TIGERS CANT CATCH A BREAK
STRUTHERS OH- Springfield took a tough 7-2 loss against the Dalton on Tuesday in the district semifinals.
The Bulldogs kicked things off right in the first inning when Talan Greegor worked a walk with the bases juiced, putting the first run on the board. They kept the momentum going with Brady Hignight grounding out to push another run across in the second, making it 2-0. By the third, Alex Hess singled to stretch their lead to 3-0.
Seth Wyckoff was on fire for the Bulldogs, owning the mound with a three-hitter across seven innings while racking up an impressive 16 strikeouts and giving up just two runs. On the other side, Springfield’s Blake Jeffries came in for five innings of relief, where he gave up five hits and four runs, adding three strikeouts to his effort. Kolten Ruark started for the Tigers but had a brief outing, lasting just one inning and allowing two runs, shouldering the loss.
Despite the tough game, Ruark and Jeffries did manage to contribute offensively, driving in a run apiece. Alec Fusco, Cooper Ensley, and Jeffries each managed to pick up a hit for Springfield.
Dalton had a solid day at the plate. Hess, Cade Mullet, and Will Carmichael each bagged a couple of hits. Hess and Hignight contributed two RBIs each, helping to cement the Bulldogs’ lead. Greegor was a constant threat, drawing three walks and setting the tone for Dalton’s patient approach at the plate, which totaled six walks. They also showed off their speed, swiping four bases during the game.
With this loss in the district semifinals, Springfield ends their season with a record of 14-11.
