TO SERVE AND PROTECT

Typically the guys up front aren’t in the forefront.  However, Ursuline’s Senior-Malcom Joyner is no ordinary big man.  He has exceptional talent that is trumped only by his humility and passion to lead and serve others.

Being the starting left tackle on a varsity football team comes with its own set of pressures and responsibility.  In fact it was Sandra Bullock’s character in The Blindside, Leigh Anne Touhy who said “The first check you write is for the mortgage, but the second is for the insurance. The left tackle’s job is to protect the quarterback from what he can’t see coming. To protect his blind side.

Our Steve Leslie caught up with this sensational young man and third-year starter for the Irish.  Ursuline’s Player Profile for this week is Malcom Joyner: TO SERVE AND PROTECT

COOL HAND LUKE

If you put “Money” into your Twitter handle, you had better be on point.  For Ursuline Irish Senior, Luke Pipala- LP Money is the straw that stirs the drink!

The receiving corps for the Irish have been flooded with talent this year and leading the way has been the golden 12 streaking across the field on Friday nights.  But that’s not the whole story for Luke, as he has an incredible work ethic, and a great head on his shoulders that has helped the Irish to success over his tenure in green and gold.

The biggest headache for opposing coaches is the fact that no matter how big the stage, Pipala stays steady under pressure.  He’s got the slow heartbeat during the heat of battle.

Our Steve Leslie sits down with Pipala in this week’s Ursuline Player Profile- COOL HAND LUKE

Throw the records out the window!  It’s Mooney Week at UHS!  The Holy War is upon us, and a win tonight for the Irish stamps the season a success no matter the win-loss column.

TOMMY BOY

We seemingly talk about it every week.  The rich tradition and heritage of Cardinal Mooney and their football program.

The Cards continue to churn out player after player into the next level, but the school continues to mold young minds into great leaders, and representatives of Youngstown, Ohio.  This week we caught up with Senior Linebacker and Tight End, Tommy DeCesare.  Not only does he exemplify the previous statements, but has great vision on and off the field.

Being a natural optimist has helped DeCesare battle his way to the top of the mountain in and out of the classroom, and a mindset that he’s pushing to his teammates with two weeks to go in the season.  As Mooney looks to find their place in Week 11, Tommy DeCesare is already raising the State Championship Banner in his mind.

This week our Steve Leslie caught up with DeCesare in our newest edition of Cardinal Mooney Player Profile: TOMMY BOY.

THERE’S A NEW CHERIFF IN TOWN

Leadership is influence, and influence is leadership.

For Cardinal Mooney Senior Cheriff Jamison, he’s leading by example.  Taking each practice, each game, and even each snap one at a time.  Jamison has made his impact on the end of the line playing defensive end on defense, and tight end on offense.  A game changer on and off the field, Jamison hopes to take flight with the rest of the Cardinals this week against the Irish of Ursuline.  We caught up with him just prior to the Harding game last week and our Steve Leslie chats him up in this week’s Cardinal Mooney Player Profile: THERE’S A NEW CHERIFF IN TOWN

CARDINAL MOONEY FOOTBALL COACH’S CORNER WITH PJ FECKO (EP 7)

If you’ve ever been inside the gymnasium at Cardinal Mooney, it serves as a constant reminder of rich winning tradition everywhere you look.  Quite literally, the walls are blanketed in championship banners from pillar to post.

The 2018 Cardinals have been tasked with adding to those walls under one of the toughest schedules in the state of Ohio.  They have yet to blink.  Sure- they want to win, but humble warriors in defeat are the most dangerous of all.

Head Coach PJ Fecko sits down with our Steve Leslie to discuss the opportunities ahead for the Cards in this week’s Cardinal Mooney Coach’s Corner!

HEART’S ON FIRE!

What’s in a name?  Well, for Cardinal Mooney Senior Anthony Fire- a lot.

Fire’s name is listed next to #81 in your football program.

Fire’s name is synonymous with Cardinal Mooney Athletics.

Fire’s name is on the mind of every opposing coach on Friday night.

Most of all, though, Fire’s name is one that everybody in the Valley should take note of because he’s doing big things.

Anthony Fire is one of the top tight ends, and defensive ends in the area, and continues to prove it every down.  The Cardinals will strap up for Louisville this Friday, and Fire will once again be helping the Cards fly high toward Week 11.

YSN General Manager, Steve Leslie sat down with Fire to discuss his rich heritage at Mooney, as well as what this season means to him.  This week’s Cardinal Mooney Player Profile is Anthony Fire- HEART’S ON FIRE!
