WHITING FIRMLY GRASPS FIRST PLACE

STRUTHERS OH- All summer in the Class B alibi Division of 16U, Creekside Fitness has been biting at the ankles of top ranked Whiting Roll-Offs.  However, on Sunday it was Whiting that kept Creekside at bay and stormed to a 8-2 win.

Nathan Craig managed a masterful offensive day going 2-3 with 2 runs scored, a walk, and a RBI.  Corbin Sevcik used the most of a 1-4 day with a RBI along the way.  Kallen Durbin also went 1-4 on the day with a RBI and also managed to score a run.  Aidan Leiendecker had multiple hits going 2-4.

Craig took the win for Whiting has he hurled 6 innings and gave up 0 earned runs on 2 hits.  He struck out 9.

Tyson Tarajack did all he could on the offensive side for Creekside, he went 2-3 with 2 runs scored.  Brady Miller managed to put together a 1-3 day.

ATHLETIX USE WALK OFF TO ANSWER WHITING RALLY

STRUTHERS OH- It was a great battle in Class B 18U action at Cene Park between Athletix and Whiting Roll-Offs. Whiting worked hard to score two runs and tie the game in the top of the seventh inning, but Athletix took the glory away with a walk off in the bottom of the frame to win 5-4.

Jeff Brenner collected multiple hits on the day for Athletix being perfect at the plate going 2-2 with a walk, and 2 runs scored. Seth Spooner went 1-4 but it was a big RBI hit that he made the most of.  Isaiah Torres also went 1-4 with a RBI.  Clay Mitchell finished the day at 1-3 with a run scored.

Nathan Vidmar pitched the bulk of the work for Athletix.  He went 5 innings and gave up 2 runs on 3 hits.  He struck out 4.

Shawn Miller had a superb day for Whiting at the dish. He went a game-high 3-3 with 2 runs scored, and a RBI.  Sal Mineo finished 1-3 with a run scored.  Brady Shannon drew a walk, and went 1-2 with a run scored.

Joe Babuski took the loss for Whiting. He went 4.2 innings giving up 2 earned runs on 4 hits. He was able to strike out 7 batters.

WHITING UPSETS CREEKSIDE

STRUTHERS, OH- The Whiting Roll-Offs pulled off one of the biggest upsets of the season in the 18U division of the Youngstown Class B League. Whiting entered the ballgame as the last seed in the league, but struck early to beat the number 2 seeded Creekside Fitness on Saturday night.

The Roll-Offs put up a crooked number of 5 runs in the first frame to jump out in front of Creekside. Both Anthony Malagise and Brady Shannon tripled and scored in the first, followed by a 2 RBI single by catcher Nick Vitale. Creekside got on the board in the fifth inning with one of the most uncommon plays in baseball, the inside the park homer run. Creekside designated hitter Andrew Cupan smashed a ball all the way to the right field wall, and hustled around the bases for an inside the park home run. Whiting would get some much needed insurance in the sixth inning with a run scored by Nick Kingerski to make it 6-1. Creekside made it interesting in the seventh inning, putting together a 4 run inning to make it a one run lead, but Malagise induced a ground out to squeeze by Creekside by a final of 6-5.

Roll-Offs starting pitcher Logan Creamer was phenomenal tossing 6 innings and allowing just 2 hits, while striking out 7 batters. Creamer picks up his second win of the season, and pulls off the thrilling upset on Saturday. Creekside and Whiting both return to action tomorrow at Bob Cene Park. EAGLE WEAR SCORES LATE TO EARN VICTORY


STRUTHERS OH- Eagle Wear faced off with Whiting on Wednesday in a tight game in 18U Class B action. A great defensive performance on both sides opened up in the bottom of the 6th where Eagle Wear put up three runs. Those three runs to take the lead helped Eagle Wear walk away with a 4-3 victory.

Both Matthew Strank and Joseph Carosella came up huge for Eagle Wear at the plate. Strank went 2-3 on the day with 2 RBIs. Carosella went 2-3 with a run scored and an RBI. Eagle Wear put up 4 runs on 7 hits, and 4 RBIs as a team.

Sam Amodeo went the full distance and got the win on the mound for Eagle Wear. In his 7 IP, he allowed 3 runs on 5 hits. He put up 9 strikeouts on the day.

Brady Shannon and Brennen Porter both led Whiting at the plate, going 1-2 with a run scored and an RBI each. Whiting finished with 3 runs on 5 hits, and 3 RBIs as a team.

Jacob Warner took the loss for Whiting. He went 5 IP, giving up 3 earned runs on 7 hits. He struck out 2 on the day.

FOURTH INNING EXPLOSION LIFTS DURA EDGE PAST WHITING

STRUTHERS, OH- Dura Edge and Whiting met in an 18U Youngstown Class B match-up on Monday night. Both teams struggled defensively, which ignited Dura Edge to victory by a final of 9-4.

Dura Edge got the ball rolling in the first on back to back RBI singles by Camden Sergi and Tom Schubert. Whiting would counter with 2 runs in the 3rd inning to tie the ballgame on an RBI single by Brennan Porter. Dura Edge exploded offensively in the fourth inning, with 6 runs on 5 hits in the frame, taking a 9-3 lead. Whiting scored 1 run in the fifth on an RBI double by Porter, but that was not enough, as Dura Edge kept the lead to win it 9-4.

ONE RUN IS ALL WHITING NEEDS FOR VICTORY

STRUTHERS OH- It’s not very often you come across a true pitcher’s duel in baseball anymore. With so much focus on offense, a 1-0 has become an anomaly. For Whiting, and Prospects 18U teams it apparently needed to happen. Both teams were electric on the mound, but Whitibg came out on top 1-0.

Brady Shannon got the game winning RBI going 1-3 on the day.  He knocked in Cooper Vance who went 1-2 with a walk. Anthony Malagise led Whiting in hits going 2-2.

It was the pitcher’s who shined the brightest in this battle. Shannon got the win for Whiting. He went 2 innings and gave up 0 runs on 0 hits.  Marc Conti took the bulk of the work throwing 4 innings and giving up 0 runs on 3 hits. He struck out a pair.

Although Prospects only managed 4 hits, they did draw 6 walks. Robert Gumino went 1-2 with a walk on the day.  A.J Stallsmith had identical numbers going 1-2 with a walk.  Olindo Pezzone went 1-3 on the day.

Nick Church took the loss as he tossed all 6 innings and gave up 1 run on 5 hits.  He struck out 6 hitters, and used 92 pitches to get through the game. That’s an average of just over 15 pitches per inning.

 

KNIGHTLINE EARNS VICTORY IN PITCHER’S DUEL

STRUTHERS OH- Everything was magnified on Saturday in a matchup between Knightline and Whiting Roll-Offs in the 18U division.  Neither offense had much breathing room, but it was Knightline who came out on top 3-1 thanks to a two run 3rd inning.

Chance Lazcko got a big hit for Knightline going 1-2 on the day with a RBI. Anthony Massucci mirrored those numbers on a 1-2 day and a RBI.  Alex Grzyb collected multiple hits going 2-3 with a run scored.  Gavin Shrum added a RBI to the cause.

Grzyb took the win, and the complete game on the hill. He pitched well, giving up just 1 run on 5 hits and striking out 10.

Sal Mineo had the lone RBI for Whiting. He went 1-3 on the day.  Cooper Vance put together multiple hits on a 2-3 showing.  Shane Roper went 1-1 and scored the only run of the day for Whiting.

Isaac Librich took the loss despite pitching quite well on the mound. He went 4 innings and gave up 3 runs on 5 hits. He struck out 4 batters.

ATHLETIX WIN A THRILLER

STRUTHERS OH- In a high scoring affair on Monday night it was the Athletix that landed the last punch.  They used a 5 run 5th inning to pull away, and then held off a late rally.

Bayden Pipoly proved to be a problem for Whiting pitching as he went 2-4 with a run scored.  He also knocked in a RBI.  Nathan Vidmar put together a good day as well going 1-4 with a RBI.  Sabastian Rosado-Guindin went 2-3 on the day with a RBI and a run scored.  Seth Spooner finished 1-3 with a walk and a run scored.

Rosado Guindin got the win on the mound throwing 5 innings giving up 5 runs on 5 hits.  He managed to strike out 10.

Christian Anterock led Whiting’s offense going 1-4 with 2 RBI.  Evan Levkulich also went 1-4 with 2 RBI on the day.  Nick Kingerski collected multiple hits going 2-4 with a run scored.

Kingerski took the loss on the mound. He threw 2 innings and gave up 0 runs on 0 hits.  He struck out 1.

WHITING’S OFFENSE STAYS IN TOP FORM

STRUTHERS OH- Whiting Roll-Off’s continued to look impressive on offense on Sunday as they racked up 12 runs against a solid Astro Falcons pitching staff.  They rolled to a 12-2 win.

Caison Holland was a big bat for Whiting. He went 3-4 on the day with a pair of RBI.  Aiden Leiendecker went 2-5 with another 2 RBI. Nick Parrotto mirrored those numbers himself going 2-5 with 2 RBI.  Corbin Sevcik went 2-5 with 2 runs scored. Owen Keister had multiple hits as well going 2-4 with a run scored and a RBI.

Nathan Craig took the complete game victory for Whiting. He went 7 innings giving up 1 earned run on 5 hits.  He struck out 4 batters.

Kolten Ruark and Sam Castronova both went 1-3 with 1 RBI.  Dylan Mancini was perfect at the plate going 1-1 with a walk. Chandler Maurice sent 1-3 as well.

Shawn Kristophel took the bulk of the work for the Falcons. He went 4 innings giving up 3 earned runs on 6 hits. He struck out 3.

 

WHITING EDGES EAGLE WEAR

STRUTHERS OH- It was a tight one on Friday night between Whiting Roll Offs and Eagle Wear in 18U class B action. It was Whiting that got the clutch hit in extras to walk off the game and get the win 3-2.

Keegan Book led Whiting’s offense with a 2-3 night at the plate adding a RBI, a walk, and a run scored. Liam Maclroy went 1-4 on the day with the team’s 2nd RBI.  JJ Nail got Whiting’s 4th and final hit going 1-3 with a run scored.

Logan Creamer took the majority of the innings for Whiting going 6 innings giving up 2 runs on 2 hits and striking out 6. Nick Kingerski got the win throwing the final 2 innings giving up 0 runs on 1 hit.

Jason Gruber collected the only RBI of the day for Eagle Wear. He went 1-4. James Campbell went 1-3 on the day with a walk, and a run scored.  Cole Grable also went 1-4 on the day.

Sam Amodeo pitched well despite the loss. He went 7 innings on the bump and gave up 2 earned runs on 4 hits.  He struck out 5.
