THE FALLS STANDS UP TALL
NEWTON FALLS OH- Nick Reynolds was dealing Friday, striking out 10 and leading Newton Falls to a 13-0 rout over East.
Reynolds tossed five shutout innings, giving up just two hits and walking four, keeping East off balance all day.
At the plate, Leland Vargo couldn’t miss, going 3-for-3 with a triple and two singles. Vargo kicked off the scoring with a knock to center in the first, and Newton Falls poured it on from there. Michael Bennett grounded out to plate a run, Hunter Persin roped a single down the line to drive one in, and Tyler Stinson followed with another RBI knock.
The Tigers kept it rolling in the second when Vargo punched another RBI single and Trevor Ruscoe grounded out to bring home another.
In the third, Newton Falls opened the floodgates. Stinson knocked a single down the right field line, Ethan Powell lifted a sac fly, Cameron Huff drove one up the middle, Vargo smashed a triple, and Ruscoe added another RBI single to make it a runaway.
Francisco Rodriguez Santos took the loss for East, going three innings and giving up 12 runs (10 earned) on 11 hits.
Newton Falls racked up 12 hits in the win. Powell, Stinson, and Huff each had multi-hit days. The Tigers also played clean defense, not committing a single error, with Powell leading the way with 12 chances in the field.
For East, Yadiel Lopez and Abi Torres each picked up a hit, but the offense couldn’t get anything sustained against Reynolds. Next up, Newton Falls heads to Garfield on Monday.
