THE GREEN MACHINE MAKES IT THROUGH SALEM

Beloit OH- West Branch had won two straight against their rival Salem coming into Saturday night’s game. They were able to make it three straight coming away with a 48-38 victory over Ron Johnson’s Salem Quakers. With the win the Warriors clinched the EBC title outright, and also clinched the top seed in division 4 region 13.

 

West Branch came out red hot scoring right out of the gate when running back boston Mulinix scored on a 3 yd rushing touchdown. The warriors went for the 2 point conversion and it was successful making the score 8-0. Salem drove right down the field, but they were only able to muster 3 points. Still in the first quarter, Christian Martig caught a 55 yd bomb from Dru Deshields making the score 14-3.

 

Salem needed a big touchdown to start the second quarter and Quarterback Jackson Johnson answered the call hooking up with Ross Davidson for a 12 yd touchdown. Once again, Salem scored and took their first lead of the game 17-14. The game went back in forth as West Branch had a 28-24 lead at the half.

 

West Branch and Salem continued to trade off points as neither defense could get a stop. Salem had the lead 38-35 with seven minutes remaining in the 4th quarter and the Warriors needed to answer. Dru Deshields led the warriors right down the field for a touchdown. Warrior Defensive end Hudson Brink sealed the game with an interception on a tipped ball by Mitch Coffee. West Branch scored again when Dru DeShields ran it in making the final score 48-38.

 

West Branch will play host to Mogadore Field in the first round of the playoffs, while 10 seeded Salem will travel to Canton South. Dru Deshields now holds the school record for passing yards (6,782), touchdowns (82) and completions with (483)
