NEVER A DOUBTING TOMAS

PEPPER PIKE, OH- In a recent episode of the YSN podcast, Orange High School swimmer Tomas Cakulev captivated listeners as he shared his inspiring story. From his early introduction to the sport to his unwavering dedication, Cakulev’s journey in swimming is one of triumph over adversity.

At the young age of ten, Cakulev was introduced to swimming by a friend who invited him to a practice at a local club. It was during these early experiences that Cakulev discovered the importance of bonding with teammates, both in and out of the pool. The camaraderie and competition formed the foundation of his love for the sport and ignited a competitive fire within him.

Cakulev’s competitive nature extends beyond the pool, as he strives for excellence in all aspects of his life. Whether it be academics or personal growth, his drive to compete and improve is ever-present. He finds motivation in beating his own records during practice, pushing himself to shave off precious seconds and continuously bettering his performance.

Despite encountering obstacles along the way, Cakulev’s determination remained unshaken. From challenging classes to inconsistent coaching, he navigated through adversity both in and out of the pool. These obstacles taught him the value of perseverance and instilled in him a sense of resilience that has carried him through his swimming career.

Throughout his competitive journey, Cakulev has developed a set of rituals to stay motivated before, during, and after events. He curates a playlist filled with his favorite songs, preferring a balanced tempo to keep himself focused yet not overly hyped. Before races, he dons his headphones, immersing himself in his own world while ensuring he stays warm to maintain peak performance. After races, Cakulev exemplifies great sportsmanship by congratulating his fellow swimmers and seeking feedback from his coach to identify areas for improvement.

Cakulev’s role models both inside and outside the pool include professional swimmers who have achieved great success. However, he also draws inspiration from his parents and his younger brother, who is making waves in his own swimming career. Their support and guidance have been instrumental in his development as an athlete.

One quote that resonates deeply with Cakulev is “if it is to be, it is up to me.” This motto serves as a reminder that he holds the power to shape his own destiny. It fuels his determination to push himself during practice, knowing that his hard work and dedication will lead to achieving his goals.

As a senior at Orange High School, Cakulev leaves a lasting impact on the swimming community, both as a talented athlete and a sportsman. His story serves as an inspiration to all aspiring swimmers, demonstrating the power of perseverance, camaraderie, and self-belief.

YSN TITANS UP COVERAGE

NEW WILMINGTON, PA- One of the most historic colleges in Western Pennsylvania will be receiving a boost in sports coverage this year. Westminster College and Your Sports Network will work together to provide further coverage through Westminster Cable Network (WCN) Titan Radio, and YSNLive.com.

“I owe much of what I do, and who I am to my time at Westminster College.  My education was highlighted with the hands on experiences in and out of the classroom, but greater than that, the support of the professors, peers, and alumni made the difference in who I believed I could be,” said YSN Founder and CEO DJ Yokley.

Yokley, who is a 2007 Graduate of WC was a beneficiary of the award-winning broadcasting communications track during his time, and sees the pairing of his network and Westminster’s programs as a chance to bolster coverage and experience for all.  “This isn’t just a feel-good project, we’re on a mission together to provide increased coverage for student-athletes, real-world opportunities for student workers, and to feature opportunities to receive a world-class education on a campus that is not far from the majority of our viewers,” added Yokley.

WCN and Titan Radio have been the home for Titan Sports for decades, in addition to Westminster athletic events, the programming includes high school football on Friday night, as well as Coach’s interviews, player interviews, and fully detailed news programming for the the campus and those in Lawrence County.  “DJ’s success and what he has built is inspirational on so many fronts. He and I share a passion for local sports, and partnering with the YSN brand provides valuable visibility and recognition for the great work our students are doing” said Technical Operations Manager of WCN and Titan Radio, Gary Swanson.  “DJ’s passion, professionalism, and creativity is infectious. Having both him and the YSN team available as a resource and outlet for our broadcast students provides concrete examples of the things we illustrate in the classroom and lab. The expanded exposure across Ohio will be a huge benefit to our students, athletes, and programs. It provides them with professional networking, experience and an open stage to showcase the spectacular broadcasting opportunities and the incredible D-3 athletics environment available here at Westminster.”

Dr. David Barner is a featured leader in the classroom, but double was the voice of the Titans on WWNW for over 30 years.”Partnering with YSN opens up a whole new audience for Titan athletics in Northeast Ohio” said Barner.  “Students at Westminster will be exposed to new streaming technologies while gaining access to and support from DJ Yokley, a Westminster alum who is a leader in operating a streaming network.”
The audio stream will be available at titanradiolive.com, and ysnlive.com/westminster.

2023 YSN SOFTBALL ALL-STAR GAME ROSTERS RELEASED

EAST PALESTINE, OH- It’s once again time for the annual exclamation point and the end of an incredible sports school year, and that can only mean one thing: The YSN Softball All-Star Game.

Some of the area’s brightest stars will shine again at Youngstown State University on Wednesday evening at 7pm to showcase their talents and signature smiles.  Registration begins at 5pm, with the first pitch slated shortly after 7.

Leading the Stars will be the State Champion Coach from Division 1, Austintown Fitch, Steve Ward.  For the Stripes, it will be one of the area’s winningest coaches over the past decade, South Range’s Jeff DeRose.

Both teams are loaded with talent, and the game promises to be another great event, and an opportunity to raise awareness and funds for Fellowship of Christian Athletes – Steel Valley, while promoting the sport of softball.

Throwing out this year’s first pitch will be recent South Range graduate, Jamie Feren.  Feren was a member of the Raider Softball Team all four years, and during a game late in the season her senior campaign suffered a broken leg that ended her season, and essentially her career.  Feren was selected to the All-YSN Team in 2023 for her work at second base.

YSN HEADQUARTERS TO BE REMOTE UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE

EAST PALESTINE, OH- The brick-and-mortar “Headquarters” of Your Sports Network (YSN) based in East Palestine has been shut down until further notice following the train derailment on February 3, 2023.

After a mandatory evacuation within the 1-mile radius of the impact zone, YSN Headquarters along with several businesses and hundreds of homes fell into that order.

Upon lifting the evacuation order following the press conference on February 8, residents were given the option to return to their homes, and businesses could also return at their convenience.

“We returned home on Wednesday evening after the Chief, and Governor had lifted the evacuation, but when I tried to return to HQ (YSN) on Thursday, there was an odor that was faint outside the building and packed quite a punch as soon as you stepped foot inside,” said YSN Founder and CEO, DJ Yokley.

“At this time, we’re opting to shut down our headquarters temporarily to our team and the general public until we can have the air quality monitored, as well as water and several other aspects.  Much like the school and town officials have indicated- the safety of our people come first, and if we can’t deliver a safe environment to work- we’re fortunate enough through technology, that we’ll work remotely.”

While Yokley says streams and shows may look slightly different, the show must go on.

“Our team is committed to continuing to provide the area’s best sports coverage, and while our fans might have to be a little patient for some aspects- our hope is to keep the volume of games each evening at the frequency players, coaches, and fans have grown accustomed to over the years.  I believe our persistence will shine through this process.”

Fans have asked questions about the Baird Brothers Big Dogs of the Valley contest, and if there will be other interruptions due to the effects of the evacuation.  “It put a slight delay on this particular week, but I’m confident we’ll be able to promote the athletes in a timely fashion, perhaps just a day or two pushed back from what is our ‘normal’ timeframe,” added Yokley.

YSN is currently located on East Taggart Street in East Palestine.

ATHLETIX TO PARTNER WITH YSN

COLUMBIANA, OH- “Stream City” will have a new address in 2024.

Plans were announced yesterday between Athletix and Your Sports Network to partner together to reside on the same campus in the next 14 months.  Currently centralized in East Palestine until January 2024, YSN has made its headquarters since its first day of business in 2017 in a plaza just off the main drag in Bulldog Country.

“To be able to start any business in my hometown was a dream come true, but to draw attention, and have student-athletes, announcers, coaches, and leaders visit East Palestine over the last 5 years has been surreal,” said YSN Founder and CEO, DJ Yokley.

The Broadcast/Streaming company will funnel into the brand-new Athletix facility that boasts two top-tier structures that are equipped with the area’s best technology for athletes of all skill levels, two full-size basketball courts, an entire field of athletic turf, TopGolf Swing Suites, a batting/pitching cage, workout facilities, interactive study rooms, as well as a fully-engaged workout facility.

“This partnership is a huge win for athletes in the area with opportunities to train and compete in our state-of-the-art facilities and gain tremendous opportunities for exposure through the impressive reach of YSN,” said Athletix co-founder, Sean Wardle.  “YSN and Athletix create an amazing team that will comet together with the common goal of providing opportunities to athletes in the Mahoning Valley and beyond,” added Wardle.

With the partnership, YSN plans to add to its coverage of high school sports with leagues that occur at Athletix through live streaming, and broadcasting championship-caliber events at the facility.  “It’ll have the same look and feel as what our fans are accustomed to, but being able to focus on youth and adult leagues gives both Athletix and YSN a new demographic, and new opportunities that cannot be found anywhere else in the country.”

The Network will feature chosen tournaments and leagues to be covered via streaming, and stories/pictures for the website that will include things such as pickleball, softball, basketball, hitting leagues, golf leagues, and other sports that happen in the facility.  “The opportunities are limitless.  The growth that Columbiana has seen is remarkable, and Athletix will be a cornerstone in even more growth ahead. To be able to team up with a family cut from the same cloth, and share the same vision and goals will make both companies stronger on every front, and like always, we’ll do things ‘brick by brick’,” said Yokley.

Future plans for the partnership also include a remote studio within the facility alongside “The Home Plate” concession area, as well as a full studio and office build that will house shows such as “Audible Call” “Running Point” and “Power Hour” each weekday.  Athletes and coaches will also be interviewed at the Athletix in each respective studio space for Player Profiles and Coach’s Corners.
