TIGERS ALL SMILES AFTER STRESSFUL VICTORY

ORWELL OH- It was not a stress free night at all for Springfield as they battled Southern for another trip to the district championship.  Southern showed zero fear against the top seeded Tigers and controlled much of the game.  They outscored Springfield 16-4 in the second quarter to lead 21-14 at the half. That lead was sustained through the third, and held for a portion of the final frame. But in what felt like a blink of an eye, the Tigers took a 29-20 deficit and eventually led 32-31.  They made huge plays down the stretch to survive their battle with Southern 35-31.

Jacey Mullen would not be denied a trip to the title game as she led the way with a great effort putting in 20 points.  Mariana Tuscano chipped in 7 points on the night to help out.

Southern was led by their leading scorer Ashley Shroades who scored 14 points for the Indians. Olivia Kerns was also in double figures for Southern with 12 points. She also added a dominant defensive performance in the paint.

Springfield moves on to the Grand Valley District Championship on Saturday. They will match up against Cornerstone Christian. Tip off from Grand Valley is set for 7:00.
