scoreless thru regulation, a defensive battle for both teams.

It wasn’t until the top of the 8th when McKenna Schultz worked a walk, then with one out the Rebels got back to the top of the order when Haley Eskra hit a line drive single to center field, followed by an Olivia Strank single to the shortstop. With the bases loaded Skyler Mattern hit a fly ball to the 3rd for the second out. The next batter Karsyn Moore drew a walk for the first run, followed by yesterday’s hero Kaedyn Sutton ripping a double to left center field to score Eskra & Strank.  Offensively, Olivia Strank led the Rebels with two singles. Kaedyn Sutton picked up the win.

For Linsly Recrosio and Heller each had 2 hits. Smith took the loss. Crestview improves to 4-0 on the season.

Crestview will be hosting a triple header tomorrow with Southeast Ravenna & Girard. Crestview vs Southeast will kick off the day at 11:00 am. This triple headers proceeds will be donated to The 4C’s Food Pantry (Crestview Churches Community Concerns)

The games are set to be broadcast on YSN (subject to weather.)
